Dream Flights this morning at the Butler Airport

One of the most recognizable aircraft in history is the Boeing Stearman biplane aircraft which flew into the Butler Airport today for a special appearance.

It’s all part of a program called Dream Flights, which gives veterans and former fliers a chance to not only see this beautiful aircraft up close but includes a ride aloft for a chosen few.

Dream Flights has a total of six Stearmans in their company and are currently celebrating Operation September Freedom, providing rides to some 1,000 selected veterans in all 50 states in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the ending of WWII (note the celebration was delayed last year due to covid).

Luckily, Butler made the list of stops and on today August 31st, Harold Carey and Donald Radford, both of Butler, have been selected to take a ride.

Donald Radford who is a Army Veteran that served in WW2 made the flight today in the Stearman with pilot Andrew Lohman. Donald who is 98 years young enjoyed the flight as his family looked on in excitement. The family advised us that this was his first time in a plane.

When it came to 96 year old Harold Carey he elected to stay on the ground today and not make the flight. Harold who is a Army Veteran that served under General George S. Patton in WW2 and a Purple Heart recipient just wasn't up for the flight today.

Both signed the tail of the plane with a marker which is a memorial to all the vets who flew in the plane and part of the Dream Flights events. They was then joined for a photo with all military past and present that was on hand for today's event.

A huge thank you to Dream Flights and the Butler Airport along with Butler Fire Department, Butler Police Department for the escort to the airport and the wonderful staff of Medicalodge for making all this possible.

Missouri Electric Cooperative Crews are now in Louisiana

Hurricane Ida left a trail of damage and destruction along the Gulf Coast following its landfall on Sunday.

In response, Missouri’s electric cooperatives have mobilized to answer a call for help. At the request of DEMCO Electric Cooperative, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, more than 150 Missouri lineworkers from 30 of the state’s electric cooperatives are traveling to Louisiana to assist in the cleanup.

Missouri is sending both construction and service crews to help with the power restoration efforts at the co-op just east of Baton Rouge. Most of Missouri’s crews are leaving early Tuesday morning to help with the restoration efforts.

DEMCO is the largest electric cooperative in Louisiana, serving more than 112,000 members. As of Monday morning, more than 77,000 DEMCO members, 68%, were without electricity.
Missouri’s electric cooperatives have a long history of lending a helping hand to its cooperative peers in trying times.

Missouri crews first helped with hurricane relief efforts in 2004 when the Gulf Coast was hit by Hurricane Ivan and have been doing so since. Their most recent deployments were in 2020 when crews traveled to Louisiana twice for hurricanes Delta and Zeta.

The favor has been returned, as Missouri co-ops received assistance restoring power following devastating ice storms in 2007 and 2009.
Missouri’s restoration efforts are being spearheaded by the Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives. The Jefferson City-based association represents all 47 of Missouri’s electric cooperatives

Thank you!

We would like to take a moment to thank our local Archie Police Officer Turner and Officer Kennedy for helping out one of our local residence and getting a Air conditioning unit donated.
