Attention Miami R-1 Promenade Watchers

Attention Prom “goers” and promenade watchers. Tonight there will not be valet parking. Students will enter their vehicles through the exit of the elementary School Where you will park your car in front of the elementary school both sides and walk to the north end outside of the gym to be announced into the Promenade.

If someone is dropping you off And taking the vehicle, they will enter through the regular marked entrance and drop you off in front of the gym. 

Spectators will enter through the regular entrance and park where what is customarily known as the “student parking” Please do not park in front of the high school on either side. Bleachers are set up for everyone to watch the promenade.


Warmer Weather, Finally

Warmer weather is expected for Sunday into the first half of next week. That warmth will come with some wind though, especially Monday and Tuesday. The next chance for storms comes mainly Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Nevada Speedway Cancelled Tonight

We tried our best everyone but unfortunately we cannot get the track ready for tonight.

We tried our best but with some of the equipment down and not wanting to make a call early as some teams travel from far away.

The races are cancelled for tonight April 24th.


Obituary - Linda Sue Carter

Linda Sue Carter, 73, of Appleton City, Missouri passed away Sunday, April 18, 2021, at her home. Linda’s wishes were to be cremated. 

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held by the family at a later date. Fond memories and condolences can be left online at www.vansant-millsfuneralhome.com.

Linda was born on September 3rd, 1947, the youngest of six children to Joseph “Buck” and Frances (Kelly)Ward, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She grew up in Tulsa where she met and married the love of her life, Avil Lewis Carter, in 1963. Together they had three children: William “Billy”, Sharron and Avil “JR” Jr.

Linda was an avid reader, writer and had a love for music and dancing. She loved animals of all kinds, but always had a special place in her heart and room in her home for her dogs. She fiercely loved her family and enjoyed spending time with all of them throughout the years.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband and parents, children Billy and Sharron, and siblings, Kelly and Paulette.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, JR and Heather Carter of Rio Rancho, NM and adopted daughter Kamie Martin of the home. Siblings Vivian Gomez of Greeley, CO, Cecilia Davis of Deepwater, MO and Carl Ward of Owasso, OK. She had one grandson, Zachary Carter, of Midwest City, OK, and two great-granddaughters, Karma and Evelyn; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.


Obituary - Lahanda R. Strickland

Lahanda R. Strickland, age 84, of Belton, Missouri, formerly of Wellington, Texas, passed away on Friday, April 23, 2021.

No services are scheduled at this time.

Lahanda was born in Hollis, Oklahoma on June 16, 1963 to Hershel Mayhugh and Thelma (Leathers) Mayhugh. 

She graduated high school and worked most of her life as a school librarian. In life Lahanda enjoyed playing on the computer and cross stitching.

Lahanda was preceded in death by her parents, Hershel and Thelma Mayhugh; and brother Fred Mayhugh.

She is survived by her sister Charolette Booth (Jack); and nephew, Craig Minatrea.

Structure Fire in Nevada



Shooting Investigation in Henry County

WANTED PERSON -- INVESTIGATION OF 1ST DEGREE ASSAULT, 1ST DEGREE BURGLARY AND ARMED CRIMINAL ACTION.

KEVIN LEE THORNBURG, W/M, AGE 32, HGT: 6'0, LBS: 200, HAIR: BROWN, EYES: GREEN.

Deputies are currently on scene in the 700 block of SE 250 (Coal area) investigating this incident and Thornburg is currently wanted for questioning regarding his involvement, in which the victim sustained a gunshot wound to the arm, believed by means of a shotgun.

Thornburg fled the scene heading west on SE 250 in a black or dark blue pick-up truck (possibly an extended cab Chevrolet) with the reported shotgun still in his possession. It is unknown if there were other occupants in the the truck at the time of the incident or upon its departure.

Kevin Thornburg should be considered ARMED & DANGEROUS at this time and is being sought by law enforcement officers which are in the area searching for the suspect.
