Suspicious activity in Barton county

The Barton County Sheriff's Office is requesting the assistance from the public. We have received two separate reports of suspicious activity and believe they may be linked together.

First Report: In Golden City a female juvenile was playing in her yard when a white or cream in color pickup truck pulled up next to the yard that she was playing in. A man in the truck attempted to lure the child to his truck by showing her a small puppy. Luckily the mother was able to intervene and the male subject left. The mother contacted the Sheriff's Office and a report was made on the incident. Deputies patrolled the area looking for the vehicle but it's believed to have left the area.

Second Report: A white extended cab pickup truck has been spotted inside the city limits of Golden City acting suspicious. The truck drives through the city limits while playing an ice cream truck melody. The truck is reported to not have any markings on it and drives around in the late afternoon.

We are asking you to contact the Barton County Sheriff's Office if you see anything suspicious or if you have any information about the above incidents.

You can contact us at 417-682-5541 or you can send an email bcso252@countyofbarton.com

Clinton Police Department warn of scam in the area!

Just a reminder to everyone, don't give ANYONE your banking or personal information that you don't know and trust. Institutions, such as the IRS, typically will contact you through a letter in the mail if there is a problem or concern.

The Clinton Police Department will not call you and tell you that you have a warrant for your arrest and demand money over the phone. We usually show up at your house if you have a warrant!

If you have a person or company going to do home repairs, renovations, etc, make sure and ask if they have a City of Clinton business license and a list of references. There have been people scammed out considerable amounts of money, as they will give the person doing the repairs money "up front," but never show back up to do the work.

Talk with you family and friends about this and help each other out!!
