Butler Urgent Medicine officially open

The ribbon is cut and the doors officially open at Butler Urgent Medicine "Care on the Square" at 9 N. Coming up this weekend June 12th!

With Bushwhacker weekend going on in town, Nevada Speedway will be hosting a $500 to win Pure Stock race! Feature event will be 20 Laps! 🏁🏁🏁

There will be an extra $5 fee at the gate for Pure Stock drivers on Saturday, making pit passes $40.

Guaranteed payout will be
$500, $300, $200, $100, $70, $65, $60, $55, $50, $45, $40 to start!

Update: Female dies from injuries in Cass County officer involved shooting

Cass Co –At approximately 1539 hours June 7th, Cass County Sheriff's Deputies and MSHP Troopers were dispatched to the 300 block of Lake Road, Garden City for a welfare check.

Upon their arrival to the residence, deputies observed a female on the front porch of the residence with a firearm in her hand. Deputies gave numerous commands to drop the weapon, however as the female pointed the firearm at the deputies, one deputy fired his service pistol, striking the female in the torso.

The female was transported by Garden City Emergency Services with critical injuries to a local hospital for medical treatment.

The Western Missouri Sheriff’s Office Critical Response Team, composed of deputies from Cass, Henry, and Bates, are investigating the shooting.

*Update* The female victim who passed away as a result from her injuries at a local hospital has been identified as Ms. Crystal R. Guhr, 42, of Garden City, MO.


Obituary - Julia Belle Carpenter

Julia Belle Carpenter, 93, Nevada, MO passed away on Monday, June 7, 2021.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 11, 2021 at the Pentecostal Assembly Church in Nevada with Pastor Dennis Engelbrecht officiating. 

Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery in Nevada. The family will receive friends from 6-7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at Ferry Funeral Home.

Shirley Whitehouse, 93 formerly of Drexel, Missouri passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at Louisburg Healthcare and Rehab in Louisburg, Kansas. Cremation, with private family inurnment services to be held at a later date.

One vehicle rollover accident sends 16 year old Drexel teen to the hospital

On June 8th around 2:00 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on AA Highway just east of CR 12001.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2009 Toyota Camry driven by a 16 year old female from Drexel ran off the north side of the roadway, driver overcorrected causing the vehicle to travel off the southside of the roadway, striking a embankment and overturning.

The 16 year old juvenile sustained minor injuries in this accident and she was transported by private vehicle to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene of this accident by Adrian Tire. 


Obituary - Ruby V. Kibler

Ruby Kibler, 76 of Adrian, Missouri passed away Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler, Missouri. Cremation, with Celebration of Life Services scheduled for 5:00 pm Sunday, June 13, 2021 at the Adrian City Park. Arrangements entrusted to Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler (660-679-0009). Ruby V. Kibler was born November 29, 1944 in Amsterdam, Missouri to Charlie and Helen Kendrick McQuinn. Ruby worked for many years for Western Electric and then 3M before retiring. After retirement she worked part time at the B&P convenience store in Harrisonville, Missouri. Ruby enjoyed the small things in life, when she wasn’t working, she could be found at the nearest fishing hole enjoying her favorite hobby. She also liked to read and put together puzzles, but nothing kept her from rooting on her KC Chiefs and Royals.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her sons, Mike McQuinn and wife Lisa, Terry Holmes and wife Robin, and Darren Moore. She also leaves behind two grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, her brother Dewey McQuinn, sister Patsy Page, along with nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
