Obituary - Mary Ruth Martina Owens

Mary Ruth Martina Owens, born on August 3, 1998 in Honolulu, Hawaii as (Jessie Perry), passed away on Thursday September 2, 2021 at home in Belton, Missouri from an accidental overdose at the age of 23.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at St. Sabina Catholic Church, 700 Trevis Ave., Belton, Missouri 64012. A funeral Mass will be held following visitation.

As I’ve been here painfully writing about Mary and seeing the outpouring of love from family and friends; from the stories, pictures, and videos of how kindhearted she was, so loving and her loving generosity speaks volumes about the shining star she was. Mary was really a forced to be reckoned with lots of sass. I’d call audacious flair and spirit for life.

A graduate of Belton High School, she worked at Jose Peppers and became fast friends and won over the hearts of many. Loved and missed is such an understatement!

She was preceded in death by her mother Beverly E. Owens; grandparents, Mary Ruth Chaffin and Homer Chaffin, and Dean M. Duett and Babe Ruth Duett.

She is survived by her father William A. Owens; brother, Anthony Owens; second mother, Linda Peters all of Belton, Missouri; sister, Dena M. McCarty and brother in law James McCarty of Cape Fair, Missouri; many aunts, uncles, nieces nephews and cousins; biological family in Hawaii, birth mother, Evangeline Ku`uipoo Perry; three sisters, Katrina Villanueva, Myrissa Perry, and Krysha Belen; three brothers, Joshua Perry, Justin Perry, and Jody Perry.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be given to Guiding Light online at https://guidinglightworks.org/ or to Cullen Funeral Home to assist in funeral expenses.
