Obituary - Mary Elizabeth Martin

Funeral services for Mary Martin of Lee's Summit, Missouri formerly of Butler, Missouri will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri. 

Visitation will be prior to services from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at Schowengerdt Chapel. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler. Contributions to Calvary Baptist Church. Online condolences, www.schowengerdtchapel.com.

Mary Elizabeth Martin, age 84 of Lee’s Summit, Missouri formerly of Butler, Missouri died Wednesday, May 19, 20921 at Wilshire At Lakewood in Lee’s Summit. She was born October 6, 1936 to William and Leona Elizabeth Kimlin Minter in Cleveland, Ohio.

Mary is survived by two sons, Ted Martin and wife Debbie of Stilwell, Kansas and Phil Martin and wife Angie of Butler, Missouri; two daughters, Barbara Walker of Sedalia, Missouri and Kimberly “Kim” Lowrimore and husband Greg of Grain Valley, Missouri; 11 grandchildren, Carl Martin, Katie Martin, Kyle Martin, Matthew Martin, Kevin Walker, Crystal Walker, Shelly Cooper, Mike Embry, Amie Lowrimore, Steven Lowrimore and Brian Lowrimore; 10 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Carl in 2003; one brother, James Minter; two sisters, Leona Nunn and Josephine Everhart; a daughter, Carol Embry; and son-in-law, Glen Embry.

Reminder Archie Citywide Cleanup this weekend

The City of Archie will be having a Citywide Cleanup day on Saturday, May 22, 2021, from 8:00AM-1:00PM. 

There will be a dumpster located at the Southeast corner of Main and Pine Streets, in front of the red City maintenance barn. 

The items that will NOT be accepted at Citywide Cleanup on Saturday, May 22, from 8AM-1PM, are: Appliances, Tires, Batteries, Paint, Yard Waste, and Hazardous Household Waste. There will be a City employee on site to help you at the dumpster.

Please do NOT place any of the items listed in the dumpster. Thank you!


Obituary - John R. Kidd, Jr.

John R. Kidd Jr., age 73, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Good Samaritan Society in Olathe, Kansas.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083. A memorial service will follow at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

John was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 31, 1947 to John R. Kidd Sr. and Alice (Davidson) Kidd. After graduating high school John continued his education and then served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam war. For over thirty years he worked for John Sakash Company supplying construction equipment, eventually retiring as a manager. In life John was a member of the Grandview First Baptist Church with his late wife Mary (Kathy). John was known for his sense of humor and was a friend to everyone he met.

John was preceded in death by his loving wife of over thirty years, Mary K. Kidd.; and parents, John Sr. and Alice Kidd.

He is survived by his three children, Bryan Casey (Dena), Sandy Gustafson (Ray), and Diana Kidd (Robert Moon); brother Bruce Kidd (Peggy); two grandchildren, Michael Casey and Rakshana Sundara; and two great grandchildren, Reagan and Addie Casey.

Two vehicle accident in Henry County

On May 19th around 2:15 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Henry County along with Henry County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a two vehicle accident in the northbound lanes of Missouri 13 Highway at route Z south of Deepwater.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2006 Hyundai driven by 63 year old Sherry L. Terry of Cross Timbers, Missouri was attempting to make a left hand turn and turned into the path of the 2007 Mazda driven by 22 year old Katherine J. Tinklepaugh of Monett, Missouri.

Both ladies were injured in this accident and both were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene of this accident by Gary's Tow of Clinton.

Thunderstorms are again expected this afternoon into tonight. The heaviest rainfall is again expected across eastern Kansas and western Missouri where 1 to 2 inches of rainfall will be possible which may lead to localized flash flooding. The additional rainfall will continue to lead to rises on the areas already swollen rivers, creeks, and streams. Severe weather is not anticipated. Fortunately, as we head into this weekend precipitation chances drop off. #LightAtTheEndOfTheTunnel

Obituary - William Joseph McGowen

William Joseph McGowen, 75, Harrisonville, MO, passed away Monday, May 17, 2021 at Lee’s Summit Medical Center in Lee’s Summit, MO. No services are scheduled at this time.

William was born August 25, 1945 in Kansas City, MO, a son of Willard Robert and Lela May (Davis) McGowen. He attended Rodman #128 Rural School from 1951-1956 and graduated from Harrisonville High School in 1963. He graduated with a BA from Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, MO in 1967.

He was a lifelong resident of Harrisonville. William was a U. S. Air Force veteran. He had worked for the IRS until retiring on December 31, 2011.

William was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, sister-in-law, Mary McGowen, and two brothers-in-law, James Coons and George Thompson. He is survived by two brothers, Robert McGowen (Rita) and Richard McGowen, both of Harrisonville, MO; two sisters, Mary Thompson, Indianola, IA; Margaret A. Coons, Chariton, IA, and several nieces and nephews.
