Obituary - Linda “Kay” Karen Jenkins
A complete obituary will be posted when information is available.
In case you missed it...
While it sounds like it should be the title of an old Vincent Price movie, there was a Blood Moon last night followed by a spectacular full lunar eclipse. Clouds made viewing difficult for some, but fortunately Donna White of rural Bates county got a few photos of the event as seen here.

Doris was born in Amarillo, Texas to Raymond Sanford and Annie (Crawford) Sanford on January 11, 1928. After high school, Doris attended some college in Amarillo. She took 10 years of piano lessons and had several recitals. Her father died when she was 16 years old. The family eventually moved to Oklahoma City, OK where she worked as a legal secretary. While in Oklahoma City she used to attend the Friday night dances at the local YWCA. This is where she met her husband Manuel “Tony” Zurita, a native Venezuelan who was in Oklahoma going to college. They wed on December 23, 1949 and immediately left for Venezuela, where she won the hearts of Tony's 7 sisters. She learned Spanish and learned to cook typical Venezuelan foods. Together they were blessed with three children and lived in Venezuela for almost 50 years. They eventually moved to Lake Placid, FL and spent the last 10 years living with their daughter and son-in-law in Grandview, MO. In life Doris was a lover of people, a true social butterfly who enjoyed visiting with people from all walks of life. She had stories to no end with an incredible memory for detail. She was a huge animal lover and especially loved cats. In her last 15 years of life she had 2 Persians, Cream Puff and Sweet Pea.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Annie Sanford; and brother Jerry Sanford.
She is survived by her loving husband of over seventy-one years, Manuel “Tony” Zurita; two sons, Michael Zurita and Jeffrey Zurita (Laura); daughter, Nikki Combs (Mick); six grandchildren, Fr. Timothy Mary Combs O.P., Maria Gonzales, Chris Combs (Maria), Pat Combs, Amanda Zurita, and Matthew Zurita; four great grandchildren, Maya, Penelope, Julia, and Claire, and many nieces and nephews.
