FLASHBACK: Bowling for Dollars in Butler

Fred Broski
IN THE 1970's FRED BROSKI was a well known name, not just for his pinpoint weather forecasts, but as host of KMBC's Bowling for Dollars show.

Contestants got a dollar a pin, and a strike or spare bumped the amount to $20. A jackpot, that started with two consecutive strikes would be upward of $200, $300 or more which added to the excitement.

At the height of the 'Dollars craze, Browski brought the program to Butler for an episode, which played out at the Butler bowling alley. Thanks to the late Ron Phillips, it was shown on the local cable TV network and featured many local folks who fondly remember the fun.

An added note, Broski had a great sense of humor- to the point, he ordered 'burnt toast', just like his wife made, at a local restaurant.

Game time changed
