Obituary - Daniel Lynn Jenkins

Daniel Lynn Jenkins, 30, of Lamar, Missouri, passed on to his next adventure on Thursday, July 29, at his parent’s home with his family loving on him.

Dan was born August 29, 1990, in Springfield, Missouri, to Dennis Lynn Jenkins and Kathryn Mary (Finley) Jenkins. His family returned to Lamar in June 1991 and he graduated from Lamar High School in 2009. Dan was stoked to be a woodworker at Meek's Door Shop Production in Lockwood. He was a member of Sound Tribe Sector 9 (STS 9) family and was the founder of Hot Ham World Wide.

His path took many turns, with not all excellent choices, but enough good ones to form him into the complicated and compassionate human that he became.

He is survived by his parents, one sister, Alison Jenkins, and one brother, Nicholas Jenkins, all of Lamar, many friends across the nation, and, oh, hundreds of members of his STS9 family.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Fred and Jimmie Finley and Sherman and Oletha Jenkins, and his cousin Nathan Finley.

COVID has caused many ripples in our world and one of them was the necessity and opportunity for Dan to return to his hometown.

Being outdoors brought Dan peace and happiness. He decided his destiny was to live on the family’s 115 acres near Milford and he secured a very tiny house to pursue this path. He talked his parents into putting in water and he was looking at a bigger tiny house. Then, sadly, he fell ill.

Even when things were bleak and others may have lost hope, he never did. He was 100% obstinate and 90% respectful. He went out on his own terms, and he pretty much did things his way.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at Daniel Funeral Home.

Contributions may be made to Nathan’s Place or charity of choice in care of the funeral home.

Osage Valley Electric Cooperative warns of scam!

Unfortunately this scam just doesn't seem to go away. We have recently had an increase in calls reporting that they have received a call claiming they are from the electric utility and that service is due to be disconnected soon if payment is not received immediately.

One caller even report someone knocking on their door demanding payment. OVEC employees will never ask for credit card information over the phone or in the field.

Always call our office to confirm. Be sure to call our phone number (660-679-3131) and not one provided to you by the caller.

Motorists Are Reminded To Watch For Students!

Students across Missouri are preparing to begin their 2021-2022 school year. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reminds drivers to be vigilant always, but especially near school zones, playgrounds, bicycle paths, and crosswalks when schools are in session. Expect pedestrian and bicycle traffic to increase near schools on days where the weather is good. When schools are in session, drivers should expect a change in traffic patterns ─ school buses and parents taking their children to school and many young drivers will join other motorists on the road and affect the morning and afternoon commute. Whatever route you drive, expect this additional traffic and prepare by allowing extra time to reach your destination.

In 2020, no one was killed in traffic crashes involving school buses; however, 152 people were injured. In Missouri last year, 453 traffic crashes involved school buses. Parents are encouraged to talk to their children about riding a bus, walking, or driving to school in a safe manner. If they ride a bike, please make sure they wear a helmet and follow traffic laws.

Missouri law states that on a two-lane road, if a school bus is stopped and displaying warning signals while loading or unloading children, drivers must stop when meeting and following the bus. However, it is only necessary to stop on a four-lane highway when following the bus. Drivers, when you see a stopped school bus, stay alert and follow the law. Children may not be aware of traffic and dart unexpectedly into the roadway.

Most traffic crashes involving young drivers (under the age of 21) occur between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., when school typically lets out. Many of these drivers are young and inexperienced. Parents: It is important to encourage those young drivers to remember driving is a full-time job. Using a cell phone, texting, or adjusting the radio can be the distraction that leads to a traffic crash. Texting is against the law for anyone under the age of 22. Every driver needs to be aware of the increased traffic during this time—and not just in areas around schools. Some of these young drivers are headed to an after-school activity or going to work.

Too many people die in traffic crashes each year in Missouri. The choices you make when you’re behind the wheel matter. Make good choices, so you’ll never have to say, “If I could just go back …”
