Shed Fire in Butler

On 7/21/19 around 10:39pm the Butler Fire Department responded to a shed fire in the 500 block of West Harrison Street in Butler.

The shed was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived on scene and the cause of the fire was undetermined and is currently under investigation.

Nevada man escapes injury in Vernon County Crash


On 7/22/19 around 6:15pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County responded to a two vehicle accident around 2 miles north of Dedrick on AA Highway.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 1992 Ford Econoline Van driven by 39 year old Carma A. Hamilton of El Dorado Springs, Missouri failed to stop at a stop sign and pulled into the path of the 1997 Dodge Ram driven by 38 year old Gregory T. Housh of Nevada, Missouri.

Carma A. Hamilton sustained minor injuries in this accident and she was transported to Nevada Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Both vehicles received extensive damages in this accident.

Obituary - Cauline Marie Edmonson

Cauline Marie Edmonson, 81, Harrisonville, MO, died Sunday, July 21, 2019 at Redwood of Blue River in Kansas City, MO. 

Memorial services will be held at 6:00 pm Thursday, July 25, 2019 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO, with visitation from 5:00-6:00 p.m. 

 Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Haven, Harrisonville.

Appleton City woman injured in Bates County rollover accident

On 7/22/19 around 10:00am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County responded to a one vehicle accident on Missouri 52 East Highway and CR NE 706 in rural Bates County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 1999 Oldsmobile driven by 23 year old Jacqueline J. Schwartz of Appleton City, Missouri traveled off the roadway, struck a ditch and overturned.

Jacqueline J. Schwartz sustained minor injuries in this accident and she was transported by ambulance to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene of the accident by Don's Tow of Butler, Missouri.

Obituary - Gerald Weldon Callahan

Funeral services for Gerald Callahan will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2019 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri.  
Visitation will be prior to services from 1-2 p.m. at Schowengerdt Chapel. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler. Contributions in lieu of flowers to Fulton Street Church of Christ. Online condolences, www.schowengerdtchapel.com.

Gerald Weldon Callahan, age 100 of Butler, Missouri died Monday, July 20, 2019 at Adrian Manor in Adrian, Missouri. He was born August 29, 1918 to Joseph Calvin and Mary Jane Cofer Callahan in Johnstown, Missouri.

Gerald is survived by his wife, June Callahan of Butler, Missouri; five children, Gary Callahan and wife Sandy of Liberty, Missouri, Carol Taylor and husband John of Amoret, Missouri, Jay Scott Underwood and Jeannie of Butler, Missouri, Neil Underwood and wife Tammy of Ft. Scott, Kansas and Richard Underwood and wife Donita of Warsaw, Missouri; 14 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
