Drive through flu shot clinic set for this month

A drive-through flu shot clinic will be held on October 15 and 16 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at High Street Family Care Clinic, located at 706 S. High Street, Butler, Mo. No appointments are necessary for established patients of any Family Care Clinic. 

New patients may only participate in the High Street FCC Drive-Through Flu Shot Clinic by calling ahead at 660-200-3627 to fill out paperwork.

Other important details for the drive-through flu shot clinic:

• Flu shots at the drive-through clinic are available for patients ages three years and up.
• High dose shots are available for patients when indicated. 
• Patients should be feeling well and free of any symptoms of illness when receiving a flu shot.
• The patient/patient insurance is responsible for payment.

By Appointment In Clinic

Due to COVID-19 precautions, flu shots are available in-clinic, at any Family Care Clinic, by appointment only for patients ages six months and up. High dosage vaccines are available for patients when indicated. Some patients may wish to consult with their provider to decide which flu vaccine is best.

Obituary - Carl Grainger

Carl Lester Grainger, age 80 of Rich Hill, Missouri died Thursday, October 1, 2020 at Medicalodge of Butler.  He was born July 3, 1940 to Lester Golden and Bonnie Newman Alexander Grainger in Parkville, Missouri.

Carl is survived by his brother, Harold Grainger and wife Barbara of Butler, Missouri; and nephews and nieces.  He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Edith Rinehart; nieces, Tammy Riddel and Jessica Lee Ann Evans; and brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Norma Grainger.

Carl Leslie Shubert, age 96 of Nixa, Missouri died Sunday, October 4, 2020 at Castle Wood Assisted Living in Nixa.  He was born June 28, 1924 to Charles Elmer and Ruth Hughes Shubert in Adrian, Missouri.

Carl is survived by his daughter, Marlena Bennett and husband Doug of Nixa, Missouri; two brothers, Herman Shubert of Butler, Missouri and Claude Shubert and wife Judy of Boise, Idaho; one sister, Judy Colburn and husband Lyndell of Butler, Missouri; and two grandchildren, Evan and Ryan.  He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Roberta Harrison; one brother-in-law; and one sister-in-law.

Obituary - Ruby Lorene Pointer

Ruby Lorene Pointer, age 73, Mound City, Kansas passed away on Friday, October 2, 2020. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri on March 3, 1947 the daughter of Loren and Ruby Jacobs Fritts. She graduated from Pleasanton High School. Ruby and William "Pete" Pointer Jr. were united in marriage on December 25, 1966. He preceded her in death on January 5, 2018. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a son Brandon. Ruby worked managing the Pleasanton School Bus Fleet and later was a janitor for Pleasanton USD 344. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, gardening, and home improvement projects. 

Ruby was a quiet, kind and compassionate person. For many years, she took children from the Pleasanton Community to enjoy a vacation at Disney World. Ruby is survived by a son, Eric Pointer and Wendi, and Bryan Pointer, a sister, Barbara Sutterby, and granddaughters, Kyra, Jaidyn and Danyka Pointer.

Memorial service will be 7 pm Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. Visitation will be from 6 pm to service time at the Pleasanton Chapel. Cleveland man killed after being stuck by a truck in Cass County

On 10/4/20 around 11:35pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a pedestrian that was struck and killed on E. 299th Street at SW Outer Road near Harrisonville.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 1989 Chevrolet truck driven by 54 year old Thomas R. Hopkins of Harrisonville, Missouri struck 30 year old Joseph E. Monteil of Cleveland, Missouri.

Mr. Monteil was transported to Cass Regional Medical Center were he was pronounced dead at 12:16am this morning.

This is Troop A of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's 52nd Fatality of the year 2020.

Breakin at Archie school over the weekend

The Archie R-V School District is saddened to report that one of the district’s buildings was broken into over the weekend. The person or persons that broke into the building caused damage to the interior and stole FFA fundraiser monies in the form of cash and checks. These funds were gathered directly from community members. This is not just an attack on the district, but also all of the district’s patrons that gave of their finances to support the students of the district by giving to this specific fundraiser. 


The local police department has been contacted and an investigation is underway. If you have any details or information that pertains to this incident, please notify the Archie Police Department at (816)380-5242.



Hume Fire Fundraiser gets spicy hot...

The Hume Fire Department held their annual Chili Cook-off and Auction Saturday evening, October 3rd, at the Hume Community building. A good crowd attended and enjoyed a variety of delicious chili's, from traditional recipes to "call out more trucks to put out the FIRE" spicy! Winner of that competition was Nicole Brooks.

The auction brought some good bids, helping the local Fire Department raise funds to assist in purchasing additional equipment. Highlights of the auction included a quilt topping $200 to some mouth-watering baked goods bringing well over $50 to a jar of pickles approaching $70. Following those events, a "5k Run" was scheduled.
