Name released in last weeks police pursuit

***Update***
On 6/3/21 a deputy stopped a vehicle that was reportedly possibly stolen. A MULES check of the plate showed the plate that was displayed was not on file. A MULES check of the female driver showed that she had a $300 warrant out of Butler.

As the two deputies made contact again with the female in an attempt to arrest her on the $300 warrant, the female took off from the traffic stop in the vehicle. As she speed away her vehicle struck a deputy that was talking with her through the window while standing to the front of the drivers door.

The vehicle pursuit entered Cass County on I49. The pursuit continued north until just south of Peculiar where the female turned into a crossover and started traveling northbound in the southbound lane. The vehicle eventually turned back south bound where Cass County Sheriffs Office units were able to use the Grapple System to bring the vehicle to a stop at the weigh scales in Harrisonville.

One female was taken into custody, Identified as Veronica B Roberts from Eldorado Springs Missouri, and then transported to the Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment for injuries she sustained from the incident. The female was released from the hospital where she was booked into the Bates County Jail.

During a subsequent interview with the female she stated that she ran because she thought she had multiple warrants from multiple locations for burglary. The female was sought by St. Clair County Sheriff's Office as a suspect for burglaries involving a stolen weapon. She has been subsequently charged with Burglary out of St. Clair County and a warrant has been issued for her.

Ms. Roberts was charged in Bates County with Felony Second Degree Assault and Felony Resisting Arrest/Flee to Elude. Bond in Bates County was set at $29,500.00.

The vehicle was towed from the scene by Southland Tow. Other assisting agencies were the Adrian Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Harrisonville Police Department, Harrisonville Fire Department and Central Cass County Fire Department.


Police Pursuit in rural Adrian

On 6/7/21 BCSO Deputies were advised that the Adrian Officer was in pursuit on 18 highway west of Adrian. Deputies responded to the area to assist in the pursuit. The pursuit continued throughout the west side of rural Adrian.

During the pursuit the vehicle was spiked by the Highway Patrol. Shortly after the vehicle was spiked the vehicle came to a stop and the driver exited the vehicle and ran into a wooded area. The Bates County K9 unit arrived and began to track the subject from the last area the subject was seen.

A short time later the K9 apprehended the subject hiding in the brush. The subject was taken into custody and transported to the Bates County Jail where he was placed on a 24 hour hold. Charges are pending.


Residential Burglary in rural Rich Hill

On 6/8/2021 Bates County Deputies responded to rural Rich Hill area around County Road 6007 in reference to a residential burglar alarm. On arrival the Deputies found the house unsecure and found a trail of coins and dollar bills leading from and upstairs bedroom to the front door. The trail also led from the front porch to the driveway where it was apparent that a getaway vehicle was sitting.

Deputies began a search of the area and made contact with two subject in a vehicle within a mile from the residence. During the contact the two subjects had inconsistent stories with the deputies. A search of the vehicle revealed a backpack full of coins and crimpled bills consistent with the coins and bills found in a trail leaving the residential burglary.

Again, the driver and passenger had different stories about the backpack and its origins with the driver finally stating that the back pack was his 78 year old grandfathers. Contact was made with the grandfather who stated that when he loaned the vehicle to his grandson there were no bags in the vehicle.

The driver initially identified himself by providing a fake name to the deputies and offered to show the deputies where he picked up the passenger. The passenger stated he hasn't known the driver very long and state he only knew him by a street name.

The driver was unable to relocate the farm and was returned back to the scene where he was advised that the deputies had properly identified him and that he had multiple warrants. The Driver was identified as Harlan A Boonstra, 10/30/96 out of Butler Missouri. The driver was arrested on his four outstanding warrants. Boonstra was wanted on two warrants for failure to appear for burglary and stealing more than $750. Two warrants for Possession of a controlled substance and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. His bonds were set at $29,000. He was transported to the Bates County Jail.

The passenger was identified as Zachery J Handly, 4/21/94 out of Butler Missouri was also arrested and transported to the Bates County Jail. On 6/1/2021 Bates County Detectives working jointly with Adrian PD started conducting a criminal investigation into Handly for a Burglary involving theft of a trailer loaded with misc items and a motorcycle. Charges are expected to be filed on that investigation within the next couple days.

On 6/9/2021, both Boonstra and Handly, were charged with Burglary in the 2nd degree and stealing over $750. Bonds were set at $20,000 each.



Possible gas leak in Butler

The Butler Fire Department along with Butler Police are on scene of a possible gas leak in the 600 Block of North Fulton Street at this time.

Frozen Food Express officially welcomed today

In a formal ceremony this morning Frozen Food Express was officially welcomed to Butler by Governor Mike Parson, Mayor Jim Henry and FFE CEO Jim Richards. Also present were other officials including Bates county commissioners Ken Mooney, Trent Nelson, Jim Wheatley and Representative Patricia Pike.

Governor Parson welcomed everyone  with assuring words that Missouri and especially Butler will serve FFE quite
well. Parson reinforced that our state not only has stayed strong throughout the pandemic,  but is one of the few states that saw growth in terms of industry and jobs over the last year. In his opinion, Missouri provides the perfect environment for businesses such as FFE.

FFE CEO Jim Richards offered a warm thank-you to Butler noting that the facility will serve as a prime location and will eventually offer up to 100 jobs to our community. He also noted growth of FFE, now with 15 locations coast to coast and Butler as an optimum location right in the center.

Obituary - Barbara D. Meador

Barbara D. Meador, age 84, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2021.

A visitation will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 1111 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083. A memorial service will follow visitation at 6:00 p.m.

Barbara was born in Chanute, Kansas on May 3, 1937 to James Wayne Spencer Brandon and Ruby Erma (McDowell). After graduating high school Barbara went on to further her education. She worked most of her life for AT&T as a Customer Sales Service Specialist. Later working as a cashier at Wal-Mart in Harrisonville, Missouri. In life Barbara was a member of the Red Hat Club, loved spending time with her grandchildren and attending their sporting events. She was also a member for many years at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Raymore, Missouri.

Barbara was preceded in death by her loving husband, Phillip Joe Meador; and parents, James Wayne Spencer Brandon and Ruby Erma Brandon.

She is survived by her son, Larry Meador (Diana); daughter, Terri May (Gary), son Steven Meador; six grandchildren Jeremy Smith (Brionna), Brian Smith (Misty), Lara Velilla, Cynthia Cramer (Matthew), Jennifer Wolfe (Nathaniel), and Travis May (Mackenzie); fourteen great grandchildren, Kaitlynn, Faythe, Destiny, Alexander, Emma, Jayelin, Jaxon, Jacob, Penelope, Gunnar, Kinzie, Chance (Martha), Matthew, and Lily; and one great-great granddaughter, Aurora.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church as addressed above or the Alzheimer’s Association, 3846 W. 75th Street #4126, Prairie Village, Kansas 66208.
