FIREFIGHTER / PARAMEDIC
Full – Time
POSITION SUMMARY: Harrisonville, Missouri is a 3rd class city located 30 miles south of Kansas City, Missouri with a population of approximately 10,000. Harrisonville Emergency Services is a department with up to date equipment with state of the art EMS equipment. Currently employee’s 21 full time personnel including command staff that performs the challenging work of emergency medical care, fire suppression, fire prevention and rescue. The fire department operates a 24 hour Modified Berkley Schedule. The department operates one ALS engine, and two fully staffed ALS ambulances from one station.
JOB RESPONSIBILTIES
• Responds to emergency situations and incident to suppress fires, affect rescues/extrications, participated in searches, mitigate hazardous materials and perform other duties as assigned and capable.
• Operate firefighting tools, aerial equipment, emergency medical equipment, extrication and rescue equipment and a variety of related tools and vehicles.
• Provide basic and advanced life support and emergency medical care.
• Participates in on-going technical and physical training to maintain certifications.
• Cleans and performs routine maintenance and minor repairs to department facilities.
• Participates in fire prevention and safety education/promotional events. Conducts station tours and gives presentations and demonstrates the use of the fire suppression and safety equipment.
• Assists in documenting incident and provides incident information to appropriate agencies and supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The city will send selected individuals to Firefighter I & II Training if necessary.
Required Qualifications:
• Possession of a valid state driver’s license
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Paramedic Certification
Preferred Qualifications:
• Vocational/technical training in firefighting and emergency medical treatment with two years of firefighting and paramedic experience or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Possession of EMT-P certification, Firefighter I & II (preferred), hazardous materials operation, advanced life support, and basic life support certifications (ACLS, PALS, BTLS, CPR-Health Care Provider).
PAY starts at $38,670.00 (based on experience). Benefit package includes health, dental, vision, and life insurance; Missouri LAGERs pension, discounted membership to the City’s Community Center, tuition assistance program, and employee wellness program.

Obituary - Mark Lynn McDaniel

Mark Lynn McDaniel
Mark Lynn McDaniel, age 51, a resident of Ft. Scott, Kansas, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2018, at his home. He was born December 28, 1966, in Ft. Scott, the son of Donald Lee McDaniel and Barbara Sue Wolfe McDaniel. He graduated from the Ft. Scott High School and later completed welding and truck driving courses at Ft. Scott Community College. He operated his own mechanic shop. He was an avid stockcar racer and fan. He used his mechanical abilities to further his own racing career and was always willing to help his friends as well. He married Tammy Peacock on July 28, 2000, at Ft. Scott. 

Survivors include his wife, Tammy, and his children, Derek Miner, of Eldorado Springs, Missouri, Brittani Ledbetter and Cody McDaniel, both of Springfield, Missouri and Kimberly Skaggs and Taylor Shook, both of Ft. Scott and nine grandchildren. Also surviving is his father, Don McDaniel, of Ft. Scott; three brothers, Randall McDaniel, of Carthage, Missouri, Rick McDaniel, of Ft. Scott and Ron McDaniel, of Pittsburg, Kansas and three sisters, Patricia Flanigan, of Carthage, and Jeanise Malone and Tanya Lockwood, both of Ft. Scott. He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara McDaniel.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 29th at the Evergreen Cemetery. Family and friends may meet at the Cheney Witt Chapel prior to leaving for the cemetery at 12:45 P.M. Memorials are suggested to the Mark McDaniel Memorial Fund and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Ft. Scott, KS 66701. Butler woman injured in Vernon County rollover accident

On 12/26/18 around 11:16pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County along with Vernon County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on I-49 around 5 miles south of Rich Hill.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 30 year old Holly A. Craft of Butler, Missouri lost control on the wet pavement and overturned.

Holly A. Craft sustained minor injuries in this accident and she was transported by ambulance to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by Douty's Tow of Butler, Missouri.

