Obituary - Steven Loren Fox

Steven Loren Fox, 60, of Nevada, MO passed away on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital East in Lee’s Summit, MO. Steven was born on August 3, 1961 in Nevada to Loren E. Fox and Maxine Bullock. He married Sherrie Lynn Heathman on July 13, 1985 at Pine Street Baptist Church in Nevada and she survives of the home.

Steven was raised in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School in 1979. He worked at Fram Corporation in Nevada for 21 years until their closing. He also worked for a time at Harleman Global in El Dorado Springs, and at Tamko in Webb City. Steve was currently working at Precision AERO in Nevada. Steven loved hunting and fishing at Bennett Springs, MO, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and working at the church.

In addition to his wife Sherrie, survivors include his children, Melissa Carter and her husband Louis, Marshfield, MO, Megan Fox, Nevada, and Layton Fox, Nevada; four grandchildren, Brynn River Fox-Carter, Serenity Carter, Jacob Carter and Isabella Carter; two brothers, Charles LuPardus and his wife Stacy, Independence, KS and John Fox and his wife Brettin, Tulsa, OK; two sisters, Michelle Michaels and her husband Joe, Washington, and Joy Gilzow and her husband Tim, Jefferson City, MO; numerous nieces and nephews; and his father and mother-in-law, Jerry and Judy Heathman, Nevada. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Cathy Fox; and a brother, Ricky Fox.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Obituary - Timothy Ross

Timothy Ross 58, of Nevada, Missouri passed away Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at his home in Nevada. A visitation will be held 11:00 am to 12:00 pm Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler (660-679-0009). Funeral services will follow at 12:00 pm Thursday, also at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Missouri.

Timothy Eugene Ross was born February 20, 1963 in Leavenworth, Kansas to James Elwood Ross and Edna Lucile Amos. He grew up in Butler, Missouri and graduated from Butler High School in 1981. Following graduation, he served in the Army National Guard for six years in Pleasanton, Kansas. He worked for 20 plus years at Thorco in Butler and 17 years for Cliff’s Carpet Cleaning. Timothy was a hard worker and took very good care of his family over the years. He enjoyed time with his children assembling model cars and playing darts. Later in life he loved to spend time with his grandchildren. Timothy loved to travel, music of all kinds, singing karaoke, the KC Chiefs, and scratcher tickets. He will be forever remembered as an amazing friend that was always there to help, although he was stubborn and hard-headed, you always knew you could count on him.

Timothy was preceded in death by his father, son Anthony Scott Ross, and his father-in-law Richard Garren, Sr. He is survived by his children, Timothy Ross, Kristina Ratliff both of Nevada, MO., and son Dustin Ross (Michelle Jennings) of Rich Hill, MO. Grandchildren, Brianna, Anthony, Destiny, Abigail, Aubrianna, Jayden, Taylor, Wyatt, Cerenity, Remington, and Oaklynn. He also leaves behind his Mother Edna Amos of Nevada, MO., and brothers Keven and Keith Ross.

Notice from the Vernon County Sheriff's Office

During this holiday weekend the Vernon County Sheriff's Office will once again be performing sex-offender compliance and safety checks. Letters were mailed out Thursday to all sex-offenders in the county reminding them of the State requirements.

Uniform and undercover deputies will also be out in various towns throughout Vernon County during the holiday weekend to help monitor sex-offender compliance, and traffic safety for the children. Be safe and have a happy Halloween!

Obituary - Paula Shaffer

Funeral services for Paula Shaffer of Butler, Missouri will be 11 a.m. Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler. Paula Lea Shaffer, age 84 of Butler, Missouri died Thursday, October 28, 2021 in Butler. She was born October 4, 1937 to Paul Leaford and Dorothy Beryl Rushing Savage in Paola, Kansas.

Paula is survived by two sons, Michael Shaffer and wife Jana of Peculiar, Missouri and Gerald Shaffer and wife Kim of Adrian, Missouri; three daughters, Brenda Boyer and partner Ruben Batrez Jr. of Kansas City, Missouri, Sandra Trumbore of Joplin, Missouri and Dorothy Carter and husband Rob of Butler, Missouri; one sister, Karen Keen of Overland Park, Kansas; 16 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Galeand.



From Bates County Coroner Greg Mullinax

This morning, 10/29/21 at approximately 0754 I was called to a residence in the 500 block of N. Clark St. in Adrian following a fire involving the residence.

A deceased male was located inside the structure and appears to have been the only occupant of the home. Initial investigation reveals no sign of foul play.

The Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office remains on-scene investigating the cause of the fire. The deceased male was transported to the Bates County Coroner's Office.

At this time I will withhold identifying information pending contact with family. I will provide more information as I'm able.

I greatly appreciate the help of Adrian Fire, Butler Fire, and Adrian Police Department with this morning's incident.

Fatal house fire in Adrian

Shortly after 7:00 a.m. this morning the Adrian Fire Department along with mutual aide of the Butler Fire Department and BCSO responded to a mobile home fire at 5th and Clark in Adrian.

One person is said to have died in this fire and the Missouri State Fire Marshall is on scene doing a investigation.
