Happy Retirement Paula





After 46 years of service, Paula Reed, Director of Materials Management and Environmental Services, retired from Bates County Memorial Hospital on July 31, 2019. Paula is pictured here with Dr. Bustle, CEO, at a retirement party in her honor.

Paula began her employment in May, 1973. She began as a posting clerk in the accounting department. In 1980, Paula transferred to the Purchasing Department has a storeroom clerk. 

Paula later transferred to the position of Purchasing Director in 1984. In 2007, Paula also took on the additional responsibility of housekeeping and laundry. Over the past 46 years, Paula has seen tremendous changes in the healthcare field, including technology. Paula’s career at BCMH has been one of always learning and adapting to constant change. 

Paula’s absence from the hospital will leave a void that will be difficult to replace. BCMH wishes her much happiness and joy in her retirement years.

Butler School Week of Welcome


Registration for the upcoming year is this Sunday, August 11, from 4 to 8 pm. Attached is a schedule of events for the week. 

All registration forms can be found on the HS web page. There will be no early registration. 

Forms may also be turned in after Sunday during school hours at the HS office. Fall sports meeting begins at 7 pm. Sr High fall sports begin on August 12.


Be on the lookout

The Henry County Sheriff's Office is attempting to locate a stolen black in color Volkswagen Passat with a Missouri licence plate number JC1-L9x. 

The vehicle was stolen sometime between 8/4 at 3pm and 8/5 at 9:30am around the area of 533 SE CR 741 in Henry County.

The vehicle was involved in a police pursuit with Cass and Henry County Sheriff's Deputies last night in NW Henry County.

Anyone with information on this vehicle please contact the Henry County Sheriff's Office. 




Obituary - Matthew Forest Feeback

Matthew Forest Feeback of Lee’s Summit passed away August 3, 2019 at his home.

He was born January 25, 1963 in Warrensburg Missouri, the son of Don and Helen Feeback.

Matthew was a graduate of Missouri Valley College. He enjoyed golf, fly fishing, watching the Kansas City Chiefs, and spending time with his pets.

He was preceded in death by his father, Don Feeback and a cousin, Steve Hon.

Matthew is survived by his wife, Brooke Feeback of the home; father and mother-in-law Paul and Lorraine Nieder, Sedalia; sister-in-law Roxanne Nieder, North Kansas City; mother Helen L. Feeback, LaTour; two brothers, Michael D. Feeback (Deborah Bilinski), Lake Ozark; Mark Feeback (Debbie), Sunrise Beach; one nephew Tanner Feeback (Dani), LaTour; aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Cremation. A private family inurnment will be held at the Rose Hill Cemetery near Latour, Missouri at a later date.

Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Furry Kid's Refuge, P.O. Box 1442, Lee's Summit, MO 64063.


Obituary - Marion Ralph Cannon

Marion Ralph Cannon was the 4th son born to Virgil Wayne Cannon and Velva Ernestine Hill Cannon on November 30, 1941 in Prescott, Kansas. He passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at home with his family by his side. Marion graduated from Hume High School in the Class of 1960 and joined the United States Army in 1960 and was stationed in Germany for eighteen months. Being in the military was something Marion was always proud of throughout his life. Marion and Joyce Bogan were married October 16, 1965, and to this union three children were born; Kristy Cannon Brooks, Dennis Alan Cannon, and Kerri Cannon Snyder. 

The couple resided in Kansas City for a year before moving to Hume, where Kristy was born. The family then moved to Fulton, Kansas where Marion would pursue dairy farming. During their fifteen years in Fulton they added Dennis and Kerri to their family. They eventually left the farm and came back to Hume. Marion worked in construction, concrete, and drove a truck for Western Metal, until he retired in 2003.

Marion was a long-time member of the Hume Christian Church and Hume Saddle Club. He loved all things outdoors including, riding horses, hunting, fishing, and trapping. He was a GPS for anyone, when GPS wasn''t a thing. He was constantly doing things for the grandchildren and great grandchildren, sneaking pop to the kids, keeping suckers in his pocket for them, and teaching many how to drive. None of the grandchildren ever heard him use the word no!
Marion is survived by his wife, Joyce Cannon, of the home; daughter, Kristy and husband Matt Brooks of Hume MO; Son, Dennis Cannon of Hume Mo; daughter Kerri and husband Jeffrey Snyder; grandchildren, Clayton Brooks (Brittney), Leana Terry (Zach), Cody Cannon (Tara), Ethan Brooks, Trent Cannon, Emily Banes (Kyle), Hannah Cannon, Madison Cannon, Gabe Barnes, Grace Barnes, Faith Barnes, and Hope Barnes; Twelve great grandchildren with one on the way.
Marion is preceded in death by his father, Virgil Cannon; mother, Velva Ernestine Howe; brothers, Kenneth Cannon, Norman Cannon, and Windell Cannon.


Funeral service will be 10 am Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at the Hume Christian Church. Burial will be in the Hume Cemetery. Live music tonight in Butler

The Bates County Nostalgia Band will have the last concert of the summer season tonight, August 5, at 7:00 pm in the Butler City Park at the Quad Shelter.. 

Featured will be music from Broadway, movies and TV. The Lady Elks will be providing refreshments for purchase.
