Heads up to the City of Archie

The City of Archie will be shutting off the water from Delaware Street to Sliffe Road to locate a known leak on S. Butcher Road.

The outage will be as minimal as possible, beginning at 8:30am today, 8/5.

Weekend Heat Lurks

We have a few showers out there this morning and we will have another round of widely scattered showers and perhaps a couple isolated thunderstorms this afternoon and evening to help keep temperatures in the low to mid 80s. However, those dog days of Summer are lurking for this weekend as the heat builds back into the area.

Expect highs in the low to mid 90s with heat index values in the upper 90s to mid 100s. Stay cool out there! Now, let us go we have to find something to keep #TeamDayShift from getting too grumpy...that chocolate chip cookie bit was a great diversion yesterday!

Missouri Senator Rick Brattin pushes for special session to stop Covid-19 Vaccine mandates

JEFFERSON CITY — Sen. Rick Brattin, R-Harrisonville, sent a letter to the governor this week urging him to call an extraordinary session of the Missouri Senate and House to consider legislation to protect Missourians from COVID-19 vaccine mandates.

“It’s become clear that some businesses and institutions around this state are dead set on forcing the vaccine on Missourians against their will,” Sen. Brattin said. “The people of Missouri can and should decide for themselves if taking a drug that even the FDA hasn’t fully approved is what is best for them and their families. Employers shouldn’t make that decision, nor should big business, and certainly not politicians.”

The letter comes in response to a number of health care facilities and other businesses forcing workers to be vaccinated by a specified date or be fired from their jobs. Senator Brattin was joined by several of his colleagues in the Senate, who also signed the letter, asking the governor to “call an extraordinary session at your earliest convenience so the General Assembly can take any and all appropriate steps to protect Missouri workers from vaccine mandates.”

“Forcing anyone to take an experimental drug is wrong. It violates some our most basic rights as Americans and Missourians,” Sen. Brattin said. “We need to do something about it, and we need to do it now before people are forced out of their jobs. It’s our job as the elected representatives of the people to safeguard the freedom and liberty of the people we work for, and I can’t think of anything more urgent and important than protecting them from forced vaccination.”

Senator Brattin represents the 31st Senatorial District, covering Barton, Bates, Cass, Henry and Vernon counties. Senator Brattin resides in Harrisonville with his wife, Athena, and their five children.

Mission accomplished: Now to pay it forward

A few months back, FM 92.1 radio station and Mid America Live teamed up to help promote a fundraiser for Diana Taylor (standing) to raise funds to transition her book Life Unarmed My Story to a screenplay. Taylor was four years old when she was electrocuted by over 7,000 volts- and as she barely clung to life, her parents were advised to plan a funeral. However, through the grace of God, she survived and 50 years later was approached by a company who wants to put her story on the big screen. To cover some of the upfront and incidental costs of $4,617.90, our community not only met but exceeded that amount by $815.00. Today, Taylor gifted the excess funds to the Carpenter's Cup as seen here. Mid America Live and 92.1 will provide updates as work on the screenplay advances.
