Obituary - Mary Ann McDaniels

Mary Ann McDaniels, 87, Harrisonville, Missouri was born March 20, 1932 in Newton County, Arkansas the daughter of Layton and Edna (Hunter) Franks. She departed this life on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Meadow View of Harrisonville.

She was united in marriage to Jerry Lee McDaniels.

Mary was employed as a teacher and was a graduate of Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Lee McDaniels on February 1, 2014 and two brothers.

Mary is survived by relatives and friends.

A private burial will be held at the Decatur City Cemetery in Decatur, Arkansas.

Obituary - Michael Gregg Miller

Michael Gregg Miller, age 69, Nevada, MO passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2020 at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was born January 6, 1951 in Nevada, to Gregg M. and Norma B. (Dodge) Miller. He graduated form Nevada High School in 1970 and married Phyllis Lee Spillman on June 11, 1971. On April 10, 1977 he married Margaret Lee Stewart and they were married for 38 years. She preceded him in death on December 13, 2015.

Mike grew up in Nevada, MO. After some years in Clinton, MO Michael returned to the area and was the manager of O’Reilly Auto Parts for 28 years. He was an active member of First Baptist Church where he led bible class and devoted time to serving others.

Survivors include four children and three step-children; Michelle Covey and David, Nevada, MO, Ruth Olson (Scott), Springfield, MO, Rebecca Hornbostle (Everett), Mobridge, SD, Michael Miller, Jr., Maryville, MO, Jeffrey Jobe, Nevada, Jeremy Jobe (Cheryl), Columbia, Christie Harvey, Joplin; fifteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; one brother, James Miller (Carol), Nevada; two sisters Cathie Gilliland, Nevada, Karan Osmond (Kevin), Nevada, and Katie Scott (Kip), Arizona. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Shelia Harper; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Kevin Daughtery officiating. Interment will follow in Balltown Cemetery in Horton, MO. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

Archie United Methodist Church Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser event. April 5, 11:30-1. Free will offering. Monies collected is to help 2 local women travel to Nicaragua and build a house. 

There is also a silent auction during the event. Pastor vs pianist- individual that collects least amount of money gets a pie in the face.

Obituary - Donald Jantz

Funeral services for Donald Jantz will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri.

Donald Jantz, age 95, formerly of Butler, Missouri, died February 11, 2020 at Aberdeen Memory Care in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born January 21, 1925 to Daniel and Anna Mae (Steiner) Jantz in Newton, Kansas.

Don grew up outside Hesston, Kansas, on his father’s farm. Before marriage, he worked on his father’s farm and for the Santa Fe Railroad in Newton. Don and Eva were married on August 13, 1955 at First Baptist Church in Newton. He owed two farms in Vernon County and one farm in Bates County, and generally ran about 100 head of cattle. He worked many jobs in building and road construction and retired from construction work in 1980. He gradually retired from farming in his later years.

Don loved nature and traveling. He enjoyed hunting as a young man and kept a beautiful flower garden in his retirement years. He made trips to China, Canada, and Mexico; but he enjoyed traveling in America most. The Rocky Mountains in Colorado were his favorite place to vacation.

Don is survived by three sons, Bob and wife Min and son Mark, Bill and wife Kathy and son Michael of Tulsa, and Jim of Columbia, Missouri; a brother, Marion Jantz of Nevada, Missouri; a sister Emily and Harry Nachtigal of Hutchinson, Kansas; and numerous nephews, nieces, grandnephews, and grandnieces. He is preceded in death by his wife Eva, his parents and four brothers and four sisters: Adella Jantz, Bernice Nightengale, Cecil Jantz, Marcellus Jantz, Waneta Amstutz, Glenn Jantz, Jason Jantz, and Roma Jantz.

Appleton City spring garage sales coming in April

The Appleton City Spring City Wide Garage Sale dates will be April 3rd & 4th. Permits are $5 and can be purchased at City Hall from March 16th through March 31st. Permits to set up in the A.C. Park are $25 for the pole shelter, $15 for the stage, $10 for a lawn permit and that price covers both days. Park permits are also available at City Hall and are sold on a first come, first served basis. 

Maps will be available at Food Fair, Powell's True Value & Casey's beginning Thursday afternoon. House of Joy Ministry will be at the City Park on Saturday from 3:00-5:00 to pick up donations. If you have questions, please call Dianne Foster at 476-2390.

Nora Lucille "Nieder" Spears, age 91 of Butler, Missouri died Sunday, March 1, 2020 at Medicalodge in Butler. She was born October 11, 1928 to John August Carl and Mary Bell Henderson Nieder in Butler.

Nora is survived by four grandchildren, Robert Ficklin of Monticello, Arkansas, Ronald Terwilliger II of Peculiar, Missouri, Randy Terwilliger and wife Emily of Harrisonville, Missouri, and Heather Vaughan and husband Joe of Oklahoma City, OK; six great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Tina Nieder and Nancy Armentrout, both of Amsterdam, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband A.B.; daughter Connie Lynn; great-grandson Robert Scot Ficklin, and siblings.
