Best of Luck Virginia

Today Butler Walmart says “Best of Luck” and not goodbye to Virginia our Personnel Manager. 

Virginia has been with the Walmart family for 24 years and has been our Personnel Manager for 16 years. 

Virginia has impacted many lives during her career. Virginia we wish you well, and you will be missed greatly by all.

3 year old missing child found safe in Barton County

On the morning of 07-19-2019 at approximately 7:51 a.m. the Barton County 911 center received a call of a missing 3 year of age child in the area of 226 NW 50th RD. 

Deputies responded to the area to look for the child, however they where unsuccessful. The Sheriff requested assistance from numerous other agencies to help in the search.

It was reported by the parents that the child was in possession of a telephone. While numerous officers, and volunteers were looking for the child. The Barton County 911 center was attempting to ping the phone and get a more exact location.

The parents were able to call the phone, and the young child was able to answer the call. The parents could hear the child crying and being upset, however the child was not able to say where she was at.

A Missouri State Highway Patrol Helicopter responded to the scene to assist in looking for the child. At approximately 9:44 a.m. the pilot contacted ground units and advised he had located the child in a field Northwest of the home. He advised that he was hovering right above the child and asked for ground units to respond to his location.

At approximately 9:56 a.m. the child was reunited back with her parents.

Sheriff Mitchell Shaw would like to say a HUGE thank you to all the agencies and volunteers who responded and searched for the child. During the search we had one officer who had searched and walked a great distance looking for the child and became ill during the search. He had got over heated and was taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

Agencies involved- Lamar Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Vernon County Sheriff's Office, Lamar Fire Department, Barton County Ambulance, Crawford County Kansas Sheriff's Office, Missouri Conservation Agents and If I have forgot anybody I apologize. There was a lot of great team work in looking for this child and we ended with a positive result of getting the child back to his parents.

FLASHBACK: Miller Greenhouse

For more than three decades, Miller Greenhouse in Butler (appropriately on Nursery street) served our community with fresh flowers and other botanical specialties. The footings for the greenhouses shown below are still visible on the northwest corner of Nursery and Olive streets.

Power poles down in Butler



The City of Butler Electric Department and Butler Fire Department is on scene of two power poles and 4 transformers that have fallen on the ground in the parking lot of Super 8 Motel in Butler. 

This power outage effects the people around the area of Sunset View Drive in Butler. It doesn't appear that anyone struck the poles at this time. 

Crews are working hard to get this restored and no time limit on repairs. 

Notice of Public Hearing in the city of Rich Hill

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

Notice is hereby given that a public hearing will be held at City Hall, 120 N. 7th Street, Rich Hill, Missouri, by the Rich Hill Board of Aldermen at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, August 19th, 2019, concerning the city’s current wastewater rate design in order to adjust customer monthly wastewater rates.

All those present will be given an opportunity to be heard.
