St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office News Release April 15-29, 2019

St. Clair County Sheriff Scott Keeler reported deputies made 12 arrests and took multiple reports during the weeks of April 15-29, 2019.

Obituary - Donieta Vay Davis (Patton)

Donieta Vay Davis, age 71, Hume, Missouri passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at her rural Hume home.

Funeral service will be 10 am Friday, May 3, 2019 at the Hume United Methodist Church. Burial in the Underwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 am to service time at the church.

Obituary - John Marland

John Marland, 59, Cleveland, MO, died Saturday, April 20, 2019 at his home. Inurnment to be held at a later date in New Bedford, MA.

John was born February 21, 1960 in New Bedford, MA, the son of James and Jean (Lake) Marland. John married Sheila Ann Cruz on June 20, 1981 in New Bedford. John had lived in Cleveland for the past 28 years. He was an auto mechanic and had worked for various car dealerships, and had worked in the produce department at Price Chopper in Harrisonville. He also raised pigeons.

John was preceded in death by his father and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Sheila, of the home; his mother, Jean Marland, of New Bedford, MA; one brother, Richard Marland, of Florida; and three sisters, Christine Magalhaes, of Florida, Jane Maltese, of Maine, and Paula Lima, of New Bedford.

City of Butler seeking Bid




BCSO: Uptick in local thefts

On April 26, 2019 a Deputy responded to County Road 7508 in Hume to take a report of a cattle theft. The victim stated that since February she had lost around 5 calves and believes that someone is stealing them. The calves were black in color and were about a month old when they went missing. Each calf had a value of $350.00.

On April 27, 2019 a Deputy took a report of stolen saddles from a farm located on BB highway in Butler, MO. The victim advised the Deputy he observed a vehicle leaving his driveway and followed the vehicle to Ballard where it then took off at a high rate of speed. The victim then returned to the residence and noticed a window was forced open and 4 saddles were missing. The saddles included 2 Mexico saddles valued at $250.00 each a Hereford saddle worth $400.00 and a pony saddle worth $50.00.


The Deputy was later advised that 2 of the saddles were for sale on Facebook. An area canvass was conducted and Deputies believe they were able to locate the residence where the pictures of the saddles were taken.

On April 28, 2019 a Deputy responded to a residence on Olive street in Rich Hill, MO to take a report of a burglary. The victim stated that when he came home from work he noticed that the lock on his bedroom door had been picked and his window was open. His PS4, T.V. and 50 to 60 games were missing.

The investigations are ongoing.
