Suspect flees on foot in Harrisonville

Cass Co – Around 5:45 pm Tuesday the Cass County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Harrisonville Police Department to capture a person suspected of stealing in the area of S. Clearwater Drive and Anaconda Road.

Deputies arrived in the area where Harrisonville Officers had secured a perimeter after the suspect fled into a wooded area.

Officers with the assistance of Cass County Deputies and K9 Rico tracked the suspect towards Interstate 49 north of Commercial Street. Officers and K9 Rico located and apprehended the suspect hiding in a thick area of vegetation near the highway.

The subject, Rodney C. Bennett, 32, Harrisonville, was treated and released at the scene and transported to the Cass County Jail on Harrisonville warrants for Resist Arrest and Failure to Comply.

K9 Rico is one of three German Shepherd Dogs currently working for the Cass County Sheriff’s Office. “Time and time again our K9’s prove they are a valuable asset to the Sheriff’s Office and our community. We are thankful that the deputies and officers were able to work together to find this wanted subject” said Sheriff Jeff Weber.

Today, Cass County Prosecutors charged Rodney C. Bennett with First Degree Trespassing and Resisting Arrest. Bennett was issued a signature bond.

Six Rich Hill Junior High band students will be attending and performing in the West Central Missouri District Junior High Honor Band in Sedalia in January.

Obituary - Sam Weeks

Sam Weeks
Sam Weeks age 83 of Butler, MO., began a new life October 29, 2019.

He was born March 21, 1936 to Arnold &Fern Weeks in Butler, MO. He has a twin brother, Danny Weeks and a sister Judy Vanderman. He grew up in Adrian, MO. from 3rd grade on. He was united in marriage to Phyllis, July 19, 1986.

In a previous marriage he has a daughter, Cindy (Tim) and two sons, Robert (Glenda) and Archie (Tambra) and three step sons, Kenneth (Lecia), Kelly (Peggy) and Damon (Stacy).

He had a barber shop in 1971 and was a teacher and administrator of schools most of his adult life.

He served in the air force in 1956. In the past he was the President & Secretary of the Lions Club at Adrian, Missouri, Exalted Ruler of the Elks Club at Butler, Missouri, and a Mason at Adrian, Missouri. He held Church office for Safe Sanctuary and was a member at the Virginia United Methodist Church for 33 years. He was also part of a singing group " The Gospel Guys " He loved Jesus Christ as his savior , friend and helpmate always ready to serve when needed.

Sam and Phyllis met at a square dance and danced for several years traveling to different places. They also traveled 20 years in their Motor Home as campground hosts and spent 7 years hosting on a Championship golf course in Georgia. They also enjoyed several cruises; one being to Alaska and another to the Antarctic. They have continued to spend their winters in Zapata, Texas.

Sam loved to play golf with his golf buddies and he loved playing bridge.

He loved having his children and step children over and going to their places. He talked with his twin brother Danny everyday Family was everything to him.

Other survivors are 10 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation is at 10:00AM and the Funeral is at 11:00AM on November 1st at The Virginia United Methodist Church. Burial will be at the Crescent Hill Cemetery in Adrian.

Preceding his death are his parents, a grandson Tyler McGuire and a daughter-in-law Waynette Weeks.


Drexel man injured in Bates County Crash

On 10/30/19 around 3:30pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies and Adrian Fire Department responded to a one vehicle accident on Missouri 18 Highway just east of NW CR 7001 in rural Bates County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2000 Buick driven by 80 year old Jerry K. Koenecke of Drexel, Missouri traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a culvert, the vehicle struck another ditch and became airborne before coming to rest striking another culvert.

Mr. Koenecke sustained moderate injuries in this accident and he was transported by ambulance to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene of the accident by Adrian Tow.

Obituary - Carolyn Sue Gregg

Carolyn Sue Gregg, 70, Adrian, MO, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 4, 2019, at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO, with visitation from 10:00-11:00. Burial will be held in Altona Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Blue River Bible Church Missions Fund, Heartland Hospice, or KU Cancer Center.
