Arrests made in El Dorado Springs murder

On September 17, 2021, officers responded to 215 West Hightower concerning a check the well being. Upon arrival officers located Johnnie D. Billings, 56, of El Dorado Springs, deceased inside the home.The investigation revealed the theft of a black 2006 Harley-Davidson Sportster motorcycle. Investigators of the Missouri State Highway Patrol are assisting in the investigation.

On September 18, 2021, officers recovered the motorcycle in rural El Dorado Springs with the assistance of concerned citizens. On October 14, investigators arrested Andrew Vessey for the probable cause of Murder 2nd Degree. He was transported to the Cedar County Jail. Officers completed probable cause statements concerning this investigation.

On October 15, 2021, officers received Cedar County Warrants for Alexander J. Masters, 22, and Andrew G. Vessey, 34, of El Dorado Springs, charging them with Murder 2nd Degree, Burglary 1st Degree, and Armed Criminal Action with a $500,000.00 bond. Masters and Vessey are being held at the Cedar County Jail pending bond and court appearances.

Adrian Optimist Club is pleased to honor Students of the Month from the Miami, Ballard, and Adrian schools

The Adrian Optimist Club is pleased to honor Students of the Month from the Miami, Ballard, and Adrian schools. Criteria for this honor center on outstanding academic and civic achievement and school spirit. Staff at each of the schools make the selection, and their decision is based on expansion of these criteria. Selection is based on the criteria, but a student stepping up to a particular task will come to play in it. Each student is honored with a certificate of recognition from the Adrian Optimist Club and $20.00 in Adrian Chamber of Commerce “Chamber Bucks”

The Ballard Student of the Month for September is seventh grader Olivia Porter, the daughter of Jacque and Gary Hill and Jesse Porter. At school, Olivia enjoys being a part of the junior high volleyball team. Olivia’s outside activities are participating in the local 4H, riding in the Semi, working her cattle, and swimming at her grandma’s. Olivia’s plan for the future is to go to college at UCM to play volleyball.

The Ballard staff has said, “I have had the opportunity to see Olivia work and encourage her fellow classmates. The younger students look up to her for guidance and acceptance. She is a hard worker who always has a smile and shows kindness every day.” Olivia’s inspirational quote is, “Good job, great try, you are doing a good job.”




















The Adrian Student of the Month is Christian Evans a Senior. Christian is the son of Anthony and Stacey Evans. In school he is in Football, Basketball, NHS, FBLA, and is President of Student Council.

Outside of school Christian is an artist, drone pilot, and amateur investor. Christian states, “Thank you to all who have supported me and gotten me to where I am today.” Christian plans to obtain a degree in engineering or architecture.




The Miami Student of the Month is Ethan West a Senior. Ethan is the son of Grant West. In school he works hard at Baseball. Outside of school he enjoys golf and his guitar. Ethan states, “Being a senior, I wish I could of appreciated my time here a little more and I encourage others below me to do so. “ Ethan plans to become a union carpenter. Angie Wiley of Miami staff states, “Ethan is kind to his peers and respectful to staff. He’s always willing to pitch in and help when something needs to be done. He always has a smile and a great sense of humor. If you’ve never had a chance to come watch him pitch a Eagles baseball game, you are missing out.”


Fall temps in the 70's

Groovy temperatures today with highs in the 70s. It'll be a bit breezy with wind gusting around 20-25 MPH.

Missing ring in Butler



Update: Police searching for red truck after hit and run with Amish buggy in Cedar County

OK Facebook. Saturday, Oct 16th about 7pm on 97 HWY. Someone in what appears to be a Red GMC 1500 by the parts left at the scene of the crime. They were involved in a hit and run. 

They hit an Amish buggy. The man is broken and bruised. The young lady who is pregnant has a head injury and is sedated in intensive care. We need to help find this person.

Obituary - Ronald Darrell Crain

Funeral services for Ronald Crain of Rich Hill, Missouri will be 10 a.m. Monday, October 18, 2021 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri. There is no visitation. Ronald Darrell Crain, age 85 of Rich Hill, Missouri died Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at Sunrise Senior Living in Leawood, Kansas. He was born July 4, 1936 to Darrell and Elisabeth Bisterfeldt Crain in Chicago, Illinois.

Ronald is survived by his wife, Letha Crain of Rich Hill, Missouri; three daughters, D'Lesia Chambers and fiance' Steve Rippe of Ozark, Missouri, Debra Hall and husband Morris of Rich Hill, Missouri and Jacqueline Crain-Smith and husband Paul of Shawnee, Kansas; one sister, Becky Robb of Rich Hill, Missouri; brother-in-law Stan Robb of Rich Hill, Missouri; two grandchildren, Jessica Lynn Skinner and Jennifer Anne Roth; four great-grandchildren, Jameson, Savannah, Henry and Samuel; and also nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Sandra Robb.
