Obituary - Terry Lee Hill

Terry Lee Hill, age 72, of Clinton, Missouri passed away Wednesday, June 9th, 2021. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at Vansant-Mills Chapel, Clinton with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow at Englewood Cemetery in Clinton. Memorial contributions to the Educational Fund for Torry Hill and can be left in care of the funeral home. Fond memories and condolences can be left online at www.vansant-millsfuneralhome.com.

Obituary - Carolyn A. (Cumpton) Stephens

Carolyn Anne Stephens of Harrisonville, Missouri was born March 18, 1944 in Kansas City, Missouri the daughter of Delbert Ivan and Margaret Edna (Huff) Cumpton. She departed this life on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at the Golden Years Care Services, Harrisonville at the age of 76 years, 10 months and 13 days.

On June 11, 1974, Carolyn was united in marriage to Albert Stephens in Miami, Oklahoma.

Carolyn was a dog breeder of Yorkies and Pekingese. She was a member of the Drexel Christian Church where she was a board member and the VBS director for many years. Carolyn enjoyed leading bible studies at the church, her home and at the nursing home. She was an avid Chiefs fan. Carolyn had lived in Drexel, Missouri before moving to Golden Years in 2015.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Stephens on May 3, 2012; two sisters, Marilyn Michael and Valla Cumpton.

Carolyn is survived by two daughters, Julie Osburn and husband Mike, Neodesha, Kansas and Chrystal Jones and husband Brett, Harrisonville, Missouri; 3 grandchildren, Brandi, Jordan and Jackson; 2 great-grandchildren, Brynlea and Breckin; other relatives and many friends.

Cremation. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2021 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville.

Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation.

Obituary - David Allen Greenlee

David Allen Greenlee, a beloved husband, father and grandfather, died on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at the age of 87.

David is survived by his wife, Peggy Greenlee; his son, Lyndon Greenlee and wife Pam; his grandchildren, Jennifer Greenlee and wife Marlene, Chadd Greenlee and wife Krista, Zachary Greenlee and wife Cristin, and Caty Hernandez and husband Anthony; and his 8 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Mildred Greenlee; his brother, Ralph Greenlee; and his eldest son, Robin Greenlee.

David was born February 23, 1934, in Horton, MO, where he was raised until he graduated from Rich Hill High School. He married Peggy Thompson on February 20, 1954. Together they owned the Nevada Speedway for 26 years where they made many lifelong friends. He was an entrepreneur at heart, and started many businesses, including a furniture store, a mattress store, and Greenlee Body Shop, where he worked with his son, Lyndon, for the past 40 years.

David lived a life of service. He served his country in the United States Army as a parachuter. He served the state of Missouri as a Fuel Auditor, and he served the Nevada community as a school bus driver and a member of the NRMC hospital board. He was an avid woodworker, he loved to read, and he loved spending time with his great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at Newton Burial Park on Monday, June 14, 2021, at 10 a.m.

Obituary - Roger N. Brackney

Roger N. Brackney, 73, of Peculiar, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 7, 2021, surrounded by his family.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 12th from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Drive Raymore, Missouri 64083. 

A memorial service will begin at 11:00. Following the memorial service, a private family burial will be held at Wills Cemetery in Peculiar, Missouri.

Roger was born in Sidney, Ohio on February 24, 1948, to Wilfred Brackney and Marjorie (Redinbo) Brackney. After graduating high school, Roger always had a job, whether it was working in a grocery store, doing mechanic work, or constructing metal buildings. Roger furthered his education as he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1967. Roger proudly served his country as a Flight Engineer and Lead Mechanic. Roger’s focus for 37 years was on the C-130 and A-10 Warthog. 

While serving his country, Roger received many decorations, medals, and badges. Some of them included the Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Accommodation Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, and Air Force Training Ribbon. Roger started serving his country at the age of 19 as an aircraft mechanic during the Vietnam War, and ended his career as a Master Sergeant after serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was also a part of the 442nd Fighter Wing which is an Air Reserve Component of the United States Air Force. He very much enjoyed the camaraderie he had with his fellow soldiers. Roger maintained his dedication after his service as he was a commander of the VFW 8220 in Belton, Missouri. He was also a life member of the VFW in Lincoln, MO. 

Roger was a member of the American Legion Post 0217 in Sidney, Ohio. One of the highlights of his life was traveling to Washington, D.C. on the Freedom Flight with his daughter, Michele. Roger traveled all over the world and in life he enjoyed fishing, yardwork, and spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and he loved his little girl, Tyke.

