Johnson County Sheriff's Department seeking public assistance

On February 3, 2021, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office initiated a burglary investigation, located on SE 13 Highway, near Leeton.

The property owner drove up on two individuals leaving their residence. The victim advised the suspect vehicle fled north on 13 Highway, and identified it as a blue-colored, older model, Hyundai Santa Fe, bearing Missouri registration ZA0Y8N. The attached photographs are of this vehicle and were taken by the victim.

The victim described one male as heavier set, with brown hair, facial hair, and had a stocky build wearing a hooded jacket and blue jeans. The other was tall and skinny also wearing a black hooded jacket and jeans. Surveillance footage, obtained from the Leeton Casey’s General Store, reveals both men at the cash register, near the time of the burglary.

Nevada Aquatic Center delayed opening

The season opening of the Walton Aquatic Center, 400 E Atlantic Street in Nevada is being delayed a week.

The pool painting and sandblasting is behind schedule due to the past several weeks of inclement weather and other maintenance issues.

The opening date is tentatively scheduled for Monday, June 14, 2021 at 1:00PM and may be subject to change. Lifeguards are hired and staff will be working on cleaning and preparing the pool for opening day.

Due to the delay Season Passes will be pro-rated and Free Swim Days will be offered. Once we have a firm opening date, discounts season passes will be offered for sale.

Daily admission is $4 for those age 3 or older under 2 are free. Information on passes and booking pool parties is available by calling 417.448.5110

Obituary - Bonnie Lou (Davis) Heath

Bonnie Lou (Davis) Heath, 88, formerly of Schell City, MO passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Nathan Richards Health Care Center in Nevada following a short illness. Bonnie was born October 23, 1932 in Schell City, MO to Roy and Daisey (Robinson) Davis. She married James W. Heath in January of 1950 and was later married to Gerald Harms.

Bonnie grew up in Schell City and attended Schell City High School. She worked at the shirt factory in El Dorado Springs for a time then as an LPN at Nevada State Hospital and later at Nevada City Hospital. Bonnie loved being with her family, but especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include one son, Jerry Heath (Lynn), Harwood, MO; four grandchildren, Dana Compton (Marty), Lamar, MO, Danae Cooper (Derick), Osage Beach, MO, Destin Heath (Jennifer), Broken Arrow, OK, Jessica Glover (Donald), Manville, TX; 12 great-grandchildren; two stepchildren, Maria Morris, William Morris; two step-greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Dixie Huffman, Rockville, MO, Betty Jo Souza, Schell City, MO; and one brother, Larry Davis (Connie), Schell City, MO. She was preceded in death by her husband, James; four sisters, Mary Ellen Maus, Lavonna Majors, Clara Miller, and Wanda Davis; three brothers, Sonny Davis, Dean Davis, and Butch Davis.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at the First Baptist Church in Schell City, MO with Pastor Doug Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery in Schell City. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1 at Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home in Schell City.

Henry County Sheriff's warns of phone scam

The Henry County Sheriff's Office received information about a SCAM where the caller is stating they are from the Collectors Office and you need to pay for a law suit that is being filed. 

THIS IS A SCAM. Hang up and do not give any information to these people. The Collectors Office does not conduct this type of calling.

Obituary - Robert Loren Strotheide

Robert Loren Strotheide, age 51, of Garden City, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, June 1st, 2021 in Clinton, Missouri. Robert's wishes were to be cremated. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. Fond memories and condolences can be left online at www.vansant-millsfuneralhome.com.

Robert Loren Strotheide was born on April 5th, 1970 to Robert Lee and Barbara JoAnn (Taylor) Strotheide in Findley, Ohio.

Robert was a member of the Heart of Life Church in Garden City, Missouri and was a self-employed floor finisher for over 20 years. He loved to ride his Harley and was a collector of Rusty Gold. Robert loved his grandkids and loved being outside and loved to go fishing and work around his property. He would do anything to help anyone when they needed it.

Robert is preceded in death by his father Robert and stepmother Bonnie Sue Strotheide, his mother Barbara and stepfather Carroll Lanie, and Brother Jim Brown.

He is survived by his wife Waynette of the home, his son Wes and wife Krystal of Grandview, Missouri, daughter Felecia Strotheide of Kansas City, Missouri, 4 brothers; Ryan Strotheide, Reid Strotheide, Jerry Strotheide and Stacey Brown, 8 sisters; Chelly, Robbin Rice, Corky Ragan, Annette Hays, Raelyn Traster, Christa Cook, Raven Keys, Robbin Williams, 3 grandchildren; Aalyah Strotheide, Brayden Stegner, and Adilyn Strotheide, and a host of family and friends.

Harrisonville man injured in Cass County Crash

On June 2nd around 6:00 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a two vehicle accident at Missouri 7 Highway and 227th Street in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2001 Toyota Rav-4 driven by a 16 year old female juvenile from Harrisonville failed to yield at a stop sign and struck the 2013 Harley Davidson driven by 62 year old Gary R. Harvey of Harrisonville.

Gary R. Harvey sustained moderate injuries and was transported by ambulance to Belton Regional Medical Center for treatment.
