The Bates County Sheriff's Office is seeking applicants for a temporary part-time Janitor position that is approximately 15 hours a week.

Bates County Elks will serve takeout Award Winning Pulled Pork Sandwiches

On March 29th, the Bates County Elks will serve takeout Award Winning Pulled Pork Sandwiches by Jason Bennett, and baked beans, for $8, beginning at 6 PM. 

In recognition of Vietnam Veterans Memorial Day, all Vietnam-era Veterans will receive a free meal.


Obituary - Sheila Estella Brakey

Sheila Estella Brakey, age 70 of Butler, Missouri passed away Monday, March 22, 2021 in Butler, Missouri. Sheila was born August 21, 1950, the daughter of Theodore and Thelma Louise Sparwaser Buhrle at Butler, Missouri. 


She enjoyed doing needlepoint, putting puzzles together, playing computer games and collecting various items. Sheila was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Buhrle. 

She is survived by husband, Benton, three sons, Danny Spear, Shawn Brakey (Bailey), Michael Spear, a daughter, Veronika Spear, a brother, Robert Buhrle, a sister, Karen Louise Watts, twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Graveside service will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, March 27th at the Trading Post Cemetery in Pleasanton, Kansas. 

Visitation will be held from 1 pm to 1:45 pm, Saturday, March 27th at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. The family suggests contributions to Olive's Hope. Online condolences may be left at www.schneiderfunerals.com.

Power Outage in Harrisonville

ATTENTION: The Harrisonville Electric Department is responding to a power outage currently affecting the west/central portions of town.

Staff say the outage was caused by an underground burn at one of the substations and are working diligently to get it restored.

Staff estimate repairs will take about 45 more minutes.

Jay Dee Thomas, age 27 of Butler, Missouri died Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler. He was born May 7, 1993 to Bobby Dale and Sharon Yates Thomas in Kansas City, Missouri.

Jay Dee is survived by his father, Bobby Thomas of Butler, Missouri; two brothers, Steven Thomas and wife Natalie and Calen Chaney and significant other Ashley all of Butler, Missouri; and one nephew, two nieces and two uncles. He was preceded in death by his mother.

Obituary - Joan Rochelle Forrester

Joan Rochelle Forrester, age 85, of Raymore, Missouri passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2021.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 26, 2021 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Joan was born in St. Louis, Missouri on February 20, 1936 to Lawrence L. Manetzke and Mildred Ann (Hutsell) Manetzke. She was baptized in the Roman Catholic Church on April 26, 1936 at the St. Joseph Chapel in Glencoe, Missouri. Joan married Boyd Edward Forrester on December 4, 1955 in Aurora, Missouri and they had three children, Lawrence, Linda, and Christopher.

Joan was preceded in death by her loving husband Boyd Forrester; parents, Lawrence and Mildred Manetzke, son Christopher Forrester, sister in law, Mary Ann Manetzke, daughter in law, Mary Forrester, nephew David Manetzke, niece in law Mary Connelly, and great grandchild Jakob Simpson.

She is survived by children, Lawrence Forrester of Raymore, Missouri and Linda Nosbisch (Kenneth) of Republic, Missouri; brother Gerald Manetzke of Aurora, Missouri; nieces, Rebecca and Theresa Manetzke; nephew Daniel Manetzke (Terry); grandchildren, Denise Simpson (Scott) of Belton, Missouri, Shane Coley of Belton, Missouri, Lori Lueders (Jared) of Aurora, Missouri, Kevin Nosbisch of Republic, Missouri; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, and many loving friends.