Butler man arrested after pulling gun on minor

Mark A. Brown 
On 12/26/18 around 6:21pm the Butler Police Department arrested 63 year old Mark A. Brown (1/30/55) of Butler, Missouri.

Mr. Brown was arrested after a incident occurred where he allegedly pulled a fire arm on a juvenile male.

Mark A. Brown was charged with 1.) Endangering the Welfare of a Child (1st Degree Creating a Substantial Risk).

Mr. Brown was booked into the Bates County Jail in Butler and placed on a $25,000 Cash/Surety bond.

St. Clair County Sheriff's Office seeking public assistance

The St. Clair County Sheriff's Office is looking for some help. They are persons of interest in an early morning burglary in the Lowry City area.

On 12/22/18, at approximately 11 p.m., Dustin G. Mahan, 29, was arrested on Brewster Ave after a foot chase. Witnesses state Mahan was observed removing objects from a building on Sunnyside road. 

The owner of the property arrived home to see a tractor in her driveway, which was later determined stolen, and Mahan walking from behind her home. Mahan has a long record of drug arrest, theft, and fleeing from law enforcement. He is currently being held in the Benton County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond for burglary 2nd persistent offender, stealing 4th or subsequent offense, tampering 1st degree(motor vehicle) persistent offender and resisting detention persistent offender.

In this case, we were able to apprehend the suspect due to neighbors helping neighbors and citizens willing to step up and get involved. Please stay vigilant and be aware of your surroundings. Watch out for your neighbors and report suspicious activity. Purchase a video system to stand guard and record criminal activity for prosecution. There are many excellent low cost systems on the market.

Remember to record all of your serial numbers on your weapons, electronics and tools. Take photos of your valuables! If your property does not have one, make up your own and stamp or etch it on an inconspicuous area. Store you photos, serial numbers and identifying marks in a good quality, bolted down safe or bank deposit box. Without having this information to give to law enforcement, you have about a zero chance of recovering your property and getting a conviction.

Pawn shops are required to record and disclose serial numbers for investigators to search when looking for stolen items. These serial numbers are also reported to a nationwide database which are checked by all agencies when they come across items during enforcement actions. Obituary - Martha Lee York Carmichael

Martha Lee York Carmichael, 89, of Nevada, MO passed away December 26, at her home in Nevada, MO. She was surrounded by her family. She was born on February 22, 1929 in Osawatomie, KS to George A. and Marjorie O. Patterson York. She was married to her high school sweetheart, John Lee Carmichael, on February 24, 1951 in Osawatomie, KS.

Martha grew up in Osawatomie and attended school there. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Vocational Home Economics from Pittsburg State Teachers College in 1951.

She taught Home Economics in Mound City, Kansas. She taught and was the Teacher in Charge at the State School for the Severely Handicapped in Nevada, MO.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and sang in the choir for many years. She was a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association and a member of Lares Club, the Nevada Country Club and was a 60+ year member of Chapter KK of the PEO Sisterhood.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, James York, and a sister, Mary Louise Roberts.

She is survived by a brother George A. York and wife Pandy, of Ft. Worth, TX.; Two sons, John Carmichael and wife, Christy of Filer, ID and Bob Carmichael and wife, Julie, Lenexa, KS; one daughter, Susan Richardson and husband, Ron, of Cassville, MO; 4 grandchildren; Ryan and Hannah Carmichael, Lenexa, KS; Luke Canfield and Jenelle, Eugene, OR; Sam Canfield and Michelle, Madison, WI; 2 step-grandchildren; Tara Richardson of Columbia, MO and Matt Richardson Springfield, MO; 4 great grandchildren and 2 step-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Martha will be cremated and her ashes interred at the York Family Plot in Osawatomie, KS. Services will be held at 1:00 Saturday, December 29 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, MO.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Nevada Senior Center or a charity of your choosing in c/o Ferry Funeral Home.
