The Bates County Fair Parade was held last night around the historic Butler square! Despite the hot weather the parade was represented well and everyone had a good time. 

The Bates County Fair continues tonight on the east side of the fair building with the Beta Sigma Phi Epsilon Omicron's Annual Baby Contest with registration starting at 5:00pm and the contest at 6:30pm there will be a $5 entry fee to.

Obituary - Lois L. Cornelius

Lois Cornelius, 86, passed July 9, 2019. Visitation 10AM, service ted at 11AM, Friday, July 12 at Archie United Methodist Church located at 204 W. Chestnut Street.

Burial will be in the Crescent Hill Cemetery in Adrian, MO.

Driver Involved in Pursuit Charged with Kidnapping

Cass Co – On Monday around 5:40 p.m. in the area S. St. Rt. 7 and TT Highway deputies with the Cass County Sheriff's Office Criminal Apprehension Unit attempted to stop a white minivan driven by Charles L. Bedford, 27, Raymore who is wanted on multiple felony warrants.

Bedford refused to stop and fled at a high rate of speed south on S. St. Rt. 7. The pursuit continued into Henry County where deputies with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office attempted to deploy tire deflation devices. While swerving to avoid the devices Bedford lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a guardrail. Charles Bedford was taken into custody.

Bedford refused treatment at the scene and was transported to the Cass County Jail. A female passenger was flown to an area hospital in serious condition.

Charles Bedford was arrested and held on the following warrants:
Failure to Appear Driving While Revoked/Suspended, Bond $5000.00 10% Cash Only, Cass County
Failure to Appear Driving While Revoked/Suspended, Bond $5000.00 10% Cash Only, Cass County
Failure to Appear Driving While Revoked/Suspended, Bond $5000.00 10% Cash Only, Cass County

Today Cass County Prosecutors charged Charles L. Bedford with:
Count 1 Kidnapping – 2nd Degree – D Felony, Count 2 Resisting/interfering With Arrest For A Felony, Count 3 Driving While Revoked/suspended – E Felony. His bond on these charges was set at $5000.00, 10% Cash Only.

Obituary - Nancy Arlene (Barker) Driskill

Nancy Arlene Driskill, 75, Nevada, Missouri, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2019 at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada. Nancy was born August 1, 1943 in Nevada to Harry and Wilma Lucille (Young) Barker.

On August 8, 1964 she was united in marriage to John Allen Driskill, Jr. at the United Methodist Church in Nevada. Following nearly 55 years together he survives of the home.

Nancy was raised in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School in 1961. She worked for several years at Farmers Insurance in Kansas City, Kansas as an insurance coder. Nancy then became a truck driver, partnering with John for many years traveling throughout the United States and Canada. While traveling they always took their dog “Holly” with them on the truck – she loved to travel. When time allowed, Nancy enjoyed watching investigative shows on TV, and fishing. She was a member and Past Worthy President of the Auxiliary Eagles #3770 in Nevada.

In addition to her husband John, she is survived by one sister, Shirley Rehkow of Nevada; and several nieces and nephews. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Lester L. Barker.

No services are planned at this time.

Obituary - Barbara Roscine Wayland

Funeral services for Barbara Wayland of Butler, Missouri will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2019 at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler with Pastor Ron Dunlap officiating. 

Visitation will be prior to services from 10 - 11 a.m. Friday at the Schowengerdt Chapel. Cremation to follow services with inurnment at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler. Contributions to the Happy Hill Church of God. Online condolences may be left at www.schowengerdtchapel.com

Barbara Roscine Wayland, age 77 of Butler, Missouri died Monday, July 8, 2019 at Promise Health Care in Overland Park, Kansas. She was born July 16, 1941 to Frank Wesley and Mildred Roscine Pippin Miller in Butler, Missouri.

Barbara is survived by a son, Robert Hogue and wife Vickie of Butler, Missouri; Daughter Dana Michel of Dickinson, Texas; a sister, Patti Thompson of Gardner, Kansas; five grandchildren, Aimee, Sean, Seth, Alex and Ashley; and five great-grandchildren, Dakota, Mathew, Elias, Amarie, Aiden; She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bobby Wayland; and sister, Sharon Everett.
