BCMH celebrates National EMS week

EMS professionals fill many roles. This year, for National EMS Week, we honor their sacrifice and dedication, not only to keeping us safe, but for all the ways they care for our communities. In any given shift, they may fill the role of healthcare professional, emergency manager, social worker, crisis counselor, consoler, or caregiver.

Because of the pandemic, the normal community outreach opportunities just weren't available that the BCMH EMS team usually participate in to educate young people or raise awareness. This year, the focus was on increasing patient/staff safety by updating PPE, acquiring foggers to sanitize units, and assisting with the hospital's vaccine clinics.

BCMH recognizes and thanks its EMS team for their contributions, as well as all local first responders.

Updated Obituary - Trent Wilson

Charles Trent Wilson, 63, passed away on Thursday, May 13th, surrounded by his family. Visitation will be Tuesday evening, May 18 from 5-7 PM at Mullinax Funeral Home (660-679-0009) in Butler. Graveside funeral services will be at 10:00am Wednesday, May 19 in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Adrian Frontier Village. Memories and messages of condolence for the family may be left at www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com.

Trent was born on September 14th, 1957, the son of Charles Edward and Norma Jean Wilson née Jones and raised in Butler, MO. Trent was a happy-go-lucky youngster and loved being a farm boy. He enjoyed trail rides, camping with friends, and riding his motorcycles. He particularly liked participating in sports and once pitched a no-hitter in youth baseball.

He graduated from Butler High School in 1976 and completed an auto mechanics course at Graff Vo-Tech in Springfield, MO. He had fond memories of that time including a stocking job at Sears, eating with childhood friends at their dormitory, and riding trials bikes in Oklahoma. One fateful night in May of 1977, he met an Adrian girl at Harry’s Dairy-King, and it was love at first sight for them both. Trent and Karla Jean Jenkins were married on May 30, 1981 and later blessed with three children.

Trent was raised in the Catholic faith and was a quiet, introspective, and moral man. He generally expressed himself through deeds. While he often had more patience for his cattle than for people, he frequently helped friends and strangers in need. In addition to assisting stranded motorists near his farm on I-49 and finding his daughter’s lost Polly Pocket doll after the Rich Hill 4th of July celebration, he once chased down a thief that had stolen a friend’s truck and held him until police arrived. He attended as many of his children’s activities as he could and he never missed buying flowers for his wife on her birthday, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, and their anniversary.

Trent was a lifelong farmer and rancher and took great pride in his work. Throughout his career, he was always putting in effort to better his abilities and the farming operation. Although he did not read much for pleasure, he spent countless hours poring over farm publications to understand the newest farming practices. His family knew quitting time was “dark thirty”, or any time from dusk to midnight. Trent taught his children his work ethic and to appreciate the satisfaction of a job well done. He enjoyed checking cattle and loved watching the changing of the seasons and the natural world interact around him.

Trent was preceded in death by his parents; wife’s parents; brother, Ed Newport; sister-in-law, Barbara Jenkins; and nephew, Alex Jenkins. He is survived by his wife, Karla of the home, son, Jared of Butler, MO; daughter, Lindsey and husband, Ryan McKoon of Paola, KS; daughter, Candice and husband, Jake Hess of Manhattan, KS; sister, Patricia and brother-in-law, Wilbur Herman of Butler, MO; sister, Carol and brother-in-law, Rick Ralston of Sibley, MO; brother and sister-in-laws and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the loving women of Heartland Hospice and Butler Medicalodge for their care. Memorials may be made to Frontier Village in Adrian, MO.

Obituary - John Victor Wilson

John Victor Wilson, age 67, of Belton, Missouri, passed away on Friday, May 14, 2021 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

A celebration of John’s life will be held with a visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 21, 2021 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083.

John was born in Kansas City, Kansas on April 6, 1954 to Louis Wilson and Arlene (Sixta) Wilson. He worked hard in many different trades, enjoying a successful career as a field service engineer, recently retiring from Kodak.

In life, John was a humble and modest man who would do anything for anyone. He was a master woodworker, enjoying nothing more than working with his hands, except maybe the KC Chiefs. John was well known for his sense of humor and never passed up a chance to tell a groan-worthy dad joke. He loved to host his family, cooking and entertaining. For the past thirty-one years, John was blessed with sobriety allowing him to enjoy the most of what life had to offer. He truly enjoyed gardening, cake, and along with his wife Elaine, was a restaurant connoisseur. Although he would often joke about the Wilson curse of closing down their favorite restaurants, over 50 of them, in fact.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Arlene Wilson.

He leaves behind his loving wife of over twenty-five years, Elaine (Snyder) Wilson; two daughters, Angela Moore (Sean) and Jessica Wilson; son Steven Kanatzar (Tanya); grandchildren, Kayla, Matthew, Ava, Jace, and Jackson; and great-grandson, Harrison; six siblings, Arlene Wilson, Tim Wilson (Janet), Elmo Wilson, Chris Wilson (Stacey), Victoria Bindseil (Steve), and Mike Wilson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association, 6800 93rd Street, Overland Park, Kansas 66212.
