Belton teen injured in Cass County Crash

On 6/24/19 around 6:00pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County responded to a two vehicle accident on Route D just north of 223rd Street in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2007 Honda Odyssey driven by 16 year old Jade M. Sanders was stationary waiting to turn into a driveway when the 2009 Dodge Caliber driven by 19 year old Callista R.Cotton of Cleveland, Missouri failed to yield and struck the van.

Callista R. Cotton and a passenger in Jade Sanders vehicle 36 year old Sandra A Sanders both sustained minor injuries and both refused medical treatment at the scene of this accident.

Jade Sanders sustained moderate injuries in this accident and she was transported by ambulance to Olathe Medical Center for treatment.

Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene of the crash by J's Southland Tow and Eckert's Tow.

Traffic Alert: Two vehicle accident in Butler

The Butler Police Department is on scene of a two vehicle accident at Nursery and South Main Street in Butler at this time.

No one is injured in this accident and traffic will be blocked for a short period of time.


One injured in two vehicle accident in Bates County

On 6/24/19 around 9:07am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County responded to a two vehicle accident on I-49 near mile marker 123.6 north of Rich Hill.

The Missouri State Highway says the accident occurred when the 2000 Chevrolet driven by 23 year old Jaclyn J. Austin of Butler, Missouri was northbound when she traveled through the median, becoming airborne and striking the trailer of a 2015 Freightliner driven by 64 year old Ronald E. Chrisman of Kansas City, Kansas that was southbound on I-49.

Jaclyn J. Austin sustained moderate injuries in this accident and she was transported to Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler for treatment.

The Chevrolet was towed from the scene of the accident by a private tow.

Charges to be amended in Cynthia McCoy murder case

Samantha McCoy 
Samantha McCoy, who is currently being held in connection with the murder of her mother Cynthia McCoy at the Butler city lake on May 1st appeared before the Bates County Circuit Court last week in a pre-trial conference hearing.

McCoy, who is represented by public defender Jeff Martin, asked for a reduction of bond (currently $250,000.00) which was denied.

During the hearing, Bates County Prosecuting Attorney Hugh Jenkins announced that charges against McCoy will be amended in the near future. He did not indicate exactly what the amended charges might be.

Samantha McCoy is currently being held on a charge of 1st Degree Assault with intent to cause serious physical injury, a class A felony. This charge carries a sentence of a minimum of 10 years and a maximum of 30 years to life in prison.

The next hearing is set for July 17th, 9 am in the Bates County Circuit Court.
