The big, bad, mean ol winter storm that started yesterday is finally heading off to visit our neighbors to the East. Skies will gradually clear later this afternoon giving way to even colder temperatures overnight. Don’t be lulled into hitting the roads unless necessary, as a thin layer of ice is hiding under the snow as well. We will drop to the upper teens tonight and head to the upper 30’s tomorrow. Expect partly cloudy skies the few days to follow with highs around 40.

Snow ending this afternoon
The big, bad, mean ol winter storm that started yesterday is finally heading off to visit our neighbors to the East. Skies will gradually clear later this afternoon giving way to even colder temperatures overnight. Don’t be lulled into hitting the roads unless necessary, as a thin layer of ice is hiding under the snow as well. We will drop to the upper teens tonight and head to the upper 30’s tomorrow. If you have to get out allow yourself plenty of time to get to your destination. Buckle up and wear your seat belt.

I-49 blocked earlier today
Around 3:30 this morning a tractor trailer jackknifed in the southbound lanes of I-49 at the Adrian exit. The driver Michael Benge, 38, of Petal Mississippi sustained minor injuries. Due to icy conditions, it was several hours before the scene was cleared.
Numerous other accidents have been reported this morning as well, including a box truck pulling another vehicle that left the roadway and overturned at the Butler exit. The driver, from Minnesota, received minor injuries.

Eldorado Springs man injured in Vernon County Crash
On 1/10/19 around 4:22pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County responded to a one vehicle accident on Route B around 5 miles east of Sheldon, Missouri.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2013 Honda Civic driven by 21 year old Orwynn L. Miller of El Dorado Springs, Missouri ran off the roadway and overturned into a fence.
Mr. Miller sustained minor injuries and he was transported to Cox Barton County Hospital in Lamar.
The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene of the accident by Garwood's Wrecker Service of Nevada, Missouri.
Missouri FFA Members “The One Where it all Begins”
Over 4500 first year FFA members from more than 320 Missouri High Schools had the opportunity to learn about being positive role models, learning to get involved, making sound choices, becoming active team members and making a positive difference in their lives, school and community at the annual Greenhand Motivational Conferences. These conferences presented by the State FFA Officers and sponsored by MFA Incorporated were held January 6-10, 2020 throughout Missouri.
Through interactive workshops and skits the State FFA Officers encouraged first-year FFA members to explore their talents and reach outside their comfort zone for the opportunities provided through FFA membership. They helped the new agriculture students set goals for their education, careers, and FFA experience.
Eighteen conferences were held at 13 different locations throughout the state: Missouri State Fair Grounds, Sedalia; Bowling Green High School, Bowling Green; Truman State University, Kirksville; Sullivan High School, Sullivan; Three Rivers Community College, Poplar Bluff; Missouri State University, West Plains; Lincoln University, Jefferson City; Southeast Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau; Waynesville High School, Waynesville; Missouri State University, Springfield; Missouri Western State College, St. Joseph; University of Missouri, Columbia; and North Central Missouri College, Trenton.
The FFA is a national youth organization of over 700,000 student members preparing for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture with 348 chapters and more than 25,900 members in Missouri. The FFA strives to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.

Obituary - Joellen Walker
Joellen Walker, 66, Mission, Kansas departed this life on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at her home.
She is survived by her mother, Beverly A.Walker, Creighton, Missouri; two sisters, Jerri Carter and husband John, Fayette, Missouri and Jennifer Cramer, Belton, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Cremation. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
