Obituary - Mary B. (Bre) Harrison

Mary Breanna Harrison age 42 of Peculiar, Missouri departed this life Monday, October 11, 2021 at Belton Regional Medical Center, Belton, Missouri.

The family will receive friends Saturday, October 16, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 2:30 at the Dickey Funeral Home with burial in the Peculiar Cemetery, Peculiar, Missouri.

Obituary - Debbie Ann Moore

Graveside services and inurnment for Debbie Graham Moore of Ada, Oklahoma will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler, Missouri under direction of the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler. Debbie Ann Moore, age 74 of Ada, Oklahoma died Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at Baptist-Integris Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was born March 1, 1947 to Carl Francis and Juanita Marie Horney Graham in Alva, Oklahoma.

Debbie is survived by two sons, Britt Johnson and fiancé Lisa Bodey of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Bryan Johnson and wife Banner of Durant, Oklahoma; one brother, Curtis Graham and wife Monina of Las Cruces, New Mexico; one sister, Nancy Baker and husband Jack of Butler, Missouri; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Preliminary hearing set for Nevada man charged with murder

On Friday October 15th at 10:00am a preliminary hearing will be held at the Vernon County Courthouse for Steven Sam Vignolo 62 of Nevada.

Vignolo who is charged with murder and armed criminal action in the shooting death of 32 year old Justin Goolsby last month at the Pilot Truck Stop in Nevada. 

Mr. Vignolo is being represented by Public Defender Josh Baseley and Vernon County Associate Judge Brandon Fisher will preside of the hearing.

Obituary - Edgar LeRoy Hymer

Edgar LeRoy "Tonk" Hymer, 84 joined his family in heaven on October 8th, 2021. Edgar was born in Metz, Missouri on February 18, 1937 to Phillip and Jessie (Church) Hymer. He attended school in Rich Hill, Missouri where he graduated high school. He joined the army after high school and spent most of his time in France.

He Married Rhonda Fyock in 1962. They lived in Fort Scott until 1967 when they moved to Independence, Mo. They lived in Independence a few years before moving to Raytown, Mo where he spent the rest of his life. Edgar worked for Sears and Roebuck for about three years before going to trade school. He went to mechanics school and radio repair school He became a communications engineer and worked for Commenco until he retired in 1991.

Edgar and Rhonda had two children, Kimberly and Mark. Kim and Brian, her husband, had 5 children, Holly, Amber, Megan, Zachary and Olivia Johnson. Mark and Buffy, his wife, had 2 children, Paige and Alison Hymer. He got the name "Tonk" from his grandkids. Nobody knows how but he was "Tonk". Edgar loved to haul the grandkids around everywhere. He has been to many baseball games, softball games, and dance and orchestra concerts. Edgar also loved horseshoes, Chiefs football, family dinners and playing cards in his spare time.

Edgar was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Jessie; and by his brother and sister, Robert and Dorsie.

He is survived by his two children: Son Mark Hymer and his wife Buffy of Dayton, Texas: and Kim Johnson and her husband Brian of Raytown, Missouri. 7 grandchildren: Paige and Cody Ostertag, Alison and Colt Pruitt, Holly Johnson, Amber and Judson Hulme, Megan Johnson, Zachary Johnson and Olivia Johnson; one great-grandson Oliver.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Heuser Funeral Home Rich Hill, Missouri. Burial will follow in the Green Lawn Cemetery.


Stealing in Appleton City

On Tuesday, October 5, 2021 a St. Clair County Sheriffs Deputy responded to a call for service in regards to stolen property in Appleton City. 

Upon making contact with the victim, he reported that his 2008 Gulfstream Camper was stolen sometime between September 30th and October 4th, 2021. 

A report was taken and evidence was collected by deputies. The investigation is still ongoing.


