Obituary - Linda Kay Cummins

Linda Kay Cummins, 64, El Dorado Springs, MO passed away at her home on Thursday, January 30, 2020. Linda was born January 10, 1956 in Nevada, MO to Orin and June (Brundige) Allen.

Linda grew up in Vernon County and graduated from El Dorado Springs High School in 1974. She worked as a secretary at First Christian Church in Nevada for several years and later moved to Wichita where she worked as a court recorder for 15 years until her retirement. Linda came back to El Dorado Springs in 2012 to live near her daughter and grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, sewing, playing basketball in her high school days, and loved watching sports on television. Linda was dedicated to her family and loved being with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter, Traci Guinn and her husband David, El Dorado Springs, MO; two grandchildren, Wade Hartman, El Dorado Springs, and Dylan Guinn, El Dorado Springs; two sisters, Violet Compton, Harwood, and Helen Compton, Harwood; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, February 7, 2020 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Brother Ron Pitts officiating. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the family in c/o Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

Now that’s a dandy doily


There’s a crafty group at the Butler Senior Center!  Before she left the center for the weekend, Volunteer Linda Smith wanted to show folks her large, lacy table doily. She said she had not starched it yet, but wanted everyone to see how big it was.  Great work, Linda!

Way to go Brianna Pray

The Ballard R-II School District is pleased to be working in conjunction with the Adrian Optimist Club to honor a Student of the Month for the 2019-2020 school year.

Student of the Month is selected by the staff of the Ballard R-II School District using the following criteria: attendance, attitude towards others and school, behavior, leadership, and improvement in or maintenance of good grades.

The Student of the Month for January is Brianna Pray, daughter of Melody and Tony Pray. Math teacher Mr. Bergen states, “Brianna Pray is much deserving of student of the month for her kind and respectful attitude toward fellow students and staff.”

Technology teacher, Cheryl Murchie states, “Brianna works very hard to make sure she accomplishes the goals she has set for herself. She will help anyone that needs help. She is a great role model to her classmates. She has a great sense of humor. You’ve got to watch the smiles but she does have them.”

The time is near!

The time is near!! Five Guys will open at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 3rd! Please join the City of Belton and the Belton, MO Chamber of Commerce for a grand opening ribbon cutting to welcome Five Guys to Belton! (They are located in the Cedar Tree Shopping Center.)



Shooting reported in Belton

On 1-31-2020 at 1105hrs, Belton Police, Fire and EMS were dispatched to a residence on Ewing Way on a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers contacted a 31 year old male party who sustained an apparent gunshot wound to the leg. 

The male was transported to a local hospital for treatment and his injury is not considered life threatening. Officers were informed that a 37 year old male suspect had fled the scene on foot. That suspect was located a short distance away and taken into custody without incident. 

There are no other suspects involved in the incident. The identities of the parties involved is not being released until such time as charges are filed in the case.
