Obituary - Linda “Kay” Karen Jenkins

Linda “Kay” Karen Jenkins, 78, Archie, MO, passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at her home in Archie. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 29, 2021 at the Adrian United Methodist Church in Adrian, MO with burial to follow in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian.

A complete obituary will be posted when information is available.



In case you missed it...

 While it sounds like it should be the title of an old Vincent Price movie, there was a Blood Moon last night followed by a spectacular full lunar eclipse. Clouds made viewing difficult for some, but fortunately Donna White of rural Bates county got a few photos of the event as seen here. 

If you missed it, the next full lunar eclipse will happen May 16, 2022.

The Clinton Police Department could use some help locating this little girl's parents.  She was found wandering around in the area of Clinton and Orchard Streets within the last 20 minutes by a concerned citizen.

Heads up Henry County be on the lookout

Kevin Lee Thornburg, age 32, is still wanted on an active felony warrant for a parole violation (original charge of 2nd degree burglary), which was issued on January 8, 2021, as well as other municipal warrants, and is still being considered a person of interest and needed for questioning regarding his knowledge into the April 23, 2021, shooting incident which occurred on SE 250 in the Coal area.

Happening now a Positive sighting of Kevin Thornburg in the area of SE 701 and SE 751 in the Coal area walking in open fields.

Thornburg remains a fugitive and has active warrants...if seen do not approach...call 911!

Obituary - Doris Jeanne Zurita

Doris Jeanne Zurita, age 93, of Grandview, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 22, 2021.

A visitation will be held at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 27, 2021 followed by a Rosary. On Friday, May 28, 2021 Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. at Coronation of Our Lady Catholic Church, 13000 Bennington Ave, Grandview, MO 64030, followed by a graveside service at Belton Cemetery, 710 S Scott Ave, Belton, Missouri 64012.

Doris was born in Amarillo, Texas to Raymond Sanford and Annie (Crawford) Sanford on January 11, 1928. After high school, Doris attended some college in Amarillo. She took 10 years of piano lessons and had several recitals. Her father died when she was 16 years old. The family eventually moved to Oklahoma City, OK where she worked as a legal secretary. While in Oklahoma City she used to attend the Friday night dances at the local YWCA. This is where she met her husband Manuel “Tony” Zurita, a native Venezuelan who was in Oklahoma going to college. They wed on December 23, 1949 and immediately left for Venezuela, where she won the hearts of Tony's 7 sisters. She learned Spanish and learned to cook typical Venezuelan foods. Together they were blessed with three children and lived in Venezuela for almost 50 years. They eventually moved to Lake Placid, FL and spent the last 10 years living with their daughter and son-in-law in Grandview, MO. In life Doris was a lover of people, a true social butterfly who enjoyed visiting with people from all walks of life. She had stories to no end with an incredible memory for detail. She was a huge animal lover and especially loved cats. In her last 15 years of life she had 2 Persians, Cream Puff and Sweet Pea.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Annie Sanford; and brother Jerry Sanford.

She is survived by her loving husband of over seventy-one years, Manuel “Tony” Zurita; two sons, Michael Zurita and Jeffrey Zurita (Laura); daughter, Nikki Combs (Mick); six grandchildren, Fr. Timothy Mary Combs O.P., Maria Gonzales, Chris Combs (Maria), Pat Combs, Amanda Zurita, and Matthew Zurita; four great grandchildren, Maya, Penelope, Julia, and Claire, and many nieces and nephews.
