Roof damaged on Harrisonville Church

ATTENTION: Please avoid the area of W Wall Street and S Butler Drive, as severe weather has damaged the roof of Harrisonville First Baptist Church.

Thankfully, no injuries have been reported.

Please do not try to enter the area, as crews are actively working to clear debris and maintain public safety.

This is an important reminder about the potential dangers of severe storms. This was not the work of a tornado, but still caused very significant damage. 

Always make sure you and your family stay #weatheraware & have a severe-weather emergency plan in place.




Power Outage in Harrisonville

The outage has been caused by the strong storms that are moving into our area.

Obituary - Francis (Frank) K. Schultz

Francis (Frank) K. Schultz, age 73, passed away March 22, 2020, in Frisco, Texas, after a recent diagnosis of Glioblastoma (GBM) brain tumor cancer. Cremation with Graveside services to be 11:00 am Saturday, June 26, 2021 in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, MO.

Born on March 15, 1947 to Orlan F Schultz & Genevieve P Smith, Blue Springs, MO.

Frank attended Blue Springs High School and graduated with the class of 1965. He attended college at UMKC, Kansas City, MO, later transferring to CMSU, Warrensburg, MO, graduating in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He was active while on campus with CMSU Business Department organizations and related activities and Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity. Frank married Janelle Clark, of Butler, on March 6, 1971, at First Baptist Church, Butler, MO.

After living in North Kansas City, MO, for several years, the couple moved to St. Louis, MO, where their son, Neal, was born. Frank was co-owner of a floor covering retail store there for several years before becoming involved in sales and wholesale distribution with General Felt Industries working with many clients in the Midwest States and eventually continuing sales with the company in Florida. After 20 years in MO and FL the family moved to Dallas, TX for an opportunity to work for Redi Carpet, a nationwide company with sales and distribution for floor covering products to multi-family apartment builders, heading the Dallas, TX operation for 10 years until retirement. He worked the majority of his career, 40 plus years, in the Floor Covering industry and belonged to a number of professional organizations, earning many awards and achievements as well.

Frank was a golf enthusiast and enjoyed playing with his son, Neal and grandson, Austin, teaching him the game. He cherished time attending Austin's sports events, theater productions, and the other school events, and especially trips and family vacations made each year with his wife, and son's family. He also enjoyed attending car shows with friends. Frank enjoyed a long accomplished career that was only outmatched by his love for his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Genny & Orlan Schultz, Little Elm, TX; his mother- and father-in-law, Hap (Farroll) and Helen Clark, Butler, MO; brother-in-law Jerry Cook, Butler, MO. And nephew Brent Cook of Lee’s Summitt, Mo.

He leaves survivors of his wife, Janelle Clark Schultz, son and daughter-in-law Neal and Johanne Schultz and grandson, Austin, all of Frisco, TX; sister-in-law Gayle Cook, Butler, MO; niece Gina Cook & daughter Tess, Lee's Summit, MO; Brian & Dana Cook and daughters Bailey of Leawood, Ks & Brenna & husband Austen McGuire, Lawwrence, KS; family friend, Anthony Bennett, Frisco, TX; and a host of cousins in Missouri and Florida. Frank is also leaving very special

friends across Missouri, Texas, Kansas and Florida.


Obituary - Elizabeth D. Garrett

Elizabeth D. Garrett, age 86, of Frontenac, Kansas, formerly of Lamar, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, June 8th, 2021 at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, Kansas.

Elizabeth was born January 12, 1935 in Cherokee, Kansas to John Henry Humble and Nettie Louise (Howell) Humble. On June 28, 1952, Elizabeth married Gayle L. Garrett in Girard, Kansas.

Elizabeth was a homemaker. She was a member of the Friendship Needle Club and a member of Oakton United Methodist Church.

Survivors include four sons; Bill (Colleen) Garrett, Golden City, Bob (Juanell) Garrett, La Harpe, Kansas, Larry (Dawn) Garrett, Jasper, MO and Gerry Garrett, Lamar, MO, two brothers; Dale (Patsy) Humble, Calvin (Jo) Humble and one sister; Patricia Humble, all of Girard, KS, 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren.

Preceding Elizabeth in death were her husband Gayle and her parents.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, June 11, 2021, at Daniel Funeral Home with burial to follow in Girard City Cemetery, Girard, Kansas.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Friday, June 11, 2021 at the funeral home.

Contributions are suggested and made payable to TATS (Truman Area Transportation Service) in care of Daniel Funeral Home.


Severe Thunderstorm Watch Until 7pm

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Kansas City area. It will be in effect until 7 p.m.

Officer saves life in Cass County

On June 11th, 2021 at 1:21am Pleasant Hill Police officers along with Pleasant Hill Fire were dispatched to the area of 7 Highway and Short Rd on a single car motor vehicle accident.

Responding officers were advised that an occupant was trapped in the vehicle and the vehicle was on fire. Officer Dusty Hancock was the first to arrive on the scene. In the officers dash cam you can see the engine compartment engulfed in flames and starting into the passenger area.

Officer Hancock was able to free the victim and get them to safety prior to the vehicle becoming fully involved. We would like to thank Officer Hancock for his quick action in this situation.
