Obituary -Jesse E. Reid

Jesse Edward Reid, 32, of Blue Springs, Missouri, was born, February 6, 1989, in Overland Park, Kansas. He departed this life, Saturday, September 25, 2021, at his home.

He attended Center High School.

Jesse was a United States army veteran proudly serving in 82nd Sustainment Brigade in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom. During his time in the army, he earned the Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. Army Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Parachutist Badge, and the Parachute Rigger Badge.

Jesse was employed as a Union Electrician Journeyman. He was a member the IBEW Union Local #124. He enjoyed playing league pool and playing video games.

Jesse was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Holmes.

He is survived by his father and stepmother, Kenneth and Ona (Green) Reid of Pleasant Hill; his twin-sister, Angela Nicole Reid of Pleasant Hill; other relatives and friends.

Cremation has been accorded.

Obituary - Richard Lee Statler II

Richard Lee Statler II, age 58, of Raymore, Missouri, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 30, 2021.

Services will be scheduled at a later date.

Richard was born in Hugoton, Kansas on March 13, 1963 to Richard Lee Statler and Sara Jean (Miller) Statler. Richard graduated from Raymore-Peculiar High School in 1981 and continued his education briefly before working as an IT Technician for various banks. In life, Richard loved nothing more than spending time with his friends and family whether playing cards, watching the Chiefs, Nebraska Cornhuskers or just socializing. He was loved by many and enjoyed listening to his favorite artist LeAnn Rimes and spending time with his two dogs when he lived in California.

Richard was preceded in death by his long time life partner Ron Williams, maternal and paternal grandparents; and sister, Cheryl Knoche.

He is survived by his loving parents, Richard Lee and Sarah Jean Statler; brother, Gary Statler (Valerie); sister, Terri Finke (Richard); eight nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and nephews.

Two People Charged in Highway Shooting in Cass County

Cass Co – Two people were arrested and two others were hospitalized Friday night following a shooting between two vehicles on Interstate 49 near East 307th Street, south of Harrisonville.

Criminal charges were filed on Saturday by the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office against Kawnn M. Parrish 29, and Colleen Riley, 28, both of Grand Prairie, Texas.

Around 11:00 Friday night deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the area of northbound I-49 and E. 307th after receiving a call of two people being shot in a car while traveling north on I-49. Deputies received information that the second car involved in the incident continued traveling north on I-49.

When deputies arrived on scene, they found a vehicle with what appeared to be numerous bullet holes in the side of the car and two occupants with gunshot injuries. Three deputies arrived on scene and began providing medical attention to the victims until ambulances arrived from the Central Cass Fire Protection District and Harrisonville. The victims, a 20-year-old man and 17-year-old woman from Carthage were transported to a Kansas City area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Deputies located the second vehicle involved, traveling northbound on I-49 north of Harrisonville. Deputies with the Criminal Apprehension Unit stopped the vehicle using a Grappler device and took Kawnn Parrish and Colleen Riley into custody without incident. A juvenile in the vehicle was released to the custody of the Division of Family Services.

Kawnn M. Parrish and Colleen Riley were both charged with Unlawful Use of Weapon, 2 counts Armed Criminal Action, 2 counts Assault 1st Degree and Accessory Armed Criminal Action, and bond is set at No Bond. Both are in custody at the Cass County Jail.

One victim is still hospitalized and another has been released from the hospital.

Scattered showers continue tomorrow

Scattered showers and thunderstorms continue around the region. Heavier precipitation is expected to stay south of I-70. Rain lingers through early Sunday morning before clearing creating a beautiful Sunday afternoon.

Obituary - Roy Eldon “Bud” Taylor

Roy Eldon “Bud” Taylor, 88, passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021. Roy was born on December 27, 1932 in Nevada, Missouri, to Roy Ellsworth and Bertha Maude (Wilson) Taylor. He met Joy Ann Williams at the roller skating rink, and they were married on October 19, 1954 in Nevada, MO. She preceded him in death on August 12, 2013.

A lifelong resident of Nevada, Roy graduated from Nevada High School, class of 1950. He was drafted to Korea in 1953 and served in the U.S. Army March 31, 1953 - March 30, 1955. He raised his family on the farm where he grew up, operating the family farm and contributing to various building projects for Pohl and Bauman construction companies before forming and running his own construction company. A member of the Masons, he was a past Master of Osage Lodge #303. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church. In his retirement, he enjoyed coffee clubs at 54 Cafe and McDonald’s.

In addition to his wife, Joy, he was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Helen Gast, Marjory Gast, and Dorothy Tyer, and his great-granddaughter, Eliza Taylor Duckworth.

Survivors include his four children: Thomas Walter Taylor and his wife, Caroline, of Nevada, MO; Terri Webber Beam and her husband, Ken, of Millington, TN; Timothy Wayne Taylor and his wife, Anita, of Attica, IN; Tamara Susan Beach and her husband, Roger, of Nevada, MO.

