Dog found in Rich Hill
This guy was found in Rich Hill today. He doesn't have a tag, so we are unable to identify the owner.
TRAFFIC ALERT Bates County Route N CLOSED east of Rich Hill for Pipe Replacement Work
Where: Bates County Route N between Route B and Southeast 7586 Road east of Rich Hill
When: 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday, August 29
What: Both Route N lanes CLOSED to allow MoDOT crews to replace drainage pipe under the highway to keep water from pooling underneath and next to the road which could cause deterioration of the road bed
Traffic Impacts:
- All lanes of Route N CLOSED between Route B and Southeast 7586 Road
- Drivers will be able to get to driveways and entrances on either side of the work zone, but will not be able to travel through the work zone
- Drivers urged to find alternate routes. No signed detours are planned.

Obituary - Mary Patricia (Thorburn) King
Mary Patricia King, 84, Nevada, MO passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at her home in Nevada following a brief illness. Mary was born March 4, 1935 in Nevada to James A. and Mary Magdalene (Beason) Thorburn.
Mary grew up in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School in 1953. She worked as a secretary for the Grandview Police Department in the 1970’s and later for Westinghouse in Kansas City until her retirement. She came back to Nevada in 1997 and worked for a short time at Nevada City Hall. Mary enjoyed sewing, canning, gardening, fishing, and most of all loved being with her family.
She was married to Charles Richard King, Sr. and from this marriage survives their daughter, Sharon Crews, Nevada; and son, Rick King, Lamar, MO. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Renee King, Yuma, AZ, Keri Stewart (Rick), Chanute, KS, Sara Plunkett, Belton ,MO, Patrick Crews (Melea) Nevada, Matthew Crews, Nevada, Kenzie Burchell (Ethan), Oronogo, MO; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Roberta Miller, Blue Springs, MO, and Linda Hurst (Joe), Nevada; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death her parents; daughter, Cathy Plunkett; granddaughter, Melissa Allman; sister, Dorothy Cartwright; and brother, Roy Thorburn.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 30, 2019 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada. The family will receive friends from 6-7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Those who wish may contribute in her memory to the Community of Christ Church in Nevada in c/o Ferry Funeral Home.

Lamar Fire Chief Passes Away
It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce that Chief Larry Beatty passed away early this morning. He leaves behind a great legacy of Community service to The city of Lamar and to the citizens of Barton County, prayers would be appreciated for family and friends.

Missing person from Creighton area
MISSING PERSON -- ABRAHAM GUTIERREZ OJEDA -- REPORTED MONDAY, AUGUST 26th, 2019
Abraham Gutierrez Ojeda, age 36, Hispanic male, HEIGHT: 6'1", WEIGHT: 195 lbs.
Ojeda was last seen on Sunday, August 18th, 2019, at around 7:30 pm, in the 1600 block of NW Hwy 7, Creighton, MO, area, wearing a black, V-neck T-shirt, blue denim jeans and blue Nike tennis shoes.
He was in the company of a White female subject, slender build, approximately 5'11" with long, stringy hair, who was reportedly from the Kansas City, KS, area. The female was driving a 2006 Pontiac Torrent SUV, black in color, with Wyandotte County, KS, registration plates (plate number unknown).
Ojeda was reportedly meeting with a subject for a vehicle title exchange on Monday morning, August 19th, however he never arrived for the exchange and has not been in contact with anyone, nor has he been able to be contacted since Sunday evening, August 18th.
A telephone "ping" was conducted on Monday, August 19th, giving a last known location on East Lexington Street, in Independence, MO. The reported location of the title exchange was to occur around Independence Avenue and Benton Street in the Kansas City area.
