Daylight Saving Time ends this Sunday, November 7th

Daylight Saving Time ends this Sunday, November 7th. Clocks will need to be set back one hour at 2am on Sunday. It is also a good time to check/replace the batteries in your NOAA weather radio and smoke detectors

Congratulations to the recent graduates of the Henry County Sheriff's Office Citizen Academy

For the past 8 weeks the Henry County Sheriff's Office has been teaching a Citizens Academy for area residents. A total of 10 individuals participated on Tuesday nights for 3 1/2 hours each night learning about the duties and responsibilities of a law enforcement officer.

Participants learned about and participated in simulated traffic stops, emergency vehicle operations, use of force, firearms, taser, OC spray, restraints, crime scene process and investigation, bailiffs, courts, jail operations, DWI investigations including field sobriety, and shooting techniques.

The participants ended on day 8 (November 2, 2021) with a trip to Golden Valley Shooting range where they were able to shoot a variety of weapons and then returned to the Sheriff's Office to shoot on the MILO shooting simulator.

Our thanks to the participants for their time commitment and all the staff at the Sheriff's Office and other community members that helped make the Citizens Academy a huge success

Follow us on Facebook for our next Academy coming in 2022.

Obituary - Alexa Janelle Cowan

Alexa Janelle Cowan, age 47, of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083. A celebration of Alexa’s life will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Alexa was born in Kansas City, Missouri on May 25, 1974 to Edward William Smith and Linda Glee (Place) Smith. She graduated Truman High School in 1992 and went on to devote her life to being a mother. In life, she was blessed with two daughters, Autumn Brooke and Aubrie Elizabeth. Being their mother was Alexa’s passion in life; to know her meant you knew her daughters. She took pride in the girls’ accomplishments and was extremely supportive of them. Alexa was joined in marriage with her husband, Curtis, on December 1, 2012 in Grain Valley, Missouri. Their love was obvious to all.

Alexa had a deep passion for reading. She was involved in several online groups where she was tasked with reading and reviewing upcoming books. She poured a great deal of work into her small library, decorating the shelves with rows of collected trinkets, novelty items, and more than a hundred books. Alexa was also passionate about music, especially singing. It was common to hear her voice floating through the house while she tended to her plants or cooked for her family. She participated in online communities where she was able to showcase her voice and explore her passion for singing.

One of Alexa’s favorite times of the year was fall; she loved the weather but most importantly, the beautiful colors the season brings. Every room would be full of pumpkins, leaves, and fall decor: even the toilet seat covers in the bathroom. During Christmas, her home was adorned in lights, ornaments, candy canes, Santas, miniature reindeer, and of course, a beautiful, sparkling tree. She loved creating that Christmas spirit for her family and friends.

Alexa was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Betty Jean and Garland Place; and paternal grandparents, Jewell and Maxie Smith.

She is survived by her loving husband, Curtis Lee Cowan; two daughters, Autumn and Aubrie Cole; sister, Allison Smith Constable; and two nieces, Breana and Blaire Constable.

In honor of offering life to others, Alexa Cowan was given a medallion for the donation of her two kidneys. Through her sacrifice, others may have a second chance at life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Literacy KC, Changing Lives Beyond Words online at www.literacykc.org

Way to go James!

Nevada Regional Medical Center's Shining Star for November is James Spears, the Director of our NRMC Lab.

James has been a key player in maintaining our lab testing supplies through COVID-19 and managing supply chain delays.

He always stays on top of issues and follows through to ensure resolution. James has also managed his department well while waiting for replacement equipment to arrive.

We are all grateful that James has helped the hospital in many ways without complaint, despite all the challenges that he and his department have faced.

James is a pleasure to work with and we would not have survived as well throughout the past 18 months without his expertise and assistance.

Harrisonville Police Department shop with a cop event!

Not this year either Grinch. We are having SHOP with a COP!

To say the least 2021 has been another challenging year for many!! To try and get back to normal, or maybe the new normal, we will be hosting our 2021 Shop with a Cop (SWAC) program on December 18th.

Our goal again this year will be to assist 200 kids with $100 gift card, so we have a lot of money to raise in a short period of time. The important part of SWAC each year is that the children get a Christmas. The last few years this has been more challenging than ever.

The list of children participating in the 2021 Shop-with-a-Cop program has been provided to us. We will begin contacting the children’s parents as each child becomes funded. We will begin contacting parents in early December. Currently we do not have the funds for all 200 children. Please do not contact the Police Department to try and add children to the list. The list is already established.

If you are interested in donating to the Harrisonville SWAC event, please contact the department. We accept cash or checks made out to SWAC. Help us make Christmas wonderful for these great kids...