Grandchildren: Lisa (Craig) Little, Amanda (Dan) Shipman, Brooke Taylor (David) Duckworth, Brandon (JoAnna) Taylor, Brandi (Trey) Todd, Bradley (Monica) Webber, and Rebekah (Charles) Lorewood. Grandchildren through marriage: David (Lindsay) Baxter, Barbie Baxter, Theodore (Tammy) Baxter, Susan Baxter, Sarah Johnson, Justin (Jacqueline) Thomas, Nick Thomas, Tammy Coker, Melissa Webber, Greg (Cammie) Beam, Tim (LaDonia) Beam, Alisha (Chris) Hill, Tina Beam, Tiffany (Stuart) McWilliams, and Jamie (Thomas) Short.

Great-grandchildren: Layla & Landry Pride, Linley Little; Caroline, Colette & Genevieve Duckworth; Curie, Kelvin & Turing Taylor; Mesa & Indi Todd; Paisley Webber; and Jorah Lorewood; Tyra, Jalah & Kenslee Baxter; Bella Baxter; Samuel & Sidrah Johnson; Haley & Brady Thomas; Alex & Bethany McWilliams; Bryce & Paige Goins, Alexis Dipman, Makenna, Morgan, Tommy, Samantha & Raelynn Short; Maria, Leigh Ann & David Beam; Joshua, Emily, Ashley & Jacob Beam; and Lora & Joseph Hill.

Survivors also include his sister, Margaret “Dottie” Scott, as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, and many dear friends.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Saturday, October 9 at 10:30am in the Deerfield Cemetery with Rev. Bob Beaver officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in care of Ferry Funeral Home to the Vernon County Youth Fair or Riverside Cowboy Church Rodeo Bible Camp.

Obituary - Bobbie Jean Bohannon

Bobbie Jean Bohannon, 98, of Harrisonville, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at St. Luke’s East Hospital in Lee’s Summit, MO. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 8th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 9th at 1:00 p.m. at Atkinson Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Urich Cemetery in Urich, Missouri.

Bobbie was born on September 1, 1923 in Urich, Missouri, the daughter of Robert Perry and Beulah Marie (Ashbrooke) Overbey. She grew up in Urich, graduating from Urich High School. Bobbie met the love of her life, Orley Nivel Bohannon, and they were married on June 21, 1942 in Flint, Michigan. They enjoyed 36 years together before his passing on March 6, 1979. Bobbie lived in Michigan and Kansas City before settling down in Cass County, spending most of her life in Harrisonville. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Harrisonville, then later Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, and lastly Antioch Southern Baptist Church.

Bobbie enjoyed reading, completing crosswords and jigsaw puzzles, and watching the Game Show Network, especially Jeopardy. She also had a love for baseball, whether it was watching her son, Larry, her grandkids, or the KC Royals, she likely would ask you to wait until the game was over to do other things, regardless of what it might be, including once when she wanted to postpone a surgery. She was a true matriarch and always put her family at the forefront, often found reading or playing games with her grandchildren, because she always had the time to give to them. Bobbie was blessed to be able to go camping with her daughters, Kay and Vicki, across the country to wherever they could set up their tent. This resulted in trips to over 40 states, the last one being when Bobbie was 87 and they camped throughout South Dakota. After she went into the nursing home, she began to enjoy sitting and watching her hummingbird feeders outside of her window. Bobbie will be missed by all those who knew her, but leaves behind many wonderful memories.

Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orley Nivel Bohannon; her sons: Larry Wayne and Jerry Lee Bohannon; her brothers: Marion Reed Overbey, William Stephen Overbey, and Max Eugene Overbey; and her sisters: Nadine Lucille Smith and Phyllis Madeline Edwards. She is survived by her daughters: Karen Kay Wallace and Vicki Sue (Rick) Mitchell; her 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Obituary - Jack E. Greer, Jr.

Jack E. Greer, Jr., 55, of Arkansas City, Kansas, passed away Wednesday evening, September 29, 2021, at the Kansas Medical Center in Andover.

Born August 15, 1966, in Olathe, Kansas, he was the son of Jackie and Mary (Stubbs) Greer. He was raised and received his education in the Olathe, attending Olathe High School, until moving with his family to Freeman, Missouri where he graduated from Midway High School in 1984.

Following high school, he purchased his own truck and began working as an over-the-road truck driver. He later worked in the construction field as a heavy equipment operator in eastern Kansas and Missouri. One day while hanging out with friends and “playing around” with a rope, Jack discovered his love for roping. That led to him becoming involved in team roping. While at a competition in Lawrence, Kansas, in 2008, he met Dana Nocero. The couple were united in marriage, in a barn, on horseback, on December 18, 2009. They made their first home in Louisburg, Kansas and moved several times with Jack’s work until settling in Arkansas City in 2019. In addition to team roping, Jack enjoyed going to the sand dunes with family and friends.

His family includes his wife Dana of Arkansas City; and his two daughters, Katlin Greer of Ottawa; and Emily Greer of Arkansas City.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, October 7, 2021, at the First Baptist Church in Arkansas City, under the direction of Miles Funeral Service.

A memorial has been established in Jack’s name for the National Kidney Foundation. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