The Little Apple October 13th

Appleton City Landmarks will have their fall Potato Lunch on Thursday October 14 at the depot. Lunch will be available for carry out only between 11:00 - 1:00 for $7.00. Come and enjoy a large baked potato with the toppings you choose from their order slip. Your choice will be margarine, shredded cheese, nacho cheese sauce, onion, broccoli, sour cream, bacon bits and chili. The cake choices will be chocolate, peanut butter, pineapple and angel food, plus your drink. All proceeds will be used in maintenance of A.C. Landmarks properties: Depot, Railroad Park, Old Library, Moore School, Clark House and Museum.

The Appleton City Middle School and High School FBLA will be hosting the annual FBLA Pink Nights Community Service Project. The first night will be at the Volleyball game this Thursday evening, October 14 The Football pink night will be October 22, and the Basketball pink night will be December 10 There will be games, prizes, and a 50/50 drawing. All proceeds will go to help cancer patients within our community. There will also be t-shirts available to order. The theme this year is “Bulldog Strong”. Come out and support them in this fight against cancer.

The AC FFA Chapter will hold their annual Food for America demonstrations 8:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. Friday, October 15 in the high school gravel parking lot. Any community members interested in learning about agriculture are welcome to walk through and hopefully learn new things about the world of agriculture. They will have various demonstrations from Agricultural Organizations as well as working stations put on by FFA members

Montrose Athletic Booster Club's Kickin’ Chicken Fundraiser Dinner will be Sunday, October 17 from 11:00-2:00 (or until sold out) at Montrose High School. Curbside to go service ONLY. $12 per plate includes Perryman's fried chicken (choice of white or dark meat), cheesy mashed potatoes, green beans, roll, and chocolate sheet cake. Sorry NO Special Orders and NO children’s menu. Proceeds benefit all athletic teams at MHS.

The Appleton City Manor and Countryside Estates will have a lemonade stand and will be grilling hamburgers and hot dogs for area residents on October 22, 2021 from 10:30 to 12:30 or until supplies last. This will be a drive thru only. They ask you do not get out of your car. Staff will bring your order to you. Sacks will contain sandwich of choice, potato chips and condiments for sandwiches.

Ellett Memorial Hospital Foundation is having a Kickin’ Chicken dinner on Sunday, October 24 from 11:00 to sell-out. Curbside pickup only at the front entrance. $12 for fried chicken (white or dark), mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, roll and dessert. (No kid meals or special meals available.)

Ellett Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is sponsoring a Collective Goods Book Fair 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Thursday, October 28 in the Outpatient hallway. There will be wide selection of books, gifts and useful gadgets for all ages. It is open to everyone! Get an early start on your Christmas.

A Haunted Walk will be held 5:00 p.m. (registration at 4:30) October 30. It will begin and end at Appleton City Forrest Park and circles through the cemetery. Participants may wear costumes but it is not required. Be prepared to meet mysterious guests along the way. Registration forms are available to be picked up at Brown Chiropractic, Will's LP Gas, Seider One Stop, or with Lori Bartz (660) 476-2610. Montrose VFW Post #8820 will host a street dance and auction 8:30 p.m. October 29 at the old VFW lot. Music will be provided by Sparrow Foot. Costumes are welcome. Cooler fees will be $5.00 - $10.00. An auction will take place during the first break. Don’t forget to bring your lawn chairs. Popcorn by Mama Kettle Corn and Paw’s Piggy Pops will be available.

First Baptist Church of Appleton City and AC FFA have paired up this year to make an impact in the local community by campaigning for canned food and other non-perishable food items to stay local and be donated to West Central’s food pantry, in AC. Representatives from both FBC and AC FFA will be out the afternoon of Monday, October 18 to distribute empty grocery sacks with a note attached on how to fill the sack and when and where to leave it for pickup. Look for those empty sacks on your front porches and doorsteps. On Wednesday, October 20, First Baptist Church Team KIDS attendees (children ages kindergarten through 5th grade) will pick up bags on the north side of the city, while AC FFA will pick up bags on the south side of the city. If you live outside city limits and would like to contribute to the food drive to help offset hunger in families in St. Clair County, please don't hesitate to drop off at Appleton City High School/Ag. Building or at First Baptist Church (leave on east side door).
