VCSO receives $10,000 grant to purchase soft body armor
Orders were placed this week for new soft armor vests for deputies after the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office received a grant from the LLEBG (local law enforcement block grant) administered Department of Justice.
According to Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher, his office applied for the grant last summer and were notified in November they had received the grant. The funds became available this month to make the purchase.
“We were awarded the full $10,000 amount available through the grant to purchase new vests for the deputies” said Mosher.
The Sheriff said vests are expensive but a necessary precaution for deputies, so they had looked into grant funding to help purchase them. “The price of each vests is $1,000, so we were able to purchase 10 for our patrol staff and detectives without it costing the county anything.”
