Wanted fugitive arrested after police pursuit from Kansas ends in Missouri


Cass County Sheriff’s Deputies assisted the Miami County Sheriff’s Office on Monday to capture a wanted fugitive. Miami County authorities attempted to stop vehicle that fled into Missouri. Cass County Deputies took over the pursuit as it traveled through Cass County. 

Peculiar and Belton Police Departments assisted with deploying tire deflation devices on S. St. Rt. YY west of Peculiar and on Peculiar Drive south of Belton.

A deputy with Cass County eventually stopped the vehicle on I-49 near E. 163rd street. Two subjects were taken into custody without injury. Deputies recovered a firearm and suspected narcotics.

The driver of the vehicle, Jonathan M. Smith, 30, Grandview, MO was arrested on several warrants:

Failure to Appear for Forgery - Jackson County - $25,0000
Probation Violation - Platte County - $13,000
Obstruct Domes. Viol Order Protection - Grandview PD - $4500 Transport Forged Forgery - Kansas City, KS - $15,000

Mr. Smith has been charged in Cass County with Class E Felony Resist Arrest/Fleeing, bond set at $10,000 10% Cash Only.

Smith is currently in custody at the Cass County Jail. A passenger was questioned and released.

Obituary - Romalea Miller

Romalea Miller, age 90, Pleasanton, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at The Residencies of Pleasanton. She was born on August 17, 1928 in Miami County, Kansas the daughter of Glenn and Alice Mills Good. 

She graduated from Amsterdam, Missouri High School. On April 4, 1948 she was united in marriage to Daune Miller. Together, they ran a dairy farm. She also worked at Bass Buster, Braemoor Sewing Factory and finished her work career at the Linn County Bank. 

Romalea was a member of the Pleasanton United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She and Daune enjoyed square dancing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daune on December 24, 2013, her parents, a grandson, Brian, a brother E.J. Good, and two sisters; Betty Lehar and Frances Teagarden. Romalea is survived by two sons; Richard Miller and wife Karon, and Stephen Miller and wife Connie; a daughter Debra Cobb and husband Mike; six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held 11 am Saturday, February 16, 2019 at the Pleasanton United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Trading Post Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am to service time at the Church. Contributions are suggested to Pleasanton United Methodist Church.

Harrisonville Police Department Wanted Wednesday

WANTED WEDNESDAY: This week we are on the lookout for Tyler P. Thomson. He has a warrant out Cass County for Tampering With a Motor vehicle that occurred in Harrisonville, with a bond of $7,500. He has a Cass County warrant for Fraud that occurred in Raymore, with a bond of $2,000. 

He has a Cass County warrant for Resisting Arrest with a bond of $5,000. He also has warrants out of Jackson and Johnson County and municipal warrants out of Peculiar, Kansas City and Grandview to name a few.

Carol L. Simmons, 85, Raymore, MO, formerly of Harrisonville, MO died Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Foxwood Springs in Raymore. 

Funeral services are pending at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. Service times will be updated when they become available.
