Obituary - Dane H. Schellman

Funeral Services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Prairie City, Missouri on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.

A visitation will be held an hour preceding the service beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Pastor Joel Meyer will be officiating the service.

Interment will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Prairie City, Missouri immediately following services.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Zion Lutheran Church.

Dane Hirni Schellman was born on October 2, 1937 the son of August Michael Henry and Alma Adelaide (Hirni) Schellman. He went to live with his Heavenly Father on August 18, 2021 in Appleton City, Missouri at 83 years of age. He grew up in the Prairie City area, graduating from Rich Hill High School in 1955. Shortly after graduation, Dane began a long and passionate life of farming as well as working at Schreiber Foods INC for 30 years.

Dane married Fran Snethen on January 12, 1964, to this union four children were born: Tammy, Gary, Jeanine, and Shelli. His family was the most important thing in his life, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Apart from this, he loved going on drives, farming, and anything outside. One of his favorite hobbies was attending tractor pulls. Dane also enjoyed the fall weather and beautiful colors of the leaves. He was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church all of his life. He will be deeply missed by his many family and friends.

Dane was preceded in death by his parents, August Michael Henry and Alma Adelaide (Hirni) Schellman; his wife, Fran Snethen; a sister, Joan Schellman; one nephew, Rodney Bracher; and a brother-in-law, Leroy Bracher.

He is survived by his children: Tammy Algiere, Gary (Sherri) Schellman, Jeanine (Philip) Snider, Shelli (Mark) Disselhoff; grandchildren: Heather, Danille, Kendall, Nick, Hannah, Jorden; and 7 great-grandchildren; one sister, Sandra Bracher; a brother-in-law, John Snethen; along with many extended family and good friends.

Bates Co. Route B/Camp Branch & Panther Creek Bridges CLOSED Beginning Aug. 19t for Rehab Project

Bates County – Drivers should look for alternate routes when Bates County Route B at the Camp Branch and Panther Creek bridges north of Rockville CLOSE Thursday, August 19, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Contractor crews will remove the bridge decks/driving surfaces and replace them with a new surface and install new guardrail.

These bridges were built in 1976 and are experiencing increasing deterioration. Approximately 270 vehicles cross the bridges daily.

Both bridges are included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state.

Traffic impacts:

  • All lanes of Route B will be CLOSED beginning Thursday, August 19 for the duration of the project
  • Drivers will have access to entrances on either end of the work zone, but will not be able to drive through the work zone
  • No detour will be signed, drivers are urged to find alternate routes around the project
  • Signs and message boards will alert drivers to the bridge closing

Weather and/or scheduling conflicts could alter the work schedule.

This contract also included replacing the bridge deck/driving surface on the Bates County Route M bridge over the Osage River along with a culvert approximately one half mile to the north. That bridge was opened to traffic Wednesday, August 18.

Obituary - Kevin Dale Bright

Kevin Dale Bright, 58, passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at St. Luke’s North Hospital in Kansas City, MO. Kevin was born May 25, 1963 in Nevada, MO to Arlen & Betty (Starlin) Bright.

Kevin was raised in Nevada and graduated in the NHS Class of 1982. He worked in construction for a time and has worked at the 3M Nevada plant for the past 23 years. Kevin was an avid sports fan, especially dirt track racing, and the Kansas City Chiefs. He raced at the Nevada Speedway for many years. Kevin coached his children in various sports, whatever was in season, while they were growing up. One of Kevin’s passions in life was coaching youth sports and he touched the lives of many area youth, coaching little league baseball, football and basketball for over 30 years.

Kevin is survived by three sons: Darrick Crooks (Brooke) and their children, Baylor, Callen and Laken, Columbia, MO, Dakota Bright (Whitney), Austin, TX, and Payton Bright, Jacksonville, FL; his companion, Kathryn Zachary and her children, Kaeth and Steven, Nevada, MO; sisters, Lauri Lockwood (Dale), Nevada, MO and Marlen Byrd (Fred), St. Joseph, MO; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Sept. 17, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. at the Nevada Speedway.

Memorials are suggested to the Nevada R-5 Foundation for the Kevin Bright Memorial, to beused for clubhouse renovations at Lyons Field.


Obituary - Mary K. Parrish Vogel

Mary K. Parrish Vogel, 81, of Harrisonville, Missouri passed away Sunday, August 1, 2021 at her home in Harrisonville. A Celebration of Life Service will be held from 12:30-4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 22, 2021 at the Harrisonville Community Center.

Mary was born on October 3, 1939 to Jack and Ethyl (Clary) Parrish in Kansas City, Missouri. Mary devoted her life to her family and raising her children. She enjoyed going to the boats, but primarily was happiest spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mary is preceded in death by her father, Jack Parrish; her mother and step-father, Ethyl (Harvey) Kemper; her daughter, Brenda; her son, David; her sisters: Alberta (Don) Morehouse, Jackie James, and Elsie Parrish; and her brothers: Bob (Pat) Parrish, John (Dorothy) Parrish, Homer (Alvena) Parrish, and Les Parrish. She is survived by her husband, Ken Vogel; her children: John (Alex) Blackmon, Linda (Judy) Wheeler, Katherine Mitchell, Christina (Bill) Carroll, Deborah Blackmon, and Ronnie (Niki) Starforth; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and her siblings: Ron (Pat) Parrish, Shirley Wolfskill and partner, Bob, Patricia Heiman, and Tom (Carrie) Parrish.



MDC announces temporary closing of Clinton Office

Clinton Mo - The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has announced that the agency’s Clinton Office was closed to the public on Tuesday, Aug. 17, as a precaution against COVID-19. 

The office is scheduled to reopen to the public on Monday, Aug. 23.


Obituary - John Anthony Howe

John Anthony Howe, 32, of Harrisonville, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2021 at Mosaic Medical Center in St. Joseph, Missouri.


A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 29th from 3:00 – 9:00 pm at his mother, Wendy’s house, 27223 S State Route DD, Harrisonville, MO 64701.
