Obituary - Thomas Alewine

Thomas Alewine age 75 of formerly of Calhoun, Missouri presently from Lathrop, Missouri passed away, Sunday, November 17, 2019 at Liberty Hospital, Liberty, Missouri. Thomas will be cremated and there will be a private family night and a funeral at a later date in Kansas City, Missouri. Tom was born on July 29, 1944 in Kansas City, Missouri to Hayden and Evelyn (Hobby) Alewine. He loved hunting, fishing and camping. Tom was the Owner of Tom's Handyman and General Contracting in Henry County, Missouri. Tom and his wife loved to set up at festivals and fairs, playing Mardi Gras to end the season.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Timothy and a grandson, Alex.

Tom is survived by his wife of 34 years, Melodie, sons, Fred, Robert (Susan) Anderson, Jeff (Tonya) Alewine, all of Clinton, Missouri, and Joseph, Calhoun, Missouri, daughters, Karen Levie, Oregon, Karla Gonzalez, Lathrop, Missouri and Down Carey, Greenridge, Missouri, numerous other adults who called him dad, 20 grandchildren, Kennedy, Kelsea, Kolton, Tristen, Preston, Alex, Jacob, J.T., Kaydn, Evyn, Kaylee, Madison, Tyler, Abby, David, Andre, Ali, Alondra, Azriel, and Joseph, and his first great-granddaughter to be, Everleigh.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, Clinton, Missouri.


Obituary - Brice Edward Roddy

A Celebration of Life for Brice Edward Roddy will be 7PM Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Vansant-Mills Funeral Chapel, Clinton, MO. Visitation will be 6-7 PM prior to service.

Brice Edward Roddy was born March 18, 1965 in Clinton, Missouri. He was the son of Woodson Roddy and Geraldine Simmons Roddy. Brice was a bicycle enthusiast, riding, collecting, repairing and restoring numerous bicycles. Brice could identify old bicycles traveling down the road at 70 miles per hour in a vehicle.

Brice graduated from the Clinton High School in 1984. Brice moved to Missoula, Montana in 1985 to join his brother Kent and lived there until 1988. Brice worked various jobs in Montana, and knew the bicycle community there as well. He also worked in Glacier National Park the summer of 1987. Brice returned to Coffeyville, KS. where he lived with his maternal Grandparents, Clifford and Ola Simmons. There he worked at Acme Foundry. Later Brice returned to Clinton and worked at Rival Manufacturing for 4 years and other various jobs in the 1980's and 1990's.

Brice lived in Butler, MO., Nevada, MO., Springfield, MO., Kansas City, MO., and finally Sedalia, MO. for many years. Brice was a bicycle icon in Sedalia, MO. Anyone with any knowledge or interest in bicycles undoubtedly met him. The same is true here in Clinton, where Leo Huff at the local Fire Department, Sam Baugh at the Clinton Mower Shop. Skip Buckley and Charlie Dixon knew Brice and his ways. Bicycle collectors and enthusiast knew Brice as well, such as James Allen of Springfield, MO. at the Pedaler's Museum, James Leemhuis of Sedalia and many others. Brice will be missed and his vast knowledge of bicycles.

Brice was preceded in death by his father. Surviving is his mother Geraldine; two brothers, Kent and Shawn; and two nephews, Nolan and Weston.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, Clinton, Missouri.


A nice gesture



The Butler Senior Center's volunteers decided to honor their dear friend, Barbara Burch by continuing her yearly tradition of sending out Christmas Cards to veterans.  Barbara would be very proud because they are sending out 621 Christmas cards!  Good Shephard Hospice will be giving out 572 of the cards and 49 cards will be sent to the Veterans Community Project in Kansas City and St. Louis to be picked up by one of their volunteers.

The volunteers who signed the cards and stuffed the envelopes are:
Nadine Poister, Pamela Barker, Cheryl Callaway, Nora Hutcheson, Janice Highley, and Ralph Allen.  Not pictured is Edith Dilley.

Obituary - Kay Briscoe

From the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel: KAY BRISCOE, 77 of rural Rich Hill, Missouri died Friday, November 22, 2019 at her home. Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 27 at the Woodfin Cemetery near Foster, Missouri under the direction of the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel. 

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 am, Wednesday, November 27 at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel in Butler, Missouri. Contributions may be left for the Woodfin Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.schowengerdtchapel.com.

Kay is survived by son Scott Briscoe of Rich Hill; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and three great-great- grandchildren. Kay was preceded in death by her parents;Estille Jackson and Lilliam Stockstill Jackson; her husband Marion Cecil Briscoe in 2009; son Thomas Briscoe, infant daughter Sharon Briscoe and sister Marilyn Logan.


Enter the Butler holiday home decoration contest now...


The Butler Parks and Rec department has announced that they again will be sponsoring the Butler holiday home decoration contest. Three prizes will be given, 1st place will receive $100 off their electric bill; 2nd will be $75, and 3rd is $50.

All qualified entrants will receive $10 off their bill.

Open to all residents who purchase electricity from the city of Butler and displays must be 500 lights or more. Entry forms can be picked up at city hall and the Xchanger office. Deadline to enter is December 9th by 5 pm.


Butler Christmas parade all set for December 7th

The theme for this year's annual Butler Christmas parade is Winter Wonderland and here's to hoping for good weather on December 7th. Line up begins at 4 pm at the Butler high school, judging in line at 5:30, then its off to the Butler square at 6 pm.

Santa will be joining the parade and then will see visitors at his house on the northeast corner of the square. See you there!

4-H to join fight against hunger

Missouri 4-H is partnering with Feeding Missouri for our 2nd annual statewide food drive! Every 4-H club in the state is invited to contribute to its success.

From January 1 to April 30, 4-Hers across Missouri will engage in a friendly service competition to see which counties can contribute the greatest amount of food, cash contributions and volunteer hours. You’ll have an opportunity to organize and/or participate in food drives, fundraising, volunteerism and outreach to educate your communities about hunger and food insecurity.


Feeding Missouri is a coalition of our state’s six major food banks that work to provide hunger relief to every county in the state and the St. Louis City through a coordinated network of more than 1,500 community-based feeding programs.
