Auxiliary Donates Unmanned Aerial Vehicle to Cass County Sheriff’s Office

Cass Co – On Wednesday night the Cass County Sheriff’s Office Auxiliary presented Sheriff Jeff Weber with a donation of a new drone to help first responders.

Auxiliary Board President Julie King made the presentation at the monthly meeting of the Cass County Sheriff’s Auxiliary. The Auxiliary is a 501C3 organization that acquired the nearly $24,000, through an anonymous donation. The Auxiliary then worked closely with the Sheriff’s Office staff to determine what unmanned aerial system would best meet the needs of the community served by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the sheriff’s office, the drone will help broaden first responder’s ability to conduct searches. The sheriff’s office currently have two small drones used for daytime operations, crime scene documentation, and search and rescue.

“With this new device, it gives us the capability of searching for people that go missing during the night and during inclement weather,” said Sheriff Jeff Weber.

“Missouri weather can be unpredictable and having a drone that’s capable of flying in a number of different weather conditions, both night and day, is a tremendous advantage.”

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office has been operating UAVs since 2017 and currently has two certified remote pilots.