Roger was preceded in death by his loving grandmother, Mamie, Ivolou F. Miller and his father Wilfred Brackney.

Roger is survived by his mother, Marjorie Brackney; his wife Rosalie Brackney; children, Michele Crain (Bryce), Mike Brackney, Bill Cunningham (Shelly), Juline Norman (Robert), Jeff Cunningham (Andrea), and Christine Wilson (Chris); brother Ray Brackney (Sue); two sisters, Linda Valentine and Kay Lewis (Ray); eleven grandchildren, Bill Crain, C.J. Crain, Cory Cunningham (Becca), Cassie Shrock (Levi), Rebecca Dobson (Scott), Jake Norman, Jeffrey Cunningham (Julie), Gage Cunningham (Ashley), Megan Bloss (Justin), Josie Wilson, and Paul Wilson; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Obituary - Marian Arlene Wheeler

The funeral service for Marian will be held at Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 2:00 p.m.

Officiating at the service will be Pastor Tony Reynolds and Pastor Larry Wheeler. Visitation will precede the service between 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Shady Grove Cemetery in Racket, Missouri

The family requests memorial donations be made to Shady Grove Cemetery or Heartland Hospice and may be left at the funeral home.

Marian Arlene Jagger was born August 21, 1930 to Dwight Leroy and Ruth Anna (Campbell) Jagger in Brookfield, Missouri. Marian passed away peacefully at home on June 7, 2021. Marian’s early education was in the Avalon, Bedford, and Hale areas; however, she graduated from Central High School in Kansas City, Missouri in 1948. After the death of Ruth Anna on November 21, 1942, Dwight married Mamie Coon bringing stepbrother Dean and stepsister Mary Coon into the Jagger family.

Marian, being an accomplished pianist when she graduated from high school, went with her stepbrother and stepsister as they entertained troops in the Kansas City area. Marian accompanied Paul on many occasions for funerals, and special singing events, as well.

In 1954 Marian began taking dance lessons at Arthur Murray’s Studio and met the love of her life, Paul Wheeler. They not only became partners on the dance floor, but liked each other so well they eloped to St. Joseph, Missouri on November 27, 1955. A longer story goes with their elopement, ask their girls about the validity of their mom and dad’s marriage. Paul and Marian continued for many years ballroom, round, and square dancing, being charter members of the Apple Dumpling Square Dance Club for some 25 years.

Paul and Marian were blessed by the birth of Arleta Anne at Conley Clinic in Kansas City, Missouri on March 1959. Eighteen months later they were blessed by the birth of Anita Jane at the old Osceola Hospital in Osceola, Missouri on September 1960.

Marian was employed by Kansas City Power and Light when Montrose’s power plant was being built. After moving to the Osceola area, she was employed by Osceola Cheese, in the old building that sat in the area of the current boat ramp. She also worked for 25 years for Moran Harris, Attorney at Law in Osceola, several years for Zink Motor company of Appleton City, Hardee’s in Clinton, Missouri, Montrose Senior Center, and Sac-Osage Publishing retiring from Sac Osage Publishing in 2017.

Marian was preceded in death by her mother, father, stepmother, and stepsiblings. Survivors include her husband Paul; daughters: Arleta and Phil Godwin of rural Montrose, Missouri and Anita and Keith Gilmore of Appleton City, granddaughters: Audrey and Matthew Williams of Springfield, Missouri and Amanda and Jason Clough of Perry, Kansas; great-grandchildren include Lillian, Caroline and Gideon Williams, Caleb and Charlotte Cough.

Obituary - LaVon (Turnbull) Posey

LaVon Posey (nee Turnbull), 91 of Nevada, MO, completed her life’s journey and went to the Lord on Wednesday, June 9, 2021. Lavon was born September 16, 1929 in Monroe City, MO to Allyn Gardner and Ula Dilola (Jones) Turnbull.

LaVon was the loving and dedicated mother of five still-married children, Daphne (Ron) Barks, Tom (Debbie) Posey, Buff (Ray) Salassa, Kelley (Georgia) Posey, and Chris (Teri) Posey, ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews.

LaVon was a registered nurse for nearly forty-five years until she retired to Nevada, MO. She loved her family, many great friends and neighbors, and her beloved cat, Mr. Pook. LaVon will be cherished in our hearts forever.

Memorial service will follow at a later date. Those who wish may contribute to Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund or the Nevada Animal Shelter in care of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO.
