Stolen catalytic converter theft ring busted in Central Missouri

On September 1st at approximately 1030 hours members of the Sedalia Police Department Criminal Investigations Bureau, Crime Resolution Unit, the Detective Sergeant from the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office and deputies from the Cooper County Sheriff’s Office conducted two search warrants in reference to an ongoing investigation into the theft of catalytic converters in the greater Sedalia area.

A search warrant was served at 508 W. Main St., a business allegedly purchasing catalytic converters to be recycled. During the search investigators found cutoff catalytic converters, the catalyst which had been removed from the catalytic converters, cash, and records. A search warrant was also served at 5162 Highway 135, Otterville. Investigators found cutoff catalytic converters stored outside and in a barn.

The investigation is ongoing but was a cooperative effort between law enforcement, the Pettis and Cooper County Prosecuting Attorneys, and the public providing valuable information to help with the investigation. A total of 107 cutoff catalytic converters were located at the two locations and seized by investigators. A typical catalytic converter is designed to last the life of the vehicle and it is unusual for the part to need to be replaced.

A special thanks to the Pettis and Cooper County Sheriff’s Office for assistance with this investigation.

In addition to the arrest and state charges, the business at 508 W. Main St. was determined to be in violation of Sedalia City Ordinance 36-96, Prohibition Against Maintaining a Nuisance Property. The business was posted with the notice of the violation, mandating the property owner to resolve the violations within 60 days.

Arrested were Robert G. Roland, age 48 of Otterville and Crystal Y. Roland, age 34 of Otterville. Both are being held at the Pettis County Jail on a 24 hour hold pending the filing of state charges for Felony Stealing and Failure to Keep Required Records and Registers of Purchase.


Structure Fire in rural Adrian

The Adrian Fire Department along with mutual aide assistance from the Butler Fire Department, Bates County Sheriff's Office and Central Cass Fire Department. Bates County EMS are on scene of a structure fire at a address of 8827 CR NE 12004 off of T Highway near Cloud Cemetery.

The fire is said to be in the attic of a the home at this time and everyone is accounted for.

We are reaching out to you today to inform you of a new case of COVID-19 at the Adrian School District. The individual was last present in the school on Tuesday, August 31, 2021.

The District is working with the Bates County Health Department to identify close contacts of the confirmed case. If a student or staff member has been determined to have been in close contact with this individual, you will be contacted with further instructions. If you are not contacted, there is nothing further you need to do at this time.

The District is taking all precautions, consistent with the CDC and Bates County Health Department. Due to privacy requirements, we cannot release the name of the individual or details that may identify them.

Appropriate cleaning and disinfecting measures are being taken, so there is no need to close our building for additional cleaning.

Obituary - Ann Connors-McWilliams

Ann Connors-McWilliams, age 83, of Osceola, Missouri passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton, Missouri. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM at Vansant-Mills Chapel in Clinton on Tuesday, September 7, 2021. 

Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 AM prior to the service. Followed by a graveside service with burial will be at 3:00PM at the Waverly Cemetery, Waverly, Missouri. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Luke's Hospital on Plaza and can be left in care of the funeral home.

Ann (Larkin) Connors-McWilliams was born on March 25, 1938 to John (Tiny) Larkin and Alice (Sowers) Larkin.

Ann joined the USAF in 1955 where she met and fell in love with Earl R Connors (now deceased) and married. Ann chose to leave the Air force to complete a family with Earl in 1957.

Ann was the first female Police officer in Lee's Summit, Missouri serving on the LS Police department reserves. (LATE 70'S). Ann worked for 30 years as a Loss Prevention officers for Wards and Ventures before retiring in the late 80's.

In the early '90's Ann choose to move from Lee's Summit to Osceola for her retirement. There she found many new friends and fell in love with the community. She enjoyed her Hummingbirds, her large ponds and all the deer that came to visit her pond.

As a country girl she loved fishing, boating and hunting. But Ann spent most of her days, cooking for anyone and everyone!

She traveled as often as she could with friends and family. Cruising brought her the greatest joy.

Proceeded in Death: parents, her siblings; Patricia Horton of Lees Summit, Missouri, Michael Larkin of Lexington, Missouri, Tere Larkin of Liberty, Missouri, son; Jon R Connors of Lowery, Missouri, Husband: James McWilliams

Survivors include her children; Glenn A Connors, Jennifer Connors-Kershaw & husband David, Michael S Connors, Clint P Connors and stepsons, Jim McWilliams, Ed & wife Anita, her brother Tim Larkin of Atlanta Georgia, 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.

Halliburton Earns Promotion

Will Halliburton, son of Chet and Tamara Halliburton of Butler recently received a promotion from Senior Airman to Staff Sergeant for his "impressive record of selfless service to the United States Air Force". Will is a 2016 graduate of Prairie View High School and is currently stationed at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma. 

El Dorado Springs pursuit enters Vernon County, suspect located by K9 team

A wanted subject is in custody after a vehicle pursuit by the El Dorado Springs Police Department ended in rural Vernon County early Monday morning. According to Sheriff’s Office Officials, the wanted subject was identified as 24-year-old Jessie Miller of Independence, Mo.

Chief Schiereck, of the El Dorado Springs Police Department said that while an officer was conducting a routine welfare check, the suspect fled the scene, causing minor injuries to one of his officers.

The pursuit entered into Vernon County, where Deputies responded for assistance. Deputies located the vehicle in a field to the South of 54 highway and 2100 road and deployed its K9 Unit. Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher said Miller was located by the K9 and taken into custody without incident.

Miller is being held in the Vernon County Jail for outstanding warrants for Burglary in the 2nd Degree, Possession of Controlled Substance, and Resisting Arrest on $10,000 bond. Additional charges are pending with the completion of the investigation.
