Obituary - William "Bill" Fredrick Gilbert Jr.,

William "Bill" Fredrick Gilbert Jr., age 78, Pleasanton, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at his Pleasanton home. He was born at Maryville, Missouri on February 2, 1941 the son of William F. and Mildred B. Jarvis Gilbert. 

He graduated from Maryville High School in the Class of 1959. Bill was united in marriage to Diane Burchett on September 21, 1962 in Faucett, Missouri. They lived in several different states before settling in Pleasanton in 2008. 

Together they worked buying and renovating homes. Bill attended the First Baptist Church, Mound City and enjoyed playing and singing music. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Patsy Rupp. Bill is survived by his wife, Diane; son, William Gilbert III, three daughters, Michelle Pankau, Jennifer Grindle, and Chandis Kee; a brother, Tim Gilbert; a sister, Ruth Reed; sixteen grand and seventeen great grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 2 pm Friday, May 17, 2019 at the Pleasanton Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to the William Gilbert Memorial Fund. Online condolences can be left at www.schneiderfunerals.com. Arrangements: Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel.

Miami Class of 2019 is proud to announce their Salutatorian

The Miami Class of 2019 is proud to announce their Salutatorian - McKinzie McWilliam

McKinzie is the daughter of Kelly and Kim Huebert and the late John McWilliam. In high school, she has participated in FCCLA, National Honor Society, Student Council, volleyball, and cheer. 

She was co-captain of cheer and National Honor Society secretary this year. After graduation, McKinzie plans to attend Wichita State University majoring in Secondary Mathematics Education to become a high school math teacher.


Obituary - Brian Yaple

John Brian Yaple age 47 of Harrisonville, Missouri departed this life Tuesday, May 14, 2019 near Ottawa, Kansas as a result of an automoblie accident.

John is survived by his daughter, Brittany Yaple of Higginsville, Missouri; his mother Gail Yaple of Harrisonville, Missouri; his father and step-mother, Ralph Yaple and Charlene of Lenexa, Kansas; two brothers, Paul Yaple of Lone Tree, Colorado, and Matt Yaple of Lathrop, Missouri; a sister, Jill Finn of Lawrence, Kansas; four grandchildren, Wyatt, Lucas, Jasper, and Olivia; other relatives and many friends.

A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held Saturday, May 18, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.

The family suggest in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association.

Disturbance in court leads to arrest in Bates County

On May 14, 2019 Deputies were dispatched to the Bates County Courthouse to assist the Court Bailiff. The Bailiff advised the Deputies that because of the recent threats made against the judge by Andrea Sheeran (DOB 9/19/1980) that he was asked by the court to search Sheeran's backpack.

The Bailiff repeatedly asked her to step out of the courtroom so he could conduct the search but she refused. 


The Bailiff then attempted to escort Sheeran out of the courtroom. Sheeran began to resist and fight him. The Bailiff was assisted by a Conservation Agent to place Sheeran in handcuffs and assist her out of the courtroom.

While the Deputies were escorting Sheeran to a patrol car she continued to scream and kick in an attempt to get away from the Deputies.

Sheeran's bond from previous charges was revoked. She is currently being held on those charges of Resisting Arrest and Assault from an incident that occured in March. More charges are expected to be filed against her by the Prosecuting Attorney.


Pastor Sharla Hulsey guest speaker at Rotary meeting

Thanks to Rotarian Don Malan who brought the guest speaker today, Sharla Hulsey, pastor of the Butler First Christian Church. Thanks to Sharla for the great program about Veterans and Memorial Day. 


Don't forget the Rotary Club will host the annual banquet at the Happy Hill Church of God Fellowship hall in Butler on June 18th at 6:30 pm. Dan Meers, known better as KC Wolf will be guest speaker and talk about his life and faith. The public is welcomed, there is a $15 charge to cover costs and tickets can be purchased from any Butler Rotary member.
