Obituary - Maci Raylee Spiva

Maci Raylee Spiva, 3 month old infant, Nevada, MO, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2018. Maci was born on June 23, 2018 in Nevada to Jacob Max Spiva and Micah Jean Marbough.

In addition to her parents Maci is survived by grandparents, Tyler & Heather Hackleman, El Dorado Springs, MO, Joy Marbough, Nevada and Michael and Trudy Marbough, Billings, MO; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 1, 2018 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Shane Munn officiating. Interment will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery, Milo, MO.

Those who wish may contribute to a fund for the family in care of Ferry Funeral Home.


Butler woman injured in rollover accident near Dunlap's Corner

On 9/28/18 around 1:30pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on CR NW 2002 just east of Missouri 52 West Highway near Dunlap's Corner.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2003 Jeep Liberty driven by 54 year old Brenda D. Head of Butler, Missouri over corrected, traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned.

Brenda D. Head sustained minor injuries in this accident and she was transported by Bates County EMS to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment. 

The vehicle was removed from the scene by Douty's Tow.

Update: North Carolina man killed in Bates County Crash

On 9/28/18 around 9:55am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies, Bates County EMS, Butler and Adrian Fire Department responded to a two vehicle accident in the southbound lane of I-49 at mile marker 134.6 just north of TT Highway.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when north bound 1995 Isuzu driven by 31 year old Ricky N. Robertson of Carthage, Missouri suffered a equipment failure in the front tire and lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway and crossed the median and struck the 2017 Kenworth driven by 62 year old Timothy L. Chambers of Braymer, Missouri on the drivers side of both towed units.

A occupant in Mr. Robertson's vehicle 39 year old Nicholas R. Zerpa of Charlotte, North Carolina was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Bates County Coroner Greg Mullinax at 10:15pm.

Ricky N. Robertson sustained serious injuries in this accident and he was transported by ambulance to Bates County Memorial Hospital then later to Research Hospital Main in Kansas City, Missouri for treatment.

The highway was closed for several hours as crews worked to clean up this mess. All units were removed from the scene by J's Southland Tow.

From the Bates County Sheriff's Office

On 9/28/18 at approximately 1050 am the Sheriffs Office responded to an accident on southbound I-49 approximately 2 miles south of Passaic. 

The accident was a two vehicle accident that caused the need to shut the highway down. This was a fatal accident. The Sheriffs Office turned the scene over to the Missouri State Highway Patrol to investigate. 

Additional agencies have assisted to include Adrian Pd, Butler Pd, Adrian Fire Department, Butler Fire Department and Missouri Department of transportation. 

The interstate remains shut down and traffic is being rerouted from I49 through Passaic through Butler. We appreciate everyone’s patience while they work to reopen the highway.


Obituary - Arvella “A.J.” McCombs

Arvella “A.J.” McCombs, 83 of Butler, Missouri passed away September 28, 2018 at home surrounded by family. Cremation, with private family memorial services at a later date.

Arvella June McCombs was born June 22, 1935 in Waterloo, Iowa to Ewald and Rosetta Struck.

She was united in marriage to John Brinyark III. After his passing, A.J. was united in marriage to Rollin E. “Samm” McCombs. Together they would enjoy life, traveling, visiting friends and family, and most all they enjoyed making toys to give away to children.

A.J. was preceded in death by her parents, first husband John Brinyark III, sons Tony LeRoy Brinyark, Johnny Brinyark, and Marvin Brinyark. She is survived by her husband Rollin “Samm” McCombs of Butler, MO., daughter Brenda Dotson and husband Ed of North Carolina, daughter Linda Brinyark and partner Wanda Lindsey of Knoxville, TN., son James Brinyark and wife Terry of Maynardville, TN., sister Betty Lou Ackerman of Waterloo, IA., sister Shirley Kappel of Waterloo, IA., a brother Rick Ackerman and wife Cheryl of Waterloo, IA., along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members. A.J. was dearly loved by her family and friends and will be forever missed.



Motor Vehicle accident on 52 west near Dunlap's Corner

The Butler Fire Department, Amoret Fire Department along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies are in route to a one vehicle accident on Missouri 52 Highway at Dunlap's Corner near Amoret at this time.
