CVS Pharmacy Robbed in Belton

On 9-28-18 at around 4:30AM, Belton Police Officers were dispatched to the CVS Pharmacy at 409 E North in Belton on a report of a robbery in progress. Shortly after the officers arrived, two subjects exited the business carrying duffel bags. These subjects both ran south from the business.

The subject was taken into custody as he tried to run around a fence line and a Belton officer blocked his path with his patrol car. That subject was taken into custody without further incident. The second subject fled on foot into the neighborhood to the south and was not located. That subject is described as a young black male wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and grey sweat pants.

A Belton police officer has been treated and released at a local hospital for minor injuries sustained in a vehicle accident while blocking the path of the subject who was taken into custody. No civilians were injured in the robbery.

Reference the robbery at CVS in Belton on Friday Dorian Carruthers 17 yrs old from Indianapolis, Indiana has been charged with 1st degree robbery, 2 counts of kidnapping, 2 counts of possession of a controlled substance and felony fleeing. He is being held on a bond of $500,000 cash only.

Obituary - Lois L. Brownsberger

Lois L. Brownsberger, age 95, of Clinton, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Truman Lake Manor, Lowry City, MO.

Lois was born September 15, 1923 to Archie L. and Lura ‘Piepmeier’ Muchmore of Appleton, City, MO. After high school she attended Central Missouri State College, now University of Central Missouri, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Lois married Joseph Henry Brownsberger on March 8, 1945 in New York City, New York while Joe was in the Navy during WWII. In 1946, they returned to Appleton City where together they owned and operated a retail clothing business for many years. Lois was a member of the Appleton City P.E.O and the Appleton City Community Club where she and Joe worked hand in hand to greatly benefit the Appleton City community. Except for college and the time that Joe was in the Navy, Lois lived her entire life in Appleton City until moving to Clinton in 2005 where she was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the Lorna Kemper Club.

Lois and Joe enjoyed traveling in their motorhome during retirement. Lois especially enjoyed her home, both in Appleton City and after moving to Clinton, and was very proud of being married for 65 years before Joe’s passing in 2010.

Survivors include a son, Michael (Gail) Brownsberger of Monett, MO; two daughters, Donna (David) Zajonc of Bainbridge Island, Washington and Diane (Ed) Hannah of Clinton, MO; nine grandchildren, Chris, Kelly & Amanda, Lindsey & Ben, McKenzie & Billy, Morgan, Carson, Eric, Mark and Evan; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother, C.E. Muchmore.

A Rosary Service will be conducted at 6:30 PM on Monday, October 1, 2018 at Consalus Funeral Home, with visitation to follow until 8:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Appleton City Cemetery, Appleton City, MO.

The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to either Twin Lakes Hospice or Holy Rosary Catholic Church and left in care of Consalus Funeral Home, 209 S. 2nd St., Clinton, MO 64735.

Ivan S. Meacham, age 82, of Lowry City, MO passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Truman Lake Manor, Lowry City, MO.

The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 7:30 PM on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Consalus Funeral Home. A funeral service is scheduled at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 5, 2018, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Landaker Cemetery, Lowry City, MO.

Obituary - Anita Bridges

Anita Bridges, 73, Harrisonville, Missouri was born September 15, 1945 to George and Ora E. "Mickey" (Hornbeck) King in Childress, Texas. She departed this life on Friday, September 28, 2018.

Anita eloped with the love of her life, David L. Bridges, on November 17, 1962. He preceded her in death earlier this month.

Anita enjoyed a long career with the US Government (IRS and Dept. of Defense) as a systems analyst. She was also a dedicated cheerleader for her children and grandchildren.

Anita is survived by 2 daughters, Angel Bridges-Deaver and husband Michael, Lee's Summit, Missouri and Shelly Evans and husband Brent, Kansas City, Missouri; 5 grandchildren, Megan, Briana, Kristopher, Jacqueline and Kayla; 3 great-grandchildren and 1 on the way; a sister-by-choice, Marilyn Gussman and husband Chris.

Cremation with no services scheduled at this time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial to the KU Cancer Center.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Keith Beasley, 82, of Urich, Missouri, departed this life, Friday, September 28, 2018, at his home.

2 men dead after being struck by vehicle in Belton

On 9-28-18 at approximately 8:20 PM, Belton Police officers responded to Peculiar Dr. between Cunningham Industrial Pkwy. and Cambridge Rd.on pedestrians struck by a vehicle. 

The officers located two male parties who were deceased at the scene. 

The driver of the striking vehicle has been contacted and the vehicle has been located. 

The identities of the pedestrians is not being released at this time and the investigation is ongoing.

Lily's House received $25,000 State Farm Grant

Kelly Davidson of State Farm in Butler presented Lily's House nonprofit of Adrian a $25,000 check this evening.

Lily's House a shelter for women and children serving Bates County won the $25,000 grant from State Farm through the Neighborhood Assist Program.

The grant will go to help Lily's House purchase a vehicle to provide transportation for their clients.
