Obituary - Harold Charles Allen Sr.

Harold Charles Allen Sr., age 92, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 20, 2021.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 26, 2021 at St. Sabina Catholic Church, 700 Trevis Ave., Belton, Missouri 64012. Following visitation will be a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Belton Cemetery in Belton, Missouri.

Harold was born on February 5, 1929 in Salina, Kansas to Irvin Edwin Allen and Anna Katheryn (Hergenrader) Allen. Shortly after high school, Harold was joined in marriage with his wife, Awanda Allen on May 24, 1948 in Wichita, Kansas. Together they were blessed with six children. In 1962, Harold was inducted in the United States Air Force at the McConnel AFB in Wichita, Kansas. Harold served his country honorably and faithfully until 1967 when he was discharged at the Richard Gebauer AFB in Belton, Missouri. Harold later worked as an Instrument Mechanic and Avionics Mechanic for Trans World Airlines before retiring.

Harold was preceded in death by his loving wife of over seventy-two years, Awanda Lee Allen; son, Martin D. Allen; parents, Irvin Edwin and Anna Katheryn Allen; brother, Jack D. Allen; and sister in law, Becky Allen.

He is survived by two sons, Donald D. Allen (Judith) and Harold C. Allen Jr.; three daughters, Lana Marie Rooks (Herb), Linda S. Montgomery (Derrick), and Margaret A. Allen; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-four great grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.

The Nevada Parks & Recreation Department is canceling Summer Camp for 2021

The Nevada Parks & Recreation Department is canceling Summer Camp for 2021.

This difficult decision was reached after considering many options to determine if camp could be held. “I recognize how important camp is to our residents, and I am truly saddened to have to cancel for the summer,” said Nevada City Manager Mark Mitchell. “We appreciate your patience as we work through this difficult time.”

Canceling summer camp was primarily based on budget shortfalls and staffing. All who registered for Summer Camp 2021 with the Nevada Parks Department, will receive a full refund.

Camp Osage is offered through The Osage Prairie YMCA, 500 W Highland Ave, and offers multiple payment options that include State Paid Tuition Assistance and financial assistance for any qualifying family. Shots Fired In Belton

On April 20th just after 6 AM, Belton Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Markey Meadows Townhomes on a report of shots fired. Upon their arrival, officers located a residence and a vehicle which had been shot multiple times. Thankfully, no one was injured. Through the cooperation with the public and the use of the Community Video Partnership, officers and investigators were able to identify a suspect. The suspect was taken into custody a short time after the shooting in south Kansas City by the Kansas City Police Department.

Today, the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office charged 32 year old Anthony Simpson of Kansas City, Missouri with shooting at or from a motor vehicle at a person, vehicle or inhabitable structure as well as unlawful possession of a firearm. Mr. Simpson’s bond was set at $25,000 cash only.

This is yet another example of collaboration between the police and the community along with the use of the Community Video Partnership resulting in a serious crime being solved quickly.

Obituary - Patricia (Pat) Ann Hord

Patricia (Pat) Ann Hord, age 87, of Clinton, passed away Monday, April 19th, 2021 at Brookdale of Overland Park, Overland Park, KS. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 24th, 2021 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Clinton, MO. 

Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 AM at the church, followed immediately by praying of the rosary and the funeral mass. Interment in Englewood Cemetery, Clinton. 

The family suggests memorial contributions to be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Shriner’s Hospital for Children and may be left in the care of Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton.

Pat was born in Needles, California on June 16, 1933, the daughter of Fredrick Russell and Dora (Bent) Russell. Pat moved to Kansas City, MO with her family in 1941. She graduated with the class of 1951 from Lillis High School in Kansas City. After graduation from school she worked for a time at Commerce Bank in Kansas City. Pat met the love of her life, Bruce, on a blind date in 1955 and the two were married in 1956.

From a young age, Pat dreamt of having five children and supporting her large family as a stay at home mom. Her dreams were fulfilled, and the couple was blessed with five children, three sons and two daughters. Pat was a devoted mother, and involved herself in the myriad activities of her children. Her support was unwavering, and Pat was always willing to devote her time and energy toward the interests and hobbies of her loved ones. 

Whether by herding five children on a hot summer’s day during an arrowhead hunting outing or rising early to fry chicken before a trip to the state fair, she never failed to give of herself and her own time in the interest of others. Her family was the center of her life, and she considered numerous people in the Clinton community her adopted children and grandchildren. Pat also played an active role in numerous church and school functions, as well as her children’s organizations such as Boy Scouts and Camp Fire Girls.

Pat was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, and her life was deeply enriched by her faith and her community. Actively involved in the planning and organization of Church events, members of the community knew that a call from Pat was a call to service.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bruce Hord; her parents; her brother Fred Russell, Jr.; her sister Rose (Russell) Longiaru; and her son-in-law Joe Jarsulic.

She is survived by three sons, Chris (Dawn) Hord of Lee's Summit, Missouri, Jim (Joy) Hord of Olathe, Kansas, and Lawrence (Christine) Hord, of Lynn, Missouri; two daughters, Becky Jarsulic of Lenexa, Kansas, and Julie (Vince) McDonough of Fenton, Missouri; ten grandchildren, Christy Steele, Adam White, Mallory Hord, Laura (Keith) Cameron, Tricia McDonough, Katie McDonough, Brayden Hord, Preston Hord, Sierra Hord, and Olivia Hord; four great-grandchildren, Devin Forsee, Blake Gregory, Haven Schouten, and Fiona Cameron; and four great-great-grandchildren, Addie Zarhouni, Kai Forsee, Trey Gregory, and Gracelynn Gregory; as well as many relatives and friends.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton, Missouri.
