Walton Aquatic Center in Nevada set to open!

The Walton Aquatic Center, 400 E Atlantic Street is scheduled to open on Monday, June 21, 2021 at 1:00PM.

Season Passes will be available at the Walton Aquatic Center Admission desk starting Monday, June 21, 2021. New Season Pass rates will be announced after the City Council meeting on Tuesday, June 15, 2021.

Daily admission is $4 for those age 3 or older under 2 are free. Information on booking pool parties is available by calling 417.448.5110

Hot week weather wise

The warmest weather of the year so far is expected this week with highs in the 90s for folks throughout the week. Thursday looks to be the hottest day of week with highs in the mid to upper 90s. Humidity will also increase through the week with heat index values nearing 100 for Thursday. The next chance for any precipitation will come Thursday night into Friday.

Obituary - Tristan Ray Fillpot

Tristan Ray Fillpot was born on December 9th, 1997, in Nevada, MO to Floy Fillpot Wilson. Tristan was a man of many talents and loved by more than Tristan could ever know. He was accepting, bubbly, and willing to everyone he met. Everyone will agree that the biggest gift he could give was his presence. 

Knowing Tristan meant having a great and true friend. We are joined together in mourning the loss of a beautiful soul - Tristan Ray Fillpot.

Tristan is survived by his mother Floy, his stepfather Lorenzo, his father Norman Hess, his brothers Brandon, James, Keaton, Jasiyah, his sister Amber, his grandparents Carol Fillpot and Alfred Stewart, his aunts Nellie Fillpot, Karrie Fillpot and Terrie Ruffalo and Vince, his uncles John Fillpot Jr. and Jeanine, Tim Fillpot and Sarah, and Tristan's many many cousins. 

Tristan is preceded in death by his beloved grandfather John Fillpot, cousin John Fillpot III and great grandparents.

Obituary - Jerry William Burch

Jerry William Burch, 75, Walker, MO passed away on Friday, June 11, 2021.

Services for Jerry Burch will be held Thursday, June 17, 2021,1:30p.m. at the Nevada United Methodist Church with Dr. Bill Cox and Pastor Norman Conklin officiating. Burial will follow in Newton Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Wed., June 16, 5:00-7:00p.m. at Ferry Funeral Home. 

Memorials are suggested to the Schell City Alumni scholarship, the Vernon County 4-H GROW program, or the Vernon County Youth Fair and may be made in care of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO.

Arrest made in Rich Hill

On 06/12/2021 Officers with the Rich Hill Police Department were dispatched to the Rich Hill Memorial Library in reference to suspicious activity.

Upon arrival Officers were greeted by several subjects stating that a 61 year old Rich Hill man had come to the library to meet with a 13 y/o female that he was having a online sexual relationship with.

Officer's were then provided with printed online conversations between both the suspect and the victim where explicit messages were exchanged and the plan to meet was arranged.

After speaking with the suspect who stated that he was there to meet with the juvenile and admitted to having the online text conversations he was placed under arrest and transported to the Bates County Jail on a 24 hr. investigative hold.

A Statement of Probable Cause was completed and filed with the Prosecutor Hugh Jenkins office.

The Cass County Sheriff's Department has issued an Endangered SILVER Advisory for a missing adult incident that occurred at 10205 E 293rd, Freeman at 2:36 P.M. on 06/09/2021.

The endangered SILVER advisory missing adult is:

Otis Lee Ellis, a black, male, age 79, hgt 5' 11", 220 lbs, black hair, brown eyes, medium complexion, wearing unknown clothing. Unique characteristics:

Diagnosed Medical Condition(s): Dementia

Vehicle Information:

Teal 2006 Dodge Caravan bearing MO, EG7G2G last seen leaving the Cass County Sheriff's Department

Brief circumstances regarding the Endangered Silver Person incident

Mr. Ellis was served with an order of protection at the Cass County Sheriff’s office on 06/09/2021. Family and friends have been unable to contact him since that date. Mr. Ellis suffers from dementia and has left his cell phone at his residence.

Anyone seeing the missing person, suspect, associate, or vehicle, or anyone having any information related to the endangered missing person should immediately dial 911 to contact the nearest law enforcement agency or call the Cass County Sheriff's Department at 816-380-5200.

Drexel: Transformation complete


What was an old pin oak now is a beautiful piece of artwork featuring an eagle and it can be seen at 5th and Locust streets in Drexel. Artist Jason Morton completed the work over a span of a few days last week.

Updated Obituary - Christopher “Chris” Ray Ames

Christopher “Chris” Ray Ames, 43, Peculiar, MO, passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City, in Kansas City, MO. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Monday, June 14, 2021 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO with visitation from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon. Burial will follow in Garden City Cemetery in Garden City, MO.

Chris was born August 11, 1977 in Kansas City, MO, the son of Larry and Patricia (Hermon) Ames. He was a life-long resident of Peculiar, MO and was a graduate of Raymore-Peculiar High School. Chris was a self-employed painter, and had worked as a painter for Billy Bob Painting in Lee’s Summit, Garry’s Painting in Peculiar and Larry’s Painting in Grandview, MO. Chris was a member of the Harrisonville Community Center.

Chris was preceded in death by his father, his uncle Garry, and his grandparents. He is survived by a daughter, Mandelyn Ames, Peculiar, MO and her half-brother, Jacoby Johnson; his mother, Patricia Ames, Peculiar; a brother, Tom Ames, Belton, MO and his half-sisters, Bobbie Carson and Robin Ames.
