Clinton FFA Horse Judging Team took first place in state contest

Congratulations to your 2021 Missouri State Champion Horse Judging Team!!

The Clinton FFA Horse Judging Team took home first place this past weekend at the state contest, with Caroline Wagoner also having a first place individual finish. The team will represent the state of Missouri at the National FFA Contest this coming fall.

These students have been preparing for contests since last summer, and their dedication and hard work paid off this weekend. During this weekend's competition, students judged five classes; three halter classes where they evaluated the horses conformation and two performance classes where they judged the way a horse is shown while being ridden. They then presented two sets of oral reasons to a judge explaining why they placed the animals in the order that they did. And finally, students took part in a 50-question equine science exam.

FFA Advisor, Tanner Robertson is very proud of these state champions, "Coaching this team has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career so far! This is an extremely talented group of young adults that had a drive to win. They worked very hard and learned so much even in a year full of challenges. They told me last summer that they were going to win state and that is exactly what they did. Their efforts paid off in a huge way and I am incredibly proud of each of them. I have no doubt that each of them will continue to be successful in the future and I look forward to seeing them grow from this point forward."

Obituary - Leonard Paul Meiron

Leonard Paul Meiron, age 82, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away on Friday, April 16, 2021.

A rosary will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 23, 2021 followed by a memorial mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Sabina Catholic Church, 700 Trevis Ave., Belton, Missouri 64012. Following mass a celebration of life will be held at Leonard and Nancy's home.

Leonard was born in Springfield, Illinois on December 9, 1938 to John A. Meiron and Mary Therese (Trello) Meiron. After graduating high school Leonard was joined in marriage with Nancy (Pierce) on August 17, 1957 in Kansas City, Missouri. He then went on to serve his country honorably and faithfully in the United States Airforce. This paved the way for Leonard’s career as an Air Traffic Controller. In life Leonard gave back to others selflessly. He was involved in the Missouri Special Olympics, donated food to St. James, and was a faithful member of the Knights of Columbus. Every Sunday Leonard would go with Nancy to the Benton House in Belton and give communion to residents there. They were faithful members of St. Sabina Catholic church. Leonard also loved baseball as well as other sports along with hunting and fishing.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Meiron; and brother Robert Meiron.

He leaves behind his loving wife of over sixty-two years, Nancy Meiron; five children, Michael Meiron, Matthew Meiron (Valerie), Mitchell Meiron (Deborah), Theresa Pond (Brian), and Katherine Morin (Rod Tanner); brother, Tom Meiron; two sisters, Theresa Williams and Patricia Kersey; nine grandchildren, Jason, Jill, Joy, Travis, Nicole, Jacob, Halley, Austin, and Allison; and six great grandchildren, Addison, Chase, Colton, Dax, Kennison, and Beckett.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Special Olympics Missouri, 305 Special Olympics Dr., Jefferson City, Missouri 65101.

Butler City Council will meet tonight at 7:00 pm

The Butler City Council will meet tonight at 7:00 pm at City Hall.. This meeting will be opened to the public as we swear in the new City Councilmen tonight.

Obituary - Robert Lynn Horn

Robert Lynn Horn, 68, Bay Pines, FL passed away on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Bay Pines VA Health Care System following a lengthy illness. Bob was born September 27, 1952 in Kansas City, MO to Richard and Betty (Sands) Horn.

He married Mary Jane Wynn and to this union two children were born. He later married Vickie Lynn Howell and to this union three children were born in addition to the three bonus children that Vickie brought to the marriage with her. She preceded him in death in 2010.

Bob grew up in Kansas City and graduated from high school there. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Westchester County. Following his service years, he spent time in Arizona and in Kansas City before settling permanently in Florida. Bob worked as a truck driver for Wynn Dixie for many years. He always looked forward to his visits to Nevada and Horn Hill in Walker, MO where his father and mother lived.

Survivors include his children, Robert D. Horn, Springfield, MO, Jackie Wilson, Kansas City, MO, Zachary Horn, St. Petersburg, FL, Lucillia Muijters (Dean), Ft. Carson, CO, Victoria Horn, the Netherlands, Donna Howell, St. Petersburg, FL, Thomas Frye, St. Petersburg, FL, and Amber Howell, St. Petersburg, FL; six grandchildren, Josiah, Alyson, Matthew, Natasha, Madalyn, Molly, and Jayda; one sister, Paula Sowell (Gary), Lenexa, KS; and one brother, Michael Horn, Walker, MO. In addition to his wife, Vickie, he was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Obituary - Quinton Setzer

Quinton Setzer, 60 formerly of Butler, Missouri passed away Monday, April 19, 2021. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler (660-679-0009). There will be no visitation. Burial will follow services in Radford Cemetery near Spruce.

Quinton Setzer was born July 13, 1960 in Kansas City, Missouri to Kenny Setzer and Carolyn Weatherman Norberry. He grew up in the Butler, Missouri area near Spruce and attended the Ballard School.

Quinton was known to be a hard worker and held several jobs throughout his life. He worked building homes for Kelly Moise, pouring concrete with Dennis Chastine, and driving a truck and working on the farm for Gardner Trucking. At each job Quinton developed lifelong friendships.

He was preceded in death by his parents. an uncle Bobby Bowlin, and a cousin Ken Gurly. He is survived by his daughters, Jamie, Skylar, and Krista, by a son Waylan, grandchildren, Drea Shreve-Setzer, Kyler Setzer, Addison Kuda, Oliver Holmes, aunt Sue Lancaster, uncle Billy Weatherman, and by many cousins, extended family members and many dear friends.

Burglary in Deepwater

On April 17th, a St. Clair County deputy responded to Deepwater in regards to a burglary. 

Upon making contact with the victim, the deputy received information that the victim had returned to his/her hunting cabin and observed the door knob had been pried off, and multiple sleeping bags left inside of the cabin that did not belong to the victim. 

A small propane heater and a box of 30-30 rifle bullets were reported missing, and the total value of loss was estimated at $180.00 at that time.

Stealing in Appleton City

On April 15th, a St. Clair County deputy responded to a call for service in Appleton City in reference to stealing.

Upon making contact with the victim, it was reported that a blue in color Dodge Journey was found attempting to steal the rear end from a Chevrolet S-10 Truck, but returned the rear end and left when confronted by the victim.

Shortly later, when the victim returned home, he/she noticed that the rear end was missing. The total value of the rear end was valued at $100.00.
