Update: Police searching for red truck after hit and run with Amish buggy in Cedar County

OK Facebook. Saturday, Oct 16th about 7pm on 97 HWY. Someone in what appears to be a Red GMC 1500 by the parts left at the scene of the crime. They were involved in a hit and run. 

They hit an Amish buggy. The man is broken and bruised. The young lady who is pregnant has a head injury and is sedated in intensive care. We need to help find this person.

Obituary - Ronald Darrell Crain

Funeral services for Ronald Crain of Rich Hill, Missouri will be 10 a.m. Monday, October 18, 2021 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri. There is no visitation. Ronald Darrell Crain, age 85 of Rich Hill, Missouri died Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at Sunrise Senior Living in Leawood, Kansas. He was born July 4, 1936 to Darrell and Elisabeth Bisterfeldt Crain in Chicago, Illinois.

Ronald is survived by his wife, Letha Crain of Rich Hill, Missouri; three daughters, D'Lesia Chambers and fiance' Steve Rippe of Ozark, Missouri, Debra Hall and husband Morris of Rich Hill, Missouri and Jacqueline Crain-Smith and husband Paul of Shawnee, Kansas; one sister, Becky Robb of Rich Hill, Missouri; brother-in-law Stan Robb of Rich Hill, Missouri; two grandchildren, Jessica Lynn Skinner and Jennifer Anne Roth; four great-grandchildren, Jameson, Savannah, Henry and Samuel; and also nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Sandra Robb.

Obituary - Michael Lee Huey

Michael Lee Huey, 78, of Clinton, Missouri passed away Wednesday evening, October 13, 2021 at the Truman Lake Manor in Lowry City, Mo. He was born March 3, 1943 in Lansing, Kansas the son of Omar Huey and Edna (Kessner) Huey. He married Sandra Lenor Griffin on December 21, 1963 in Leavenworth, Ks. She survives of the home.
Michael was employed as a lead pressman with Hallmark Cards for almost 25 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Clinton. He enjoyed fishing, hunting camping and building projects. He loved all critters, especially his pets, even the neighbor's pets. In addition to his wife, surviving are two sons, Michael Huey (Bobbie), Jasper, Mo., and Mark Huey (Wendy), Clinton, Mo.; one daughter, Christine “Sis” Johnson (Lance), Clinton, Mo.; six grandchildren, Bryan C. Lutgen (Krystal), Winchester, Ks., Justin M. Lutgen (Melissa), Leavenworth, Ks., Chelsey L. Funk (Aaron), Nevada, Mo., Clay Huey and Makenzee Wilson, Udall, Ks., Jordan Huey, Clinton, Mo. And Devin Huey, Clinton, Mo.; six grandchildren, Bryce, Claire, Wyatt, Wrenlee, Hunter and Emily; one niece, Robin Henshaw (Donn Hess), Kansas City, Mo.; and one great-nephew, Owen Hess, Kansas City, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Betty Huey and Gloria Henshaw; and one brother-in-law, Robert Henshaw. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 23, 2021 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Clinton, Mo., under the direction of the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., just prior to the memorial service. Interment will be in the Englewood Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to Golden Valley Hospice or Trinity Lutheran Church. These donations may be left in care of the funeral home. Obituary - Kelly Marie Otter

Kelly Marie Otter, 43, Nevada, passed away Friday, October 15, 2021 at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a period of illness. Kelly was born October 22, 1977 in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of William Allen Wright and Rachael Lee Redwine. She grew up in Cygne, KS where she graduated from high school. She married Christopher E. Otter on March 7, 1998. She was a homemaker who enjoyed arts and crafts. 

Kelly was preceded in death by her husband, Christopher and her parents and is survived by a daughter Haley Panczyszyn, Nevada,; a son Christopher Otter; grandchildren, Athena Ann Panczyszyn and Raelynn Jean Otter; sister, Dusty Wright, Topeka, KS; several nieces and nephews. 

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 18, 2021 in the Ferry Funeral Home Chapel with Ronnie Smith officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes in care of Ferry Funeral Home.


Obituary - Verda Bernice Day

Verda Bernice Day, age 96, died peacefully on October 15, 2021 at Northridge Village in Ames, Iowa. Verda was born on April 18, 1925, in Cass County, Missouri, the daughter of Theron A. Peterson and Grace V. (Kircher) Peterson.

Verda was raised on a dairy farm near East Lynne, and attended Lone Elm Elementary School through eighth grade, and Harrisonville High School, where she enjoyed playing basketball for the highly successful team. She met her husband-to-be, William M. (Bill) Day, at the University of Missouri during her freshman year there, and they were married September 2, 1943 in Columbia.

The Days lived in Advance and Washington, Missouri for several years where Bill taught Vocational Agriculture. From there they moved to a farm outside Harrisonville, and then to a home in Harrisonville, where they lived for 65 years. During that time Bill taught school and later sold Farm Bureau Life Insurance, while Verda raised their four sons. In 1963 Verda was appointed to the position of City Clerk of Harrisonville, serving in that position for 24 years. She was actively involved with professional organizations throughout her career, serving as President of the Missouri City Clerk and Finance Office Association in the early 1980s. She was a long-time member of the Progressive Priscillas Extension/Homemakers Club and the Harrisonville Lions Club. Verda was an active member of the Harrisonville United Methodist Church, having sung in the choir, participated in United Methodist Women, and “The Bible Class” Sunday School class.

Verda was recognized for her service to the community by being named Harrisonville Citizen of the Year in 1991. She was inducted into the Harrisonville High School Wall of Fame in 2008. Verda loved the Lord with all her heart, and that love was reflected in the way she lived.

Verda is survived by sons Russell (Ann) Day of Cumming, GA; David (Karen) Day of Kansas City, MO; Steven (Vicki) Day of Shawnee, KS; and Alvin (Dixie) Day of Ames, IA; eight grandchildren (Scott, Chris, Mike, Mary, Travis, Jon, Kelly, and Jamie); and 19 great-grandchildren; and many friends. Her husband Bill and her brother John David (J.D.) Peterson, and one grandchild, Lori Day, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be held at the Dickey Funeral home in Harrisonville on Tuesday, October 19, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services will be at the Harrisonville United Methodist Church on Wednesday, October 20, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Orient Cemetery in Harrisonville following the funeral. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or to the Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation.



Amish buggy struck in hit and run accident in Cedar County

On October 16th around 8:15 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cedar County along with Cedar County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a hit and run accident involving a Amish buggy and a vehicle that fled the scene.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred on MO 97 about 7 miles north of Jerico Springs, Missouri when a Amish buggy driven by 23 year old Johnny C. Schwartz of El Dorado Springs, Missouri was stuck from behind by a unknown vehicle who fled the scene of the accident.

A passenger in the buggy 18 year old Elizabeth A. Schwartz of El Dorado Springs, was airlifted to Mercy Hospital in Springfield in serious condition.

There is no description of the vehicle that fled the scene at this time.
