Obituary - Robert Dunlap R.D. Wilson

R.D. Wilson, age 86 years, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital, Clinton, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at the Vansant-Mills Chapel, Clinton. 

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Englewood Cemetery, Clinton, Missouri. Fond memories and condolences can be left online at www.vansant-millsfuneralhome.com.

Robert Dunlap "R.D." Wilson was born September 29, 1931 in Montrose, Missouri the son of James and Bonnie (Dunlap) Wilson. He was an US Army Veteran having served time in Korea. He worked as a carpenter and was a member of Union #777 in Harrisonville, Missouri.

Services have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton, Missouri.

Brenda L. Hughes, age 66 years, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2018 at her home in Adrian, Missouri.

She is survived by her husband, Edward of the home.

Elisha Scott Phillips of rural Drexel, received his commission as 2nd Lt., United States Air Force.

Upon graduation from the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs Colorado, in May 2018, with his parents, Scott and Dawnita Philips of Drexel.

He is currently assigned to Randolph AFB, San Antonio, TX for training. Way to go Elisha!





Two injured after accident in Vernon County

On 9/24/18 around 9:25am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County responded to a two vehicle accident on US 54 Highway around 5 miles west of El Dorado Springs, Missouri.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2000 Acura Integra driven by 19 year old Benjamin L. Talbert of El Dorado Springs, Missouri struck the rear of the 2011 Toyota Scion driven by 24 year old Tiffany N. Carriker of El Dorado Springs, Missouri.

Tiffany N. Carriker along with a passenger in her vehicle 25 year old Aaron M. Robles of El Dorado Springs, Missouri both sustained minor injures in this accident and both were transported by ambulance to Cedar County Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Both vehicles sustained extensive damages and the Toyota was removed from the scene by Garwood's Wrecker Service of Nevada, Missouri.

Clinton man arrested for shooting into Warsaw Bar

On 09/21/2018 Robert P. Schapeler 68, of Clinton MO was arrested at his residence after an altercation at the Hidden Lakes Restaurant and Bar in rural Warsaw. 

At approximately 2230 hours, deputies responded to the business at the request of the owner for threats received. The owner stated a man, later identified as Schapeler, was upset over a pool game and claimed he was going to return to the business and kill everyone.

Schapeler did return to the business at 2318 hours with a shotgun, firing several rounds into vehicles and the building. One patron outside the building who witnessed the shooting, returned fire, shooting one round at the suspects vehicle. 

No persons were injured during the shooting and Schapeler was taken into custody in Henry County without incident. Henry County Deputies armed with a search warrant were able to recover Schapeler’s vehicle, the shotgun with buckshot and a rifle. 

Charges were files for ARMED CRIMINAL ACTION, ASSAULT 1ST DEGREE, UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF A WEAPON AND PROPERTY DAMAGE 1ST DEGREE. 

Mr. Schapeler is being held in the Benton County Jail in lieu of a $200,000 bond
