Obituary - James Allen Hackney

James Allen Hackney, 73, Nevada, MO passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2018 at Medicalodges of Nevada. Jim was born February 23, 1945 in Nevada to Joseph A. and Letha Irene (Roberts) Hackney. He was united in marriage to Melanie L. Brackett on October 12, 1990 in Miami, OK and she survives of the home.

Jim grew up in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School. Following high school Jim enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. He returned to Nevada where he worked his whole life as custodian for Nevada R-5 School District retiring in 2003. Jim was an honorary member of the Qua Paw Indian Tribe. He was instrumental along with Ed Woodington in organizing local Pow Wows held in Nevada. Jim was a member of the American Legion in Nevada.

In addition to his wife Melanie, survivors include one brother, Donald Timbers, Sedalia, MO; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Louise Stacey, and Lucille Smith; one brother, Everett Timbers.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Newton Burial Park in Nevada. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Monday evening at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested in his memory to the American Legion in c/o Ferry Funeral Home.

Snowy Weekend Ahead



The potential for a winter storm this Thanksgiving weekend is increasing. The where, when, and how much is still very uncertain, but everyone planning to travel through the region between Saturday night and Sunday night should at least plan for inclement weather.

Timing for rain on Friday looks like mid to late morning through mid afternoon with the evening drying out.

Obituary - Danny Gerald Richmond

Danny Gerald Richmond, 59, Adrian, MO, died Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at his home. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Novemer 24, 2018 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian with burial in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian. 

Visitation will be 7:00-9:00 p.m. Friday, November 23 at Atkinson Funeral Home, Adrian. Memorial contributions to the Danny Richmond Memorial Fund.

From the Bates County Sheriff's Office

On 11/21/18, the Bates County Deputies were dispatch to Casey’s in Adrian in reference to a car that was stolen. The female went inside of Casey’s and left her vehicle running outside. When she return the vehicle was gone. The vehicle is described as a 2011 Chevy Malibu 4 door silver or grey in color with Missouri tag of MR1D9X.

Later on this same day the Sheriff’ Office received a report of another vehicle taken from a residence south of Drexel. The vehicle is described as a white 1996 Honda Accord with black duct tape on the hood with a possible window sticker in the back window with Missouri tag of FP9U3M.
