Grappler training a success in Butler

This morning the Bates County Sheriff's Office along with technicians of "The Grappler" preformed some test training on Rice Road in Butler.

A little how the Grappler works the police vehicle drives up behind the suspect in a police chase, needing only 7 inches of ground clearance at the back of the vehicle, after which the contraption can ride down the bodywork to a lower clearance at the wheelhouse.

A 5-mph closing speed is enough to engage the Grappler on a tire, then the net typically tangles and ties itself to the rear axle, stopping the wheel and often rendering the vehicle undrivable.

Sheriff Anderson spoke to us about the positive affects of this device and how it helps to stop pursuits and save innocent lives. The Bates County Sheriff's Office currently has 7 vehicles equipped with this Grappler product.

We appreciate the Sheriff's Office inviting us to this training!

He had very strong men that he grew up around. That helped him to understand hard work and what it took to succeed in whatever he was doing. This is where he probably got his determination and drive to be a successful business man, and to be successful in the race horse busi-ness. During his childhood growing up his mom especially influenced his strong values, where the men around him in-stilled hard work, and determination, and an extensive vocabulary which sent Carol to the principal on his very first day of school.

Carol was well known in the American Quarter Horse Association, he had a love for horses. He grew up having and being around horses. Carol was known as a straight forward, honest, hardworking man. Posse Invitational Rodeo Packs Ferguson Arena

FUN FOR THE KIDS as they jumped in the muddy arena and worked to win a prize by
pulling a string off a calf's tail at the Posse Invitational Rodeo Saturday evening

“We’re amazed at the turnout” declared Sheriff Chad Anderson just after the Bates County Sheriff’s Posse Invitation Rodeo started on Saturday evening “we actually did very little advertising and word must have spread like wildfire”. And indeed it did as spectators lined both sides of Ferguson Arena located just south of the Adrian city park. The evening was under direction of Rodeo Gold Productions of Louisburg KS, and provided non stop entertainment including the usual back and forth chatter between announcer and clowns- but the highlight may have very well been Sheriff Anderson donning an elf costume and climbing into a padded ‘bull barrel’, making himself a target for a roughly 1,800 pound angry beast “I was a little nervous  but I’m a team player and wanted to put on a good show for our community. I think the whole thing was a huge success and the fact it was free and open to everyone was the best part.  Seeing all those kids’ smiles and the families getting out together made the day!” he said.

As the show ran into the late evening, it brought rodeo favorites such as barrel racing, bull, bareback and saddle bronc riding bringing contestants from as far away as Oklahoma that included some local winners as well. Here’s the breakdown: Bareback division- 1st place Bryce Eck of Redfield KS with 73 points and $816.00, 2nd place Tanner Rankin of Drexel MO with 67 points and $544.00; Saddle Broncs- a tie for 1st place Augusta Jones of Monroe City MO and John Allen of Auxvasse MO both with 74 points and $664.00 each; 2nd place went to Bryce Eck of Redfield KS with 71 points and $332.00; Barrel racing 1st place Summer Samples of Adrian MO winning $265.00, 2nd place Paige Orstad of Wayne OK winning $159.00 and 3rd place to Michelle Wilson of Arvonia KS taking home $106.00; Bull riding- 1st place Harrison Kalinka of Freeman MO 81.5 points and $1,015.00, 2nd place Garrion Hull of Abbyville KS 80 points and $609.00, 3rd place Justin Hineman of Freeman MO 74 points and $406.00.

Greg Mullinax, Captain of the Mounted Posse said due to the success of this event, another most certainly will be in the planning for next year. More information is available on Facebook, search Bates County Sheriff’s Posse.
